Title: Board Skin
Description: We've had the same one a looong time...

Shenmock - August 18, 2008 09:50 PM (GMT)
I know most of you are going to be like "That's such a stupid idea, this one is so good", but yeah...

A new board skin. We've had the same one for years upon years now, and it's not very attracting. @_@; I'm serious, guys, it can get a bit bland. With the people there, I'm sure we could make the niftiest board look...but yeah. @_@; I just want the Admins to think about this...all we've got is the picture of Natsume and the picture of Mistrel...ain't there something else that we can do about it to make it more attractive? D:

Stane - August 19, 2008 12:02 AM (GMT)
I posted a skin changer on here a while ago. People pretty much shy away from the idea of a new skin for sig and art color coordinating reasons. It's also not too harsh to look at. :P

I've basically noticed over the years that the more popular the board, the less likely it is to have a garish skin. I wouldn't be opposed to having a choice of skins, though I don't know how well it would work with the aforementioned sig and color coordinating issues. I for one don't want a new skin for myself. I rather like the way this one looks; simple, and pretty easy on the eyes.

Shenmock - August 19, 2008 12:14 AM (GMT)
Well, at least the banner...but yeah. @_@; I just like a good banner...with someone more popular in .hack other than Natsume. =/ Sorry, but that's my opinion on things, so...yeah. ;D

Centrus - August 19, 2008 02:16 AM (GMT)
While I can't claim to have been around when the banner was chosen, I have always thought that there is an element of symbolism in the fact that there is an underplayed character up on the banner. Natsume, despite her involvement with the .hackers, was, for the most part, a normal player of The World. It says something about us, you know?

We all may have ridiculous stories, grand and gruesome, but we're all just players. We're nothing special in the grand spectrum of it all.

But maybe that's just me being purple.

Shenmock - August 19, 2008 02:27 AM (GMT)
That's you beating some common sense into Shenny's mind. Wow, I really didn't see that before. Natsume was an ordinary and actually defines most of us... xD But yeahhhh...haha.

Mmm... Well, I for one tend to enjoy the more bland skins over the ones generally deemed 'more interesting'. My eyes are kinda... *coughshittycough* ...bad (Read: foot in front of face sans me bifocs'), and it's nice to have a skin that doesn't grind them into the ground like some of the forums I've seen. Mind you, that's not to say I'd be opposed to a change, as long as it's not garishly ugly, like say pink on orange, with purple headbars or anything. Something as easy on the eyes as this would have my full backing, however. Or even, the option to change it personally, and not universally.

I know me 'n a few other divvers have a DnD forum going on on IF, and we've got a little skin changer thing (I think it's yours, actually, Stane. Damned if my memory's that good either. xD ...Shit, I might be going senile early. Eyesight AND memory are going already. D:) going on that lets you pick how it shows on your individual computer. I think it's a brilliant little idea, since I can have my nice bland colors, Jimmybob can have his pink and orange, and Fatty Q can have the black and red emo one going on, all at the same time, and there's no conflict.

But hey, just my 2 GP, eh wot? :3

And new colors are never a stupid idea, though the particular colors can be. Eh? Eh? Lil' nugget of Xan wisdom there for ya. No extra charge.

Stane - August 19, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
Yep, I made it :P.

Oh, and here's the tutorial I made forever ago. Uruvei and them use the same thing on //alt as well. The reason why some of them don't work is because I haven't logged onto the ripway account in so long that they stripped the files they were hosting from their servers. So, the idea works.

EDIT: forgot the link that I was talking about >_>;

I'm generally more opposed to lighter skins just because it's easier on my eyes because I have an abnormally bright screen.

Like on one forum I couldn't tell the difference between gold and yellow font because of how bright my screen was, and that was with a black background.

But this one is perfectly acceptable for me and I think makes the board much more unique. Cause think about it, how many (ACTIVE and DEVELOPED) boards on IF actually use the default skin?

Zan - August 19, 2008 04:53 AM (GMT)
I'll give you my rather firm opinion on the matter: The board skin remains as it is and the banner remains as it is. Board skin, why? Well, I like it. It's always been this way. I'd like to think it's a part of the site. Banner, why? Well, for the reasons Centrus mentioned and the same reasons I stated for the skin.

Not trying to sound gruff or anything, but I'm very much against the change of those two things. They're a part of Divergence, far as I see it.

Takua - August 19, 2008 05:18 AM (GMT)
Honestly, I've come to see this skin as the Divergence skin. As something that is relaxing, pleasant, and still awesome. I don't see that it would need to change.

Besides, it makes for very easy banner making. Very little can go wrong with a white background.

Savior X - August 19, 2008 12:41 PM (GMT)
To simply put it, I think the skin we have now goes well with our current banners and site design. It's weird actually, when I go to other sites that have the normal blue skin, it looks really unprofessional and bad. But when I come here, it looks good. =P Maybe it's because the other sites only have like 5 posts on them and have been there for years. XDDD

EDIT: But, I did think of one thing that is bugging me. Someone should resize our top banner ever so slightly so it lines up correctly with Invision Power Board banner. It's just an occasional eye sore to me. o.o

That's not possible. The bar is actually a single-pixel-wide image that is stretched across the screen. It takes up as much space as the browser window provides. Therefore, it's not possible to adjust the size of the banner to match the bar because the bar itself has a variable size. Actually, we could, set the banner to have a variable size that matches the bar, but we would risk it becoming distorted on different screens.

Usagi - August 19, 2008 03:09 PM (GMT)
Even after how long I have been missing from this board, I was happy to come back here to see it the same. I've been to a lot of boards with colorful skins in the past, and while some of them were interesting, there was something about them that also turned me off. Just a little.

I like how this place has managed to stay the same and stay active. And this skin means Divergence to me. Change it, it wouldn't be the same, kinda like what Zan said.

Nothing says awesome and wild adventures more than that, which is set against the tranquil pool of soft blue hues of what appears to be a shallow lake, but with deeper grounds than anyone can possibly imagine.
