Title: Hall of Fame
Description: Just an idea that comes from Shenny

Shenmock - October 31, 2008 02:24 PM (GMT)
Anyways, um, since people said we needed suggestions, here's putting up a suggestion for the site. I know a Hall of Fame sounds all hard and cheesy for all of us to do, but I feel as if a lot of our writers aren't getting recognized enough for their work. People that are still level 1 have just as much, if not more writing skill than people level twenty and above. Even people that are a little higher than ten have great writing skill, and I'd like people to recognize that. I'm not asking for rare items or anything, just something as simple as saying 'Wow, that was a great quest!' or something like that...well, I dunno. o.o; Just something that tells them that they're doing great and that we're encouraging them to pursue writing further. An example...:

'Funniest Quest Award'
'Longest Quest Award'
'Best scripting Quest Award'

That sounds a little bland, but at least it's something that tells people that they should keep on writing. I'd find it fun to try and break records and all that, but...it just sounds like something that we can do to tell some people that they're great writers and that they're not getting recognized enough for it. If this sounds like a stupid and strange idea (I think it's kind of original, but that's me...), then tell me right there and then. @.@; I thought about the idea before I went to bed last night, but I think it'd be really nice to have some sort of Hall of Fame here at Divergence. Seriously! X3

Well, I think this is a great idea, the only problem I forsee is stuff like this can get very opinionated. What might be the best quest to some could be an alright quest to another person. But, I do agree that some little extra recognition would be a nice thing to the real heavy hitters.

Maybe instead of making this a thing that happens all the time, we could have a small event that has a number of "titles", such as the ones you specified. Like see who can get the "Funniest quest" award or the "Best overall" award or other things like that.

I'm... really not seeing the point to this, sorry =/

Like Savior already said, it sounds like something that's very opinionated. Who's going to choose which quest is what? The mods who grade the quest? The entire staff? The people? If it's the first, then the obvious fault is readily recognizable. The second seems like something that would take up too much time for our already busy staff. And the third? How would you pick the people to vote for it? Just a few people? The amount that decided they wanted to read the quest? Eh, even then, it could just become a popularity vote.

I mean, if you're a good writer, you should either already know it, or you're humble and don't say it but get nice junk after quests. Is there any reason that a "Best Whatever" is needed?

Finally, don't some graders add comments to the end of quests they liked already?

I'm inclined to agree with Savior and Slicer. I fear it'd become too opinionated. Nice idea though, Shenny.

Now that I think about it, the idea really sounds lame since everybody pointed out every error there was to it...thanks guys. <_<

BUT! Anyways, yeah, I was going to...well, yeah, have members try and vote that. XD Staff would be a little harder, since some of them would think it'd be a waste of time while others just wouldn't have the time to do it. @_@; I was hoping for a good idea or something, and it came, but...yeah...

It died. :zap:

...and you can close this topic unless other members have a say in things. XD

Edit: Oh yeah, and what Savvy said was pretty brilliant, with the event and all that, but...we have so many going on. Maybe, maybe not!

You're going about this all wrong, Shenny...

If we wanted a Hall of Fame type of institution on this site, it should be like the various sports Halls of Fame, where an individual is inducted into it, and then perhaps a quest of theirs would be highlighted as the reason this person is in the Hall of Fame (although obviously the person would have more than just one quest that demonstrated his or her excellence).

EDIT: I thought of something else, too. People in the Hall of Fame should be retired. Like Rayo.

Arcion - November 2, 2008 01:05 AM (GMT)
As for a retired Hall of Fame, I think we already have something like this going. I just don't think people realize it.

As I remember, when Dude left the site we had a bunch of people say we should retire the name (it was dude with a bunch of numbers after it if I remember correctly) and the mods back then said they'd retired the name so that it could never be used again, and I was given the impression that that was how it worked in sports as well.

I doubt many people remember it anymore, but that type of thing has already been functioning on the site. The people who made a difference here will always be remembered, wether there's an actual section or forum for it at all.

<.< You've done it now. I'm coming for you KoD.

As for the hall of fame idea...wouldn't the hall of fame just turn into some sort of popularity contest?

Shenmock - November 2, 2008 05:29 AM (GMT)
Umm...yeah, Rayo...it probably would. XD HOLY FREAKING CRAP, HE REPLIED TO ONE OF MY TOPICS. O.O O.O O.O O.O

And yes, maybe retired people would work, Fuzz. XD

RAYO!!! You do continue to watch over us. =3

Now, to make a productive comment so this isn't a spam post. =D

I think when it comes down to it, we all know that a hall of fame would either turn into a popularity contest, or worse, a really big dispute between members and admins over who gets in and who doesn't. I think we all personally know who are really good writers here on Divvy and I believe their own satisfaction of how well they do can be found in their levels, equipment earned, and the like.

EDIT: In unrelated news, I was attempting to post this message on here while using a special DS Homebrew Web Browser and when I attempted to log in, it segmentation faulted my DS. Yay! =D lol

As a note, there's nothing saying that we do things based on records and the like. For instance, it wouldn't be very difficult to deliberate titles such as "longest quest," "longest post," and the like. Obviously they'd have to be categorized, as some things are easier to write than others.

Also, it's very hard to argue that there are some quests in Divergence history that are benchmarks. Examples include Town of Cards, Shattered Souls, Trek Through Tenebrous Tower, and Frost Quaking Volcano Hunt...

Wild Rapture, aaaaaannnnnnnyyyyyyoooooooonnnnnnnnnneeeeee?!

Edit so as not to spam: Yeah, the whole point about a Hall of Fame type of thing dividing the site is really the only limiting factor we need to mention. Everyone should just love each other and that should be that. =P

Sorry, Shenny, no HoF idea for jooo!

Shenmock - November 3, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)
That was probably one of the longest and...most interesting quests I've been in so far, but I'm not saying much more.

Frost Quaking Volcano Hunt, Town of the Cards, and the main plot recruitment quest (I'm too lazy to spell that thing out :P) were some really good ones that I actually read a bit from, though most were just a wee bit long, so I didn't bother to read every line of 'em. Still... XD

There are so many quests out there that are so good!
