| ...a snow-covered forested field, with a river splitting it in half. That creates two mediums to fight in, though I have no practice in aquatic combat. Of course, the water would be freezing, so I wouldn't recommend swimming unless you like being an ice cube. |
No special rules that I could see, 'sides the field.
Go.
Shenmock - August 13, 2007 03:49 PM (GMT)
The area was perfect for Shenmock. A snow-covered field with trees surrounding it. It was like one of those battles that animals had. This could turn out to be very interesting indeed. A river lay before him, the water swishing and waving around as it crashed against the side. He wouldn't want to get close to that if he wanted to stay alive and ready. He looked over to the other side. How he would get there, he didn't know, but he was ready for any kind of battle. A chipmunk flew past him, climbing and jumping over a tree and onto the other side. He would have to be Tarzan to do that, but who knew, that might be his way out. He looked at his spear. Or maybe he could launch himself over using his spear.
Shenmock looked to the other side, wondering where Baron could be. He was put on the right side in his perspective and Baron on the left. Or it could be the other way around. A cool breeze passed him, making him shiver. A piece of snow fell off the tree and thumped him in the head. Shenmock frowned. What was it with things falling on him? First, Baron, then snow. What next, Faust? Shenmock carefully pulled out his spear, standing a good six feet from the river's edge. The river seemed more ferocious than usual, crashing into the sides like a maddened beast. It looked like a good place for doing rapids if you wanted to be an ice cube.
Shenmock started thinking about his opponent. It would be a Twin Blade against a Long Arm. He had long range and some speed, but Baron had short range, speed, and more power, which gave him an advantage. But since Shenmock had the spear, he could swing from long distance, making it a bit harder for Baron to land a hit on him. Both of them had seen each other in battle. The Twin Blade, Shenmock knew for sure, was the better one. If overconfidence got the best of him, who knew what could happen to the battle. Shenmock gripped his spear tighter and got ready. The battle was approaching. He could tell that much.

Baron appeared on the far edge of the field, taking in the sight. The area was beautiful, the snow-covered trees glistening softly in the wan sunlight. The river running through the center was a piece of art too. It sparkled as the light caught it, creating a prism of colors. He was glad he had chosen this particular field. It would certainly be an interesting fight.
The Twin Blade's first step was to locate his opponent. Odds were that he had appeared on the other side of the field, but he wouldn't remain still long, placing him somewhere in the forest, where he'd have plenty of cover. But Baron had prepared for that- he knew how to use the cover to his advantage. His old buddy Shenmock would be in for a world of trouble.
That got Baron to thinking- why had his friend suddenly changed from a Wavemaster to a Long Arm? He had been doing decently, and Baron thought he would be going far with that class. But for whatever reason, he decided that wielding a spear would be preferable to a staff. At least he was a low level when he changed classes, so he didn't lose much. But that created a level gap that would make this fight all the easier.
Heading into the forest himself, Baron went to the nearest tree and began climbing. His ascent shook loose a few mounds of snow, but he managed to scramble up into the higher boughs. Once he was sure of his balance, Baron started leaping from branch to branch, making his way through the forest without shaking loose any more snow. He wouldn't be visible through the thick trees, so he could find the Shenmock without being discovered himself. The Long Arm was going to start off with a major disadvantage.
As he explored the forest, Baron caught sight of a flash of light reflected off of metal. Peeking through the thick branches of the tree he was in, Baron saw his opponent below him, unaware of the Twin Blade's prescence. He unsheathed his blades, but in doing so, he knocked loose another chunk of snow. Moving quickly, he jumped to another nearby tree, but Shenmock didn't even glance up. He was probably used to having things fall on him.
Nearly sighing in relief, Baron formulated his plan of attack. Now that his Lath Blades were unsheathed, it was time for the combat to begin. He leapt from his hiding place, diving down at the Long Arm from behind. He slashed out with both of his blades, aiming for Shenmock's arms, hoping to make him drop his weapon. After landing, he ran back into the forest, hoping that his hit-and-run strategy would throw off his opponent...

Shenmock looked into the sky, wondering what could happen. Baron could be watching him right now, but he seriously didn't care much about it. He had asked for a duel, he had gotten one. Nothing left for him to do. His ears were open to the rustles of the trees, the birds singing, and a branch moving? Shenmock barely could move before he saw the flashy appearance of Baron, his blades held high to slice his weapon's arm in half. Shenmock acted immediately by jumping back, only inches away from falling into the river. Shenmock looked down at it, trying not to think of falling, and regained balance, panting wildly. He looked up, seeing as Baron wasn't there. He was completely gone, guarded by the woods. He had the advantage at the movement. Jumping like a monkey around the forest was a bad thing, especially when you were the victim.
Shenmock ran forward into the woods, wondering if he could find Baron again. Shenmock gripped his spear tighter, running through the snow-covered woods. Trees were everywhere, getting to heights as high as thirty feet. Baron wouldn't be there. Maybe the medium-sized trees. But Shenmock remembered one thing, Baron was really unpredictable. Shenmock looked up, examining the trees around him in a desperate attempt to find him, looking around him every few seconds to see if he was still on foot. Baron would attack when least expected. When Shenmock was tired. This wasn't the time. Shenmock gripped his spear, the bushes rustling. A single chipmunk popped out, holding a small nut in his hand. It was strange to see something like that around here, but "The World" had many secrets. Maybe it would show him the secret of where Baron could be...

Baron, watching from a nearby bush, nearly jumped when a chipmunk decided to move nearby. It had startled him- he had expected Shenmock to strike from nowhere. The Long Arm had lost track of him, for now, but it was only a matter of time. Baron had to stay on the defensive- Twin Blades were unnecessarily fragile. A few blows from that spear could be deadly.
Peering carefully through the bush, Baron caught sight of a robed figure, his outfit blending somewhat with the pristine-white color of the battleground. It was Shenmock! Baron froze, holding his breath, absolutely still. He was certain that the chipmunk had drawn Shenmock's senses to the Twin Blade's hiding spot. The Long Arm was on guard after he dodged the initial strike, but Baron still had the element of surprise. He could strike at a given moment, which was precisely what this was. He whispered a spell quietly, trying to catch Shenmock off guard.
"Vak Kruz..."
Several fireballs erupted in the air around Shenmock, exploding near him. The damage would be pretty decent, if the flames hit. The snow around the area of the spell began to melt, and water began to form, refreezing instantly in the cold climate. A circular area of ice formed where the spell had originally struck.
Taking advantage of the Long Arm's surprise, Baron leapt out of hiding, aiming three quick strikes as he dodged by- one to the torso, one to the neck, and one to the arm holding the spear. As soon as he struck, he ran back into the forest, looking for a new hiding place. He leapt up the boughs of a low tree, getting back into the heights, where he could prepare a new counter.

Shenmock continued to grip his staff, not letting go of his grip even if his life depended on it. He looked around, wondering what would happen next. As if answering his question, three good-sized fireballs surrounded him, aiming exactly for him. He frowned. Baron wasn't fighting much, but he sent magic for him. Shenmock couldn't dodge a spell as strong as that, but could only watch in horror as all three of the fireballs collided with him, making a small explosion. Shenmock jumped, patting the fire away from his costume. It wasn't fun to have flames bursting out of your robes. Not fun at all. Shenmock gripped his spear tighter as he heard a rustle in the bushes. It was the place where the chipmunk came from! He should've known that Baron was hiding in there. He had hardly taken any look at the ground. Shenmock froze, sweat pouring down his cheecks even though it was cold. He was coming.
Baron popped out once again, but this time, Shenmock was ready for him. Gripping his spear, Shenmock guarded all three strikes, having to move very quickly or else he risked some major blows. The second Baron finished he ran away, jumping through the bushes in a desperate escape. Hit and run, huh, Shenmock thought. How about we play chase. Shenmock raced after him, jumping through some bushes, noticing the chipmunk climb up the tree. He couldn't let him get away again. Seeing as Baron climbed up a tree to his heights, Shenmock looked up from his place in the snow, not taking his eyes off Baron. He pointed at Baron with his spear, glaring coldly at him.
"Yo, monkey boy. Come down here and fight me." He gripped his spear, ready to use a skill to destroy the tree. "Or else I'm bringing this tree down with you in it." It wasn't a bluff and he was willing to destroy the forest to get to Baron. If Baron wanted it, he would have to just do it.
Locke - August 14, 2007 05:36 PM (GMT)
Baron watched as Shenmock readied his spear to chop down the tree he was hiding in. He wasn't particularly amused by his opponent's taunt, calling him "monkey boy." He couldn't go that easily, though. He had to think his moves through- mistakes could easily become fatal. He prepared a quick strategy, not checking for any possible holes- he was a bit rushed, now that he had been followed. He was surprised that that Shenmock had caught up; Baron was a Twin Blade, and they were the fastest of classes.
Baron leapt down from the tree, landing on the shaft of the spear. Since the Long Arm had been poised to destroy the tree, he had been forced to hold it in at a horizontal angle. Catching his balance as he landed, Baron sliced out with both of his blades once more, striking from close range. The twin slashes were aimed for the face and upper torso. With his spear weighted down by Baron's weight, Shemnock couldn't easily counter.
After attacking, Baron leapt off of the spear once more and jumped upwards, landing in another nearby tree. As he landed, he used the same fire spell he had cast before. It had done some good, so Baron thought it might be useful again. He didn't bother whispering this time- his opponent knew where he was.
"Vak Kruz!"
More fire exploded around the Shenmock. The light was reflected off of the snow, causing a momentarily blinding light. Baron used that cover to leap from tree to tree, getting away once more. He stopped when he reached a safe point, concealing himself in the snow. For once, he wished he had worn more than just a silver vest to blend in- his bright-green outfit showed up well in the white snow. Among the branches was the only place he could hide. The fir trees still had bright green needles that Baron could find shelter in without being seen. It was time to plan, and see what happened next...

So Locke wins by the premise of being the last person to have gotten a move in. That, and it was some three or four weeks ago. Not gonna grade it, because it's a win by default, though if either of you wants a grade just let me know and I'll get on it.
