Events of the past few days have called my attention back toward the cookie cabinet. Personally, I have a certain fondness for many of you, but for whatever reason it was easier for me to just not be around. I'm glad to see this board, your board now, is doing well.

Before I continue with this greeting I should address something I said in other company. I refered to Merin's old group of board friends as a cult of personality. Some time ago I assessed a lot of what some members were doing as such, and as being much more obsequious than I was comfortable with. Maybe I was wrong, maybe not. Since I regularly find myself regreting most of the things I thought were a good idea the previous year and reflecting on what a dork I was at that point, it could well be that I was wrong. Those threads are gone, so I don't know. That was my impression after a few months. It was pretty easy to leave, especially because I felt the initial board lacked direction and was generally not very attractive to me, even if I was a moderator at some point. I've found myself missing the prescence of certain memebers with whom I believe I am still on amicable terms.

Now I ought address Ghostdriver. I called your early writing claptrap, and said a lot of people fawned over it without good reason. Just so we're clear, I never liked you're writing. I didn't think it was funny. A lot of people said they did. The first and second time you left (and perhaps the third if there were indeed three as I seem to recall) I expressed dislike for your writing, and indeed you. In chat you are a fine person. I rather like you. When you put pen to paper with people who are not like minded, or about a controversial subject, you invarialbly make an ass of yourself. Otherwise you are a decent soul. I once characterized your initial leaving as separating the wheat from the chaff. Of course I had yet to speak to you in chat, I didn't know you were a pleasant enough person under the right circumstances. My personal assesment of you still stands, I'll own up to it. On boards, I disagree with a lot of what you say and find much of your conduct distasteful. In casual, one to one conversation, you're an okay guy.

I wouldn't even bring it up, but I thought if I was going to come to this board and say "I missed some of you guys, here I am," I should address it. A lot of people are being duplicitious and rude right now. I made some rude statements before coming over to explore. I wouldn't want to be pretending I never made them. If I said it, I said it with conviction.

That said, I could do with a little looniness and a light enviroment. This is not to say I do not enjoy cold rocks. I still love it despite the fact that it has lost some of it's appeal (which as I insist comes from robert jordan's contempt for his readers) due to the diminished community. It is not a place of goofiness though, which it really hasn't been for years now, since the island left and the lighter and goofier amongst us drifted away.

I came over to see what had been said about my friend and found myself rather disapointed in that respect. In principle though, this seems a fairly decent place, and I can't say my affection for members I knew in the past has wained entirely.

I'll be around I think.

Thanks for the honsety. I understand your sentiments perfectly. Not everyones form of writing, whether it be fanfic, poetry etc is analogous with everyone elses likes - it's just personal taste. And we all say things that we later regret, I have done the same recently. And no, we don't all always like how someone expresses themselves in post/threads on a message board.

I too always found you to be very likeable in non-post encounters (like in the chat room). I hope we can have more encounters of that ilk an go from there :)
