Title: spam
Description: emails....

The_lone_dragon - April 11, 2009 12:56 AM (GMT)
I've received three emails from people from this site talking about a diet pill.

I have not been in contact with the people for a very long time over email so i think they had me on their email list and a virus is using said list to email people.

I called one and he had no idea about it. so yeah if anyone is getting emails about diet pills from me I'm really sorry and ill try to fix it on my end.

i don't like giving out my email account but my names rob ****** so if you get an email your know its me :P

also now getting spam instant messages on windows live messenger.

Don't give out full names in public, man. Seriously.

Lol, my Gmail account (primary anyways) gets probably 150-300 spam e-mails a day. V1agr4, C1al15, R0lex, Pharmacy, porn, you name it. Thankfully, Gmail is really damn good about filtering it all into my spam folder.

Incidentally, sometimes I love going through spam e-mail. It's interesting to see how people get around spam filters, or at least try to. I've seen everything from lists of interesting words, to things that look like mad-libs filled in by robots, to segments of famous quotes probably pulled from quote-pages online, and even full paragraphs and excerpts from novels. Sometimes it's even some pretty cool stuff.

Of course sometimes clicking on some e-mails sends a signal to the server by way of loading an image or something, which triggers them recognizing my e-mail as valid and sending more spam, but meh. It's filtered, again, and it's all good. =D

I know the feeling. I mean, in the course of an hour on msn I got a message from absolutely everyone, minus the people from the forum I run oddly enough, on my online list advertising diet pills. Now I never click anything anyone sends me unless its a youtube link or something of the sort, unless they've been talking about something for a few minutes with me and then send me a link they say is related, so I haven't gotten hit by it, but still. This kind of thing is so obvious that its sometimes hard for me to believe that anyone would actually click on these links...

So you know, congratulations to the vast majority of my friends for proving to me once again that the world is full of idiots...

Got a few messages from random people on my Windows Live account; knew better and didn't click on the links. Just send those people a message and let them know they need to get their virus scanner updated and go looking for where the little bastard's hiding.

I was really tired one day after school, and on my way home from the mall, decided to take up a radio ad on its offer of a free XBox 360 Elite. The site was radiofreexbox.com (don't go there unless you've got an email address you don't mind giving tons of spam to, and a filtered mailing address you can use), and after seven pages of filling out surveys and feeling no closer to my prized 360 Elite, I stopped pursuit. Unfortunately, it was too late, and by the time I next checked my email, I had over 1,000 spam messages there.

I do think that if I'd continued, I would've gotten my free Xbox, because with the number of messages I received, I have no doubt that the site made bank off of signing me up for those offers. Had I completed enough of the offers (probably enough for them to get more than double the amount required to buy an XBox 360 Elite), they probably would've seen fit to reward the money I earned them.

But those random dictionary vomit emails also frequent my other email account. Sometimes they're entertaining, but usually they're just annoying.

While I may be going off on a slight tangent by suggesting this website, I'm going to suggest it anyway. :P There's this interesting and free service that lets you give out e-mail addresses that don't belong to any one person and allows you to check on the e-mail account that you made up on the spot. It also automatically disallows resending from that address (I think).

Okay, horrible explanation, but... Like. Okay. So. Errrr... I'll give it in the form of a list, how 'bout that?

Step 1: Give away *@dodgit.com as your e-mail address
Step 2: Go here: http://dodgit.com/ and check on that e-mail address
Step 3: Watch a total lack of spam in your inbox.

But, like I said, this e-mail address you give out is a totally public address that (I think) gets wiped once a day. It's really not for extended use...

Hopefully this doesn't constitute advertisement (and if it does, at least it isn't shameless).

Anyway... Gmail's spam filter is awesome. I don't receive the kinds of spam that you guys receive, but what little bits of it that I do receive is all nicely sifted into the trash... GO GOOGLE!!!

Oh! I just remembered... One of my friends recently had his Gmail account hacked. Roughly the same events that happened to 'Rob' (real nammeeeee :P ) transpired...

That is, unless you're on friendly grounds and in person :P Sorry, I had to nitpick at the technicality.
