Title: Christian Rock:
Description: Bringing the word of the Lord to all.

Dorothy - January 30, 2004 10:50 AM (GMT)
I think that it's great that there are some cool new bands sharing the Lord's glory and promoting aa safe, honest lifestyle.

Listening to the wholesome, yet honest and truthful lyrics gives me a warm sense of well being.

My parents aren't fans of rock and roll in general, but they seem to tolerate me listening to certain bands, as long as their message is consistent with the Lords.

What are your favourite Christian rock groups and why?

Eklektikos - January 30, 2004 10:55 AM (GMT)
Slayer :smug:

Dorothy - January 30, 2004 10:55 AM (GMT)
I like Creed, Lifehouse, Jars of Clay and Caedmon’s Call.

They really grasp the truth inherent in the Lord's word, even though Creed say they are not Christian Rock, they are doing good deeds and spreading our Saviour's love, so I still consider them to be on the side of good.

I can't say that I've heard of Slayer, are they a modern group or an older one?

Eklektikos - January 30, 2004 10:59 AM (GMT)
They've been around for a while. Particularly uplifting are their albums South Of Heaven, Divine Intervention and of course the classic praise ballad Angel Of Death :)

Dorothy - January 30, 2004 11:01 AM (GMT)
Wow, thanks. :D

Next time my parents go into town, I'll ask if they can pick me up one of these albums. I'm always looking for new bands.

Do you have any other suggestions?

Eklektikos - January 30, 2004 11:08 AM (GMT)
Testament and Morbid Angel might be worth a look. Real life-affirming music :woot:

Dorothy - January 30, 2004 11:10 AM (GMT)
Hmm. Mobid Abgel sounds a little suspect.

I do hope that you are not steering me in the wrong direction.

One of the boys on a neighbouring farm wears a Testament t-shirt. They don't appear to be doing the Lord's work. :hmm:

Eklektikos - January 30, 2004 11:11 AM (GMT)
The Lord moveth in mysterious ways :)

Dorothy - January 30, 2004 11:13 AM (GMT)
Truly He does.

I'm sorry I questioned your sincerity, I've had people try to trick me in the past.

It's great that you'd try and share your knowledge with others, I'll look into your suggestions.

KaneDragon - January 30, 2004 01:16 PM (GMT)
Christian music was created by Satan to drive people away from the faith. :cringe:

Dorothy - January 30, 2004 02:10 PM (GMT)
There's no such thing as Satan.

omichyron - January 30, 2004 04:42 PM (GMT)
oooh. Vehemence :yeah:

edit:

and we must not forget Christian Death and Velvet Acid Christ (industrial stuff)

and of course Tool and even Disturbed (what with their second CD titled Believe and all)

:yeah:

edit 2:

Blutengel

and of course Lamb of God :smug:

Dorothy...I may have fondness in my heart for these boys...but they do love a good laugh at the expense of others and I'd hate for you to have wasted money and gotten in trouble with the folks b/c they think giving you the wrong names is funny...

I would suggest that you look up each band's name on the internet and check to be sure that they are Christian.

One band that started out Christian but then went secular (:hmm:) is Evanesence...but they have this song called Tourniquet on their newest CD that is really good. The whole CD's lyrics are clean and nicely done...the music is a bit dark but it is still good.

Matrim Cauthon - January 30, 2004 06:40 PM (GMT)
Might I suggest "Andy Griffeth sings his Favorite Hymns"

Haplo - January 30, 2004 09:09 PM (GMT)
 Ah yes, Testament, Slayer, Morbid Angel, Tool. Good wholesome bands.

You're an evil man, Eklektikos... :mischief:

Jars of Clay - My favorite
Caedmon's Call (Derek Webb's solo album is also very good) - Country music without the country voice; what's not to like?
Mercy Me - "I Can Only Imagine" is great, but I actually like their covers, such as "Love of God" and "Give Us Clean Hands" more.
Charlie Hall - Good rocky Christian
Matt Redman - Same
Steven Curtis Chapman - Gotta love "Dive"

And for some harder stuff:

38th Parallel - A Christian Linkin Park... but they were making their music before Linkin Park
Supertones - Christian ska?

harder stuff? riiiiiiight

ignoring certain other band mentioned that may or may not be Christian ( :mischief: ) you should try Zao. Real Christian death metal. Itīs pretty dull for death metal, but amazingly good for Christian music.

an example of their ridiculously corny Christian lyrics:
1. Lies Of Serpents, A River Of Tears

Your eyes [2x]
Your eyes search for me [4x]
Your eyes
Your eyes search for me

For so long I've wanted to come home
Held back by lies of serpents and tongues of brothers
Turning a child into an enemy
Turning open arms into closed fists

I could see the reflection in the tears
That made their way down Your face
Onto the ground I kneel upon
They form a river that overtakes me
Compassion envelops me
I forgive and release
Forgive, release
Forgiven, released

The only one of these CDs I have is Liberate Te ex Inferis. since itīs pretty dull compared to Nile, Vader, Vehemence, or any of the rest of the death metal out there, I donīt listen to it much. That doesnīt mean it isnīt a huge step above some Christian version of Linkin Park (a band that is saved from being the worst in the entire world only by the idiotic lyrics and antics of Fred Durst, lead ĻsingerĻof Limp Bizkit)

Hey, "harder" is relative, not superlative. >:
