| Fwoosh! A young man lay there, holding on for dear life as the wind roared in his ears. His eyes were full of both worry and exhilaration as the colossi that he lay on dove down towards the water. He closed his eyes, gritting his teeth as it swooped up right in time, making his body fly upwards into the air before swinging back to the ground. He winced and looked up at the dark sky above, feeling as if he might vomit if the giant colossi did it again. It swooped off to the side, curving around a building, making him swerve off to the left a bit. His feet hung over the edge, making him cry out before his fingers started to slip. Wander watched as the monster veered off to the right, making his feet fall back over, only to tumble down over the other side. It was like he was holding onto an edge, only worse. He had managed to get on by doing a hard jump, but the air had been knocked out of him, leaving him panting while trying to grope around for what would be its weak point. The monster let out a screech and pulled up until they were flying high in the air, towards the dark clouds. The wind stung in his eyes and Wander’s hands started to slip. The monster, after seconds of flying up at a frighteningly quick speed, stopped and descended, letting its body spin and its wings furl and unfurl. His fingers slipped out of the furs grasp and Wander was up in the air, drifting about in space for a moment. He started to yell out and make grabs for the fur, only to find nothing but space. Then, something came…more fur. He grabbed hold of it and hung for dear life as the monster swooped about again, throwing him about wildly. He gritted his teeth, trying his best not to lose his grip. Come on…it’s for her, you can do this, he thought to himself, trying his best to keep calm. The monster spun about in the air, making his legs fall over and his eyes fall to the water oh-so far below him. Wander gulped and tightened his grip as the monster swung back over so his feet landed roughly on the side. Something, though, was under him at this point, something that glowed. He blinked at it, confused at how a colossus as big as this could have something like…wait; this was it! He remembered faintly how when he fought the others, he found that their weak spot was something glowing, a spot that was concealed until you ran over it. The monster swerved again, throwing him off to the side temporarily, but he kept hold, knowing that if he dropped down now, he would have no chance at what he had now. Wander wrenched the sword out of its sheath, only for it to be assaulted with the wind. He held it down and pressed his body to the ground, holding onto the sides as the monster did another spin, throwing him about and bruising his body in many ways. He ignored them, though, and when the light came into view once again, he pulled his sword up in the air, the point just a foot away from the mark. He held it, gritting his teeth as he did his best to put all of his energy into the one stab, the stab that would hopefully kill this beast. Yelling out, Wander stabbed the monster, making blood squirt out into his face, making him cough. The monster screeched and flew about, smashing one of its wings into the building that was next to them. The monster spun about, throwing the young man about once again, only a lot rougher. He was holding onto the monster with only one hand while his other was holding the sword so it didn’t fall out of his grasp. The monster wasn’t in that position for long, but it was enough that he had thought at points he was going to perish. The colossus pulled its wing up once again, still continuing to screech before it started to gain altitude again. The wind roared, baring its fangs and stinging him until his cheek felt numb. When he looked down at the small hole, he found that it was gone, leaving him with one thought: there were more. The young man looked up, his brown hair swirling about. He was at the tail, so that meant that it was somewhere around its…wings. Yes, that would definitely bring it down, but if he destroyed one wing, where would he be next? Spinning through the air, only to crash into one of the buildings and then die? That was most definitely not an option. Wander grabbed at the fur, waiting patiently as the monster swerved about before assuming a straight path, leaving him with seconds to get across its tail and to its wings. Picking himself up, Wander stumbled forward, stuffing his sword into its sheath while he started in a run. The monster swerved and when he jumped, he was thrown into the middle of its tail, knocking the breath out of him. Before he could fly back, though, he grabbed the fur and held on, refusing to give up as the monster continued to swerve about. Wander blinked and turned to the right, his head aching as he looked to the two wings that were just ten yards away, maybe more, maybe less. Once he felt good about how straight it was going, Wander picked himself up and threw himself over, grabbing at the fur for a bit of help while hoping to somehow get there without blowing himself off and then getting whacked by its tail. It swung its body weight to its left wing and flew off, making Wander trip and then, he fell. The young man screamed and grabbed at the side of its wing while his body was assaulted with the wind. He flew up and smashed his head on the wing while his hands twisted about, trying their best to stop the pain that ran in his head and grab onto the wing that would give him safety. Of course, the wing wasn’t exactly the safest place either. Wander grabbed at the small bits of fur that were there, but there wasn’t quite enough for him to feel safe. There was a patch of fur on the side of the wing, one that looked wide enough for the circlet, but he didn’t know. The wing went up and down, left and right, making his head spin. Letting his teeth grind against each other, the young man hurled forward, making a grab for the patch of fur. He did grab onto something: a small patch of fur that resided in the middle of the wing, but…he didn’t quite make it. Instead, his body was hit by the hard wing as the monster flew about, screeching at the sight of him on its wing. Go! a voice cried out in his head, and so he went, pushing forward and then grabbing onto the large patch of fur that was there. He tried to laugh, try to cry with victory, but he couldn’t. Pain ran through him and his eyes watered with the cold that came to him as the colossus flew. He was aware of the blue light that glowed below him, but at this point, he was trying to block it. It felt like it was blinding him. The monster flew about in a spectacular fashion, making Wander only more lightheaded. He was going to faint, going to go unconscious if he didn’t do something! He fumbled for the sword that lay in sheath, waiting for the chance to stab into the colossi’s flesh, but Wander was too tired, too overwhelmed to do anything. Taking a deep breath, Wander grabbed the sword’s hilt and pulled on it, letting the blade pull free of it. It glowed, making him close his eyes for a moment and then, he let it descend, using the last bit of strength he had left. Blood squirted and the monster screeched once again, throwing Wander off. He flew off to the side, his arms aching and his legs shaking under him. He cracked an eye open to find the wing coming at his body, and fast. He could see the glow from the other circlet, the glow that, if he stabbed, would end the monster’s life. For her! Then, Wander pulled the sword back, his hair swinging about and his eyes gleaming, and stabbed the mark, letting his sword sink through it. The point came out the other way and black blood sprayed out. The monster let out another screech and struggled to keep control of its flight, yet it didn’t. The young man was thrown off, his body descending towards the water. The monster, Avian, spun into one of the buildings and let out its final screech before passing away into the darkness, its slayer still flying through the air and about to hit the dark, cold water below. Wander hit the water, his head continuing to spin, and tried to move, but he couldn’t. Black spirits swirled about and dug into his chest, making him cry out before letting unconsciousness take over him. Yet Wander still held his sword as tightly as before, the fierce determination to beat the colossi still swirling about inside him. |
