Title: Pirates of the Carribean (SPOILERS)
Description: cool movie
Meneldil - July 12, 2003 01:38 AM (GMT)
Great movie, some quick pointers
Seeing how I am not a teenage girl I can unbias about Orlando Bloom, he is an OK actor. Will he get better? Not sure. He can sell romance for sure. But action, adventure, comedy, he can do ok. He needs more practice I suppose. He is not ready to carry his own movie yet.
Johnny Depp rocked. He stole the movie and made everyone else 2nd to him. His acting was amazing. Also very funny. Always a good actor.
The ending was a disapointment, I was hoping Will and Liz would jump off and become pirates and the brits would chase after them. That would have been a better ending.

Okay...to properly explain what I thought of the movie...allow me to put in an MSN IM transcript of how i viewed the movie <Ghost, Oorla, and Drav were in this conversation):
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
I saw Pirates of the Carribean today...it was much better than I expected
Ghost says:
sharp point!
Disgruntled says:
OH
Disgruntled says:
that was WONDERFUL
Ghost says:
Johhny depp is a suprisingly good actor
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
yeah...if a horrible activist
Ghost says:
Hey drav - post a review in the movie forum
Disgruntled says:
Hey, remember the part where Bloom and Depp were in the canoe under water???
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
I may
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
yes
Disgruntled says:
I sat there watching it and I said "Aw, geez...that wouldn't work"
Disgruntled says:
and Nick got mad and started spouting off all this physics crap
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
It could...
Disgruntled says:
"If they are perfectly level..."
Disgruntled says:
"Nick, they can't be level!!! He just stumbled!!! The beach is on a slope!!!"
Penelope says:
lol
Disgruntled says:
and we started this HUGE argument about it in the middle of the theater
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
They wouldn't have to be perfectly level...haven't you ever taken a bucket and done that in a pool?
Disgruntled says:
every time you tilt it, the air gets pushed out and the water takes its place
Disgruntled says:
BUT...that is ONLY if you put the bucket in STRAIGHT down
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
right...but not all the air would make it out
Disgruntled says:
if you put it in SIDEWAYS, like you would have to to get a canoe COMPLETELY submerged in waters, it would fill with water
Penelope says:
brb must go get chocolate milk
Disgruntled says:
okay
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
as long as the lip of the bucket is underwater, and some portion of the bucket is above the lip...
Disgruntled says:
right, but this canoe was COMPLETELY SUBMERGED!!!
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
and if you put it in at an angle only half of the bucket or so
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
as jd said in the movie...impropable...yes
Disgruntled says:
anyway, Nick and I started arguing about the physics and the possiblities and the impossibilities...and the people behind us were laughing at us
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
Its a very good movie
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
best pirate movie in a long time, as a matter of fact
Disgruntled says:
and what was really funny was that we chose THAT to argue about whether that was realistic or not...IN A MOVIE ABOUT DEAD MEN WALKING!!!
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
they weren't dead.
Disgruntled says:
well
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
they were only cursed
Disgruntled says:
whatever
Disgruntled says:
the point is...that we were being silly
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
still love ya Bonnie
Disgruntled says:
and we were actually fighting
Ghost says:
You silly?
Disgruntled says:
like...getting mad and everything
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
mad at each other?
Disgruntled says:
yup
Disgruntled says:
lol
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
You were agreeing, weren't ya?
Disgruntled says:
we're both very stubborn people
Disgruntled says:
well...EVENTUALLY, Nick spouted all this physics stuff and ended up disproving his own theory
Disgruntled says:
and from there we called it a draw and enjoyed the rest of the movie...which is to say: the credits
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
lol
Disgruntled says:
I have a canoe
Disgruntled says:
and I have a pond
Penelope says:
back
Disgruntled says:
Sunday...WE EXPERIMENT!!!
Once more due to popular demand....it's me! says:
yay!
Disgruntled says:
we're going to end up drowning
Penelope says:
ooh!
Disgruntled says:
you'll see it on the news about 2 college students who drowned in a backwater pond under a canoe. Mom-"They were only doing a simple science experiment!!!"
Penelope says:
lol
Disgruntled says:
we're such dorks...

Still, bonnie, you keep saying "it's completely submerged" as though that has anything to do with anything. It would be almost impossible to get rid of ALL the air...if you didn't tilt it overmuch there would always be some left at the top. Whether it would be enough to breathe and safely get across is a question; and whether they could possible hold down the canoe with as much air as was shown in the movie is another question. But since they had lead in their pockets, obviously, they were fine.
Merin Sun - July 25, 2003 08:11 PM (GMT)
And you keep assuming they have lead in their pockets!!!...they do not!!!
And my problem is that they had to DRAG the canoe completely underwater...they walked it down so that it was completely submerged...but OBVIOUSLY that would be hard to do in you're not pushing it straight down, you're having to tilt it a great deal to get it underneath.

Merin, this movie had Ghost Pirates in it! (or Pirate Ghosts, depending on how you view it) A minor oversite of real ife physics shouldn't really bother you.
That being said, Depp owned this movie.
