Title: LOSERS' BRACKET (unofficial)
Description: for the Root Town Tournament
Jpec07 - April 20, 2008 08:47 AM (GMT)
So I'm trying to gather interest around this idea, 'cause frankly, I think that I got kinda screwed over by being faced against the top-ranked duelist on Divvy first round of the tournament, and I think a lot of others might feel the same way. What I'm proposing is this: an unofficial double-elimination-style losers' bracket, wherein the losers would still be able to participate in regulated, graded duels in order to keep the spirit of the tournament going. Before I can even organize it, though, I need to find out who's interested.
Thus, if you're interested in participating in a losers' bracket, please post a reply. This goes for everyone who registerred for the tournament.
(Invasion of personal space by Lyra: because seeing "Route Town" instead of "Root Town" was driving me NUTS)

Only thing I'm unsure of (due to lack of knowledge of what it actually is) is the double-elimination thing you were talking about. Once I know that, then I possibly might enter.
T-T And I feel your pain. It hurts being KO'd in one shot due to level difference...not to mention that wavemasters are a BITCH to fight in duels

Factual inaccuracy: Assuming that winning the last tournament is the criteria for determining the "top-ranked" duelist, then both Lyra and I qualify for that title, as we won the Doubles Tournament together.
Don't take that too seriously, of course. I'm just eager to settle the title. The idea is good, though as I mentioned, it faces some potential challenges:
1. Some participants resigned altogether because of personal circumstances. Although they may be interested in continuing, consider the possible problems if some players are missing.
2. The sheer number of matches may become overwhelming.
Jpec or whoever handles this would have to settle the first issue. It might also help to see an example of how this would play out to be sure it wouldn't lead to some frustrating situations. For example, I wouldn't want to fight Lyra twice, but at the same time, people need to lose twice to be taken out of the game, and it would be unfair to only apply that rule when it's convenient. A demonstration would allow us to see if we really want something like this to happen or not.

That doesn't mean that people who would like to still get a dignified place and keep on with the duel might be able to announce they would like to keep participating. When it comes to odd numbers... well... that's a bit of a trick, methinks.

I'm going to decline the offer.

Sorry guys, but it's not looking good for me at all from many different angles.
1. My character isn't strong enough (doesn't have enough SP) to compete. My choice of spells include Repth (if I want to live) and anything else (if I want to die). Repth took up 10/15 of my SP (10/18 now), so I really don't have a choice other than swinging my big stick.
2. I was DQed from the duel due to late posts. Right now, I'm in a very involved quest (wasn't then), and have Ap tests and finals just around the corner. There's no way I can find the time unless I throw up the crap I did in the first round.

I hear ya...

To answer questions:
1. For people who resigned for personal reasons...they would be included in name only. If they can't or don't want to fight, then the person who would have been facing them would advance to the next round: just like what would happen if they withdrew from the normal tournament.
2. I could've sworn that it was "Route Town" because it routes you to your next location... @_@
3. The sheer number of matches wouldn't actually be any more than the number of matches in our second round of the main tournament.
4. I'll draw a mock-up bracket later on that shows a potential outcome of the tournament so you all can see how it would work.
I'm just trying to get a headcount here. If I don't get half of the people in the tournament interested, then it won't happen.

I wouldn't mind going for a second shot, for sure. ^_^

Actually.... you can buy scrolls and use those. They're exactly the same as the spells you'd get with armor, but they DON'T cost you SP. Of course, this tournament does limit the number of those you can use per round, but two is better than none.
<__< Thought you knew that already. Sorry, woulda told you otherwise.
EDIT: If I get knocked out of the lower bracket, I might be interested in a loser's bracket, but it would be nice to have the time between posts stretched back out to a week. I think that may be the main reason some people lost...
Also, I'd be willing to offer my rare Rabbit Change Piece as a prize if this works out... (I've been trying to get rid of that thing forever xD)

Extending the deadline would be bothersome. I have plenty of work, was late a few times because I couldn't handle my work and posting at the same time, and I still wouldn't want that. My match already took much longer than I wanted to be involved with it and that was posting every three days. A week would more than double the waiting time. In fact, "back out to a week" is probably incorrect, as I don't remember ever having to participate in a tournament where my opponent could stall for a week. Additionally, everyone has to wait for every match to end in order for the next round to commence. It would only worsen the month-long waits if we allowed that much time.
