REGISTRATION STUFF

Name of Character in The World: Zeich

Name of the Real World player: Sigmund Mesa

Age (Real World Player): 17

Class: Wavemaster

Appearance: As per the results of winning a character contest, Zeich has a rather… unique appearance. Instead of the human characters that most implement, the Wavemaster chose a form that resembled a humanoid wolf. Gray fur with a white underbelly marks the player’s body, and though his hands are humanoid, tipped with claws, his feet are simple paws. Zeich’s outfit consists of a long-sleeved jacket whose sleeves hang down over the male’s torso, the sleeves severed at the elbows but held together with a pair of straps on either side of the fabric. The jacket is a light blue with a white stripe across the shoulder and down the outside of the arms, and a white border around the bottom. The jacket ends above the hips and is usually left open. A red t-shirt underneath provides a start contrast, a white circle in the middle of it marked with several symbols and a series of interchanging lines, almost like some sort of magic circle. A pair of fingerless white gloves covers his hands, and the backs of each are laden with some sort of metal like scale armor. A pair of belts wraps around the wolf-man’s waist, cinching together at the middle to form a perfect X. Long blue pants the same color as his shirt cover his legs, white lines running along the side seams and around the cuff of each leg. Sturdy black boots cover his feet, though the toes of each are removed to allow Zeich’s clawed feet to stick out. A pair of glasses frame his face, the lens in the right eye missing, and a long scar runs across the right eye.

Eye Color: Zeich’s golden-brown eyes are reminiscent of any natural wolf’s, the intelligent gleam in them unmistakable.

Height: Zeich stands approximately at 5’11”.

Hair Color: Dark black hair cover’s Zeich’s head, the strands framing his pointed ears and stopping about two inches short of the eyes in front. In back the hair hangs down to his neck.

Personality: Sigmund is a well-meaning young man with a cheerful spirit and a grin for most who approach him. He’s fiercely competitive and always strives to be the best in whatever he does. The boy is also a bit of a joker at times, though not terribly often.

A light snow fell across the streets, coating the small town with a dusting of simple, pure white. A few rays of sunlight that escaped their prison of black, the clouds giving way grudgingly to leave a brilliant sparkle across the ground. People strode through the streets, oblivious to the shimmering beauty around them, heads buried into their scarves or bowed beneath a hat to keep the snow out of their faces. Most moved silently towards their destinations, intent on getting out of the cold, though a few huddled groups spoke quietly, breaking the utter stillness that made up the chill winter morning. Any contact or inclinations towards another were simply formal, nothing more.

Sigmund sat atop the roof of the apartment he lived in with his father, staring at the people walking below. They looked like ants from the top of the five-story building, little black ants wandering around the city streets without a rhyme or reason, just going where they would. Smiling lightly to himself, the boy brushed the snow out of his light brown hair, shivering a bit as he pulled his heavy jacket around him a bit tighter. The cold wind still seemed to cut through the layer, though, and Sigmund shivered again, but he would not leave his post. Not after he had been waiting nearly a half hour in the cold snow, anyway.

Sigmund had received a letter earlier in the week from a gaming company called CC Corp, who had been hosting a character creation contest for their biggest game, The World. The contest had been to design a unique character for a player to use in The World, and the winner would actually have his character custom made and be allowed to use it in a free copy of The World that was included in the prize package. Naturally, Sigmund had entered, seeing the opportunity to get his hands on a copy of the game without wasting his minimal allowance. He worked for hours designing a character, going through a variety of sketches and descriptions before finally coming up with something completely out of the box. Where most created human characters, the boy had tried something different: creating a humanoid animal that could talk and act like any other human.

He experimented with several different species, trying to match them up with a class that would be most likely. The fox-like Twin Blade had been fun, as had the bull of a Heavy Axeman, but in the end, none of the pairings seemed right. Frowning, Sigmund had looked through the sketches until he had found a wolf he had been planning on using for a Blademaster. The animal had looked good in his outfit, but the sword at his side didn’t seem right. The boy had experimented with a handful of different weapons until he drew the wolf wielding a long staff, holding it at ready. Something had just clicked, and Sigmund decided that that would be his character for submission: a wolf-like Wavemaster. Finishing up the description and the form required for the contest, Sigmund had sent the whole package in.

Two weeks later, the results had been announced on CC Corp’s main page, and Sigmund’s eyes had widened considerably as he realized that the winner displayed was his own sketch! Letting out a whoop of delight, the boy had scanned through his emails until he found the one from the company, congratulating him on his win and promising a package in the mail with his game set up. It would arrive within the week.

Sigmund had waited patiently for the last four days since he had received the email, sitting on the roof of his apartment and watching for the mail. Every time the postman arrived, the boy would hurry downstairs to the first floor and check to see if the mail room had gotten anything for him. The last four days he had been disappointed, and had resumed his vigil over the apartment roof the next day. But today was different, Sigmund could feel it; he had a sense of a nervous energy filling him, and he paced the rooftop, waiting for the postman to arrive. The guy would be arriving any minu-

There he was!

Sigmund hurried down the stairs as soon as he saw the uniformed postman starting into the apartment building. Racing down the flights of stairs, the boy arrived just a minute after the postman had finished dropping everything off, hurrying over to the man in charge of the mail room. The employee chuckled as he held out medium-sized box for Sigmund, letting the boy take it and hurry back up towards his apartment on the sixth floor. Sigmund was so excited that he almost missed the door to his room, ripping open the package and removing the small disc that held his copy of the game.

Along with The World was a copy of the user’s manual and another small disc that said “character information” across it in bold print. A smaller box inside included a VR headset. Sigmund could only assume that it was his custom character for The World. He quickly downloaded the game onto his laptop, following the instructions to create his account. When he reached a character creation screen, he hesitated, wondering what he should do. Fortunately, a small window popped up that said “Please insert character information disc now,” saving him the trouble of floundering around awkwardly. Removing the installation disc for The World, Sigmund inserted the other disc included with the package and watched his custom character load up. It was just as he had described, down to the last detail! The character was perfect, and the boy felt himself shaking with excitement. Quickly, he typed in his account after successfully “creating” his character and watched as he entered the World, slipping the headset on as he went.

He had arrived.
