Title: The "Hey, I'm gonna be at this con..." thread
Lyra - November 27, 2005 09:01 PM (GMT)
If you're going to a con and want to try to find other Divvers there, this is where you say so!
(Okay, got this idea when I saw Sekai's thread about Sakura-Con. If you like it, we'll pin it.
Basically, I'm making a list of major anime conventions and the Divvers planning to go to them. If you see a con that should be on this list, post it up. This maps out the next year's worth of cons. So far, it only lists ones that I know of/plan to go to, but I'll start listing more and try to get a healthy list going.)

Anime BostonMay 26-28. I dunno for sure, but I am definitely working towards going.
Oh, and I may also be going to Otakon, but the chances of that are pretty slim...
blackwitchkazumi - November 27, 2005 09:22 PM (GMT)
I'm going to Anime Expo! I go every year.
i'll be going to Jrock Con too(in November)
Hyruji - November 27, 2005 10:30 PM (GMT)
I'll be going to good ol' Otakon in August.
Hehe. All you Divvers that live remotely close to, or live in, Maryland should definatly attend.
*cough* Exangelus *cough*
Exangelus - November 27, 2005 10:45 PM (GMT)
*cough* Who, me? *cough*
Indeed. I shall be going to Otakon. I have deliberated with the officials... and shal lbe taking part in this wonderful event.
I actually don't know where it's being held... just know it's there and that my Anime Club will be going as well.
Asura - November 27, 2005 10:48 PM (GMT)
Anime Expo ftw!
<_< I would be going to FanimeCon, but I honestly don't have the money for it this year. Perhaps next year I shall do FanimeCon. As I say year after year to Wrennish.
Anybody who wants to see me at Anime Expo should contact me before the event. Depending on the person, I might just say "take a guess who I am" or I might actually set up some sort of meeting (which I will inevitably be late too). Oh. Though the easiest way to find me is late at night, where I go to the tabletop gaming room for long hours if no good anime is on. Magic: The Gathering until 4 AM! woot!
AniZona... small con, caps at 1200. I wouldn't really recommend people from outside of Arizona going out of their way for it. But if you're in Arizona and want a con... there ya go. Whoooo con!
Hyruji - November 27, 2005 10:53 PM (GMT)
Its at the Baltimore Convention Center.
Otakon
Shia - November 28, 2005 12:39 AM (GMT)
Anime Expo in Anaheim. I know that.
Sekai - November 28, 2005 12:40 AM (GMT)
I may be able to make a few of the Cons after June '06 depending on where I get into college, or if I'm taking a Community one to start.
I'll definately be attending the KumoriCon in September, and the SakuraCon in March, I'm already going to start putting away some money for the con.
Shia - November 28, 2005 01:08 AM (GMT)
I may be going to the
Japantown Anime Faire in December.
(Dec. 17-18)
Ko_Inuyasha - November 28, 2005 01:40 AM (GMT)
Divvier's should wear something in common to signal the divvyness.
An out of place accesory or something of the such....
Shia - November 28, 2005 01:41 AM (GMT)
Hm... I considered that... you don't think the Family Album's enough or something?
Ko_Inuyasha - November 28, 2005 01:44 AM (GMT)
I've never been but I was under the impression that most dressed up when they went to these things.
Shia - November 28, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
Cosplay...?
Maybe someone can make a small image... for... you know, buttons... IDs... or we could all just hold up a "Divvy" sign...
Ko_Inuyasha - November 28, 2005 01:52 AM (GMT)
Yes! Like picketers. Smart thinking but I don't think they'll allows steaks on planes for thoose of us that would travel by such.
Another cool idea would be if some of you carpooled cross country. Road trip of the anime characters... Sounds like a good movie\manga\fanfic idea.
*likes the idea but refuse to partake in the event*
Shia - November 28, 2005 01:54 AM (GMT)
I can't say if anyone's had trouble finding others before, but just in case, we could still use stickers or something.
Asura - November 28, 2005 01:57 AM (GMT)
<_< Some of us aren't in the Divvy Family Album. And some of us (in the past) have put up pictures of other people for the Divvy Family Album. So that isn't exactly the best source of images to get from people.
Also, trust me. I went as a seperate group to Anime Expo because we didn't plan to meet up with our other friends ahead of time. Trying to find two girls out of a crowd of 33,000 people is not easy... by sheer luck, we met up with them on the fourth day of Expo.
Don't do that. It's not very effective. If anyone wants to meet other Divvers at Anime Expo, set up a meeting place. <_< Granted, I'll be rather busy myself... gotta go to Masquerade 2006, gotta play me some Dance Dance Revolution (and hopefully get to beat Kiwi!), gotta run around buying stuff, and gotta represent the Principality of Zeon!
HAIL ZEON!
Ko_Inuyasha - November 28, 2005 02:03 AM (GMT)
*slowly moves away from the obsessed one in the group*
yeah...
How could you set up a meeting place if you don't know the alyout of the place?
Shia - November 28, 2005 02:06 AM (GMT)
*Intended to say so before Ko's reasoning*
He makes a point. Who knows who's new or capable to finding the meeting place? And considering AX... there's no doubt going to be some changes. Maps here, maybe? Nobody's probably gone through the trouble, but there's no hurt in being prepared.
Asura - November 28, 2005 02:07 AM (GMT)
<_< well if ya don't know the layout of the place, then you're kinda screwed.
Basics you can set up for meeting at Anime Expo are pretty easy. People go to one of three hotels for their stay at Anime Expo, so you can easily set up to meet at one of the lobbies before heading out to the preregistration lines (trust me. If you don't pre-register, the lines are death). I'm gonna likely be meeting people who can pick me out at the tabletop gaming room late nights. Me and my buddies like the large Magic: The Gathering games that get started there... we've had a 12 person free-for-all once. It was spiffy.
I do NOT suggest meeting in the line ('cause you can't) or meeting at the dealer's room. Dealer's Room is huge. FREAKIN' HUGE! Most events also can't be good meeting places, as they have a tendency to not allow you the choice of seat due to the amount of people they have to send into the event.
For the faint of heart, I do not suggest waiting outside of the Convention Center. Man-Faye shall be there. However, that is another good place to meet, since there is a good flow of people, but it is still relatively visible if you know what to be looking ofr.
Oh. And if ya want, ya can always meet at the 24 hour arcade. I'll probably also be there, playin' DDR.
Edit: Anime Expo 2006 will have the same basic set-up. Same Convention Center, same hotels. Presumably the same areas will exist, although probably moved around a bit. It is safe to think that the 24/7 Arcade will still exist and most of the gaming rooms will still exist. Just in different areas of the Mariott probably.
Ko_Inuyasha - November 28, 2005 02:12 AM (GMT)
*takes note of a crazed Zeon and a spanish kiwi playing DDR*
Very informative. I wouldn't call myself faint of heart but I definantly don't want to see Man-Faye in person. *shudders*
You're most helpfull Asura
Jpec07 - November 28, 2005 02:19 AM (GMT)
Y'know, I may be able to get some buttons made. Then I'll post up a large image of what they look like on here and send them to whoever wants one free of charge. 'course this is assuming I can get the necessary funds to make some 150 pins, and the resolve to design what they'll look like, but that's never too hard (shipping could be a problem, though).

Well if you don't want to pay, we could all just print the image out and make pins. *shrugs*
Jpec07 - November 28, 2005 02:23 AM (GMT)
That'd work. First question: how big should it be?
*is thinking that 2 inches would work well*
Shia - November 28, 2005 02:24 AM (GMT)
Uh... considering image pixels -> real life, I'd say about 300x300.
Hey, Lyra! Don't forget to add me to the AX!
Ko_Inuyasha - November 28, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
2 inch diameter or radious?
Shia - November 28, 2005 02:28 AM (GMT)
Uh... you can't really generate a circle in an image editor unless you leave a blank circumference. 300x300 is more or less 3 inches in both directions.

That's actually dependent on how high you set the resolution. Standard is 72 Pixels per Inch, so I'll size the image accordingly (either that or up the resolution for a clearer image in print). As for the button size, it seems that a 3" pin is the most common size: it's not too big to be overbearing, but not so small that it can't be noticed. I'll make the image, load it onto my server, then link it here.
Ko_Inuyasha - November 28, 2005 03:00 AM (GMT)
We feel special with our special divvy special buttons. :woot:
Lyra - November 28, 2005 03:13 AM (GMT)
Lol, you guys have gotten soooo far off topic.
We'll have to try reviving the Divvy store at some point though, I guess.
Asura - November 28, 2005 03:28 AM (GMT)
<_< Trust me. You're not going to be noticing a button in a crowd of 33,000. I had trouble finding a person I know well dressed in a red duct tape Vash outfit. Granted, there was an entire TWO other duct tape outfits out of those 33,000 people, but that isn't the point.
Anime Expo Divvers should meet somewhere. Personally, I'd say the table-top gaming room for some D&D... but I might be teh only tabletop gamer in the group.
First day, I'll be getting coffee and going straight to preregistration lines possibly. Last time, my group got delayed by traffic and was unable to get our passes the day before, so that is what we ended up doing that, sans coffee because the coffee shop wasn't open quite yet. Note that preregistration lines are LONG. As are lines to get into the Dealer Room first day. Get used to them.
First night will inevitably be the best time to meet me, all things considering. Ya can also meet teh Ly, depending on whether or not Asura is stalking Ly or Ly is stalking Asura.
Lord Canti - November 28, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
I was invited to join some friends at Anime-Boston. That's in May. Long time to be planning for it, but at least I can't foul up the trip if I plan ahead.
Senna - November 28, 2005 06:07 PM (GMT)
Hehe. I'll be a Katsucon in Feb. (Look for the gal cosplaying Ardam from Adventurers the Web comic) and at Otakon in August (costumes TBD, though I'll prolly reprise my glomp-attracting Shishiwakamaru costume). Both times I'll be accompanied by my sister, who'll have a 20-inch red-winged plushie from her comic on her shoulder.
I wanna go to one with all the divvers tho *pout*
Uruvei - November 29, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
I put out a verrry tentative "I'll be there" for Animazement. My school's anime club is trying to organize something, and even if that dies (which is likely. -.-; ) I may still be able to go with just my mom and a friend or two. But there are still too many "ifs" to be 100% certain either way yet.
Rion Runeosuke - November 29, 2005 12:58 AM (GMT)
I ight [Keyword: "MIGHT"] be going to AnimeNEXT in NJ on june 16-18... pending transportation, and wether I can get Rauko away from boarding school for a weekend, and Sev as well.... if thats the case and you show there, just look for the group everyone's scared to approach. [Give any 3 of us even one grain of sugar, and you'd better run if you value your life..] Then again, bring along Ritz and Mads, and there may be a little hostle takeover or somthing on the news being reported at the Meadowlands Exposition Center where it's being held...

THE PIN IS IN!!!
Here are the instructions for printing this image:
Right click the link below. In the menu that scrolls down, click on "Save Target As" or its equivalent in your browser. After saving, open it in whatever image-editing software you have (but not MS Paint: if you try to print from that it will come out all messed-up size-wise). Then, print it from that program.
Do not print from the browser: it renders the image improperly, no matter what browser you use. The end result should be a black box with a circle in it three-inches in diameter (including the white border). If you're having any trouble with it, let me know and I'll see what I can do. Anyway, here's that link:

Ko_Inuyasha - November 29, 2005 04:19 AM (GMT)
That would be so frailing cool on a shirt!
Sekai - November 29, 2005 04:55 AM (GMT)
Who can make shirts here?
*laughs* Ebay time!
Shia - November 29, 2005 06:58 PM (GMT)
Sweet image!
(Now if only I knew how to make that into a pin. Perhaps I should have considered that before suggesting this...)
Uruvei - November 30, 2005 02:36 AM (GMT)
Oooh. Nice font! :D
We really should have shirts of that! It would be much more noticable than a pin... and much more usable, since we could wear it in everyday life to show off our cool divvy-ness.
Doesn't DIVERGENCE have a cafepress store or something? I thought I remembered some kinda online store from a while ago... maybe we could get a deal for shirts through that. Of course, a shirt costs much more than a print-your-own pin...
