Title: Wacky News
Description: stranger than fiction.

Stane - November 19, 2008 03:10 AM (GMT)
I've been thinking about making this thread a lot lately and figured, why the heck not? Basically, post up crazy or interesting news that you'd like to discuss/share with a link. It would be great if the event happened or was posted THAT DAY, but I sure won't stop you otherwise haha.

I'll start us off with:

Urine Passes Nasa Taste Test

Reminds me of Dune (Frank Herbert). It's too bad the ISS is going away in a couple years. My friend said that it is the most expensive man-made object ever built - I suppose that would depend on your interpretation of "expensive." *thinks about the pyramids and other things made without a US dollar amount.* Cool stuff though. I bet it would be cool to see the earth out your window every day - from space.

It's not the space station that's retiring. o.0 They wouldn't be adding all this fancy new stuff to it if that's the case. It's the current fleet of space shuttles that NASA is retiring. And about time. The ones we have now, if I'm remembering correctly, were built in the 70's.

Stane - November 20, 2008 05:08 PM (GMT)
Ahhhhh, you're right! We'll that's good news. What's going to be replacing the shuttle?

EDIT: lol, Spider missing after trip to space station

Interesting experiment though :o. I wonder what the webs look like if they do make them...

So yeah, Barack can't use technology now that he's (about to be) president, even though that was something that helped him win the presidency...

Stane - November 20, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
Wow, I never knew that about being president. As if there weren't enough things that would suck about that job haha.

I mean, it's true "anything can be hacked" but there are PLENTY (if not ALL) things in the government that are carefully guarded that transmit in cyberspace...I would know. Seems like they could just put his personal email under the net of government emails.....eh. I guess they'd have to let his friends/family into that net so they could send him email. Most of which are easily hackable and therefore, the net is compromised. Oh well, sorry Barak haha. Sucks to be you....for a lot of reasons >_>;.

Four day interval means no double-posting whore, ya? >_>

Well, I thought this was worth it.

They went open source recently (a few days ago)! I didn't even know this project existed. While I frown on the fact that there isn't a linux version (they DO happen to be fairly new to this whole 'open source' thing -.-), the idea of a free version of a decent GTA remix - extra multiplayer on that burger please - is alllmost enough to get me to boot in Vista and check it out. We'll see how bored I am tomorrow. Ooh. I bet I'll be bored enough this week for thanksgiving break :D.

Check it out, let me know ö.

First off, Snake is the best SSBB character XP Go cardboard box-kill!

Secondly, hug a panda? Is that kid mental? Frickin' Asians must be sticking too much of their face in front of a computer screen or something. Fried his brain. It's a bear! BEAR! <.<

Billionth mouse o.O That's quite a bit considering the population of the earth, people that don't have computers and people that buy mice from other producers.

The number of deaths in two states linked to a bacteria that has been found in a Mexican-style cheese reached 42 today, and officials around the nation investigated whether other deaths had been caused by the tainted product.

A package of the suspect cheese was found in the refrigerator of an 83-year-old woman who died early today in Fort Worth.

In Houston, city health department officials blamed contaminated cheese for a stillbirth last month.

A 28-year-old Mexican-American woman delivered a stillborn infant on May 24 after complaining of a stiff neck and having a 102-degree fever. The woman, whose name was not released, tested positive for listeriosis bacteria, officials said.

The woman was reported to have frequently consumed cheese products made by Jalisco Mexican Products Inc., whose plant outside Los Angeles has been identified as the source of the tainted cheese.

Health officials have reported nonfatal cases of listeriosis in Oregon, Colorado and Arizona.

Most investigators outside California are still trying to determine if the deaths or illnesses stem from the Jalisco cheese.

So it comes down to an epic duel between Cheese and the number 42. Personally, I think I'll side with cheese...

You don't have to click on the link, but...Will Smith believes he can be president. I believe that's...wacky in the 'That's not possible' kind of way.

time to worry?

Nooo :<. I had a year's subscription to this maybe 5 years ago, not sure why I stopped. A sad day for laughers everywhere...

I wonder if the issues are going to be larger and/or the yearly subscription will be cheaper.

Basically, epoch time is used for time subtract instances. I use it to calculate how long I've worked in my timestamp program for work. Epoch time is awesome because it's an integer AND because it doesn't reset every night.

Anyway, thought the geeks among us might appreciate that. Time for dinner...and ice cream :o.

That second one seems very familiar to me. Here in Toronto, it is now illegal for stores to give out plastic bags. Every store must charge 5 cents for plastic bags and offer to sell reusable fabric bags as an alternative.

How can anyone resist Zorro, I'm surprised, well not completely surprised I wouldn't touch a shark named like that female with a ten foot pole.
