Title: What is your favorite game genre?
Description: (The poll was reset, so VOTE VOTE VOTE!)
KaneDragon - July 27, 2003 06:11 PM (GMT)
Well, I expected that the results would reset when I edited the poll, but the total votes remained the same. At least that gives me a chance to exercise my newfound MOD powers. :yeah:
What is your favorite game genre? Feel free to define what the categories mean to you--where do you draw the line? Grand Theft Auto 3 and Mario 64 both count as adventure, right?
Strategy: (Alpha Centauri, Homeworld, Starcraft)
RPG: (Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger)
Adventure: (Myst, The Longest Journey, GTA3, Mario 64)
Action: (Battlefield 1942, Halo, Descent)
Simulation: (flight, driving, etc...)
Puzzle: (Tetris)
Sports: (hockey, football, etc...)
Chrono Trigger is an RPG, not Adventure! ^_^

Turn Based strategy, any time. Alpha Centauri especially, but Civilization 2 or 3, Lords of the Realm, any of that ilk. I also enjoy RTS's, like Empire Earth, SerfCity, and the ilk. Adventures can be good too (Myst, The Longest Journey.)
KaneDragon - July 28, 2003 03:30 AM (GMT)
I have very little skill as a gamer. Therefore, my default genre is RPG. :ohwell:
I may have voted too soon, however... Games like Perfect Dark ( :hail: ) and Goldeneye were really fun.

I have only played 2 games outside of the Mario series that would be considered "gaming":
Chrono Trigger
and
StarCraft
Of the two, Chrono Trigger was the one I enjoyed the most, and that is adventure.
KaneDragon - July 28, 2003 09:21 PM (GMT)
:hmm2: Chrono Trigger is an RPG most.

Strategy. First game I ever played was Civilization. The game I just got done playing 20 minutes ago was Starcraft. I did love the action/rpg for Nintendo called Chrystalis, but the Diablo series gets a bit tiresome after a while (walk around and kill everything in sight. where's the role playing) and Chrystalis has very little replayability (plus it had lots of that walking around and killing everything feel, too). NOX was ok. Overall, I feel like RPGs are just endless killing stuff. Strategy games are much more varied (though they also have lots of killing stuff ;) )

Chrono is RPG???
well...waddya know...
Well...I liked it!!!
KaneDragon - July 30, 2003 01:29 PM (GMT)
Good for you. So do I. Best RPG on the SNES, and not too bad in general. :D
The stats/leveling-up might have been a hint towards the possibility... :P

Have you played any besides action/rpg's? Diablo II isn't exactly a good standard to judge the genre by, though Diablo I did have a kind of D&D feel to it. How about just a regular RPG, like... Chrono Trigger! Or Final Fantasy 6 (SNES), 7, 8, 10 (PS2)... Those games actually have plots and stuff, and the battle systems of Final Fantasy games vary with each game. Please, play one for the sake of the genre!

FF10
FF7
FF8

Or Baldur's Gate 2...that's an excellent game. And it's for PC, the only worthwhile gaming platform :P
KaneDragon - July 30, 2003 03:11 PM (GMT)
*gives kundor a high five*

Nah, the original Nintendo was the only worthwhile gaming platform
Wizards and Warriors 1 and 3!!!
Chrystalis
All the Mario games
Ninja Turtles
Top Gun (hahaha. can a game that unrealistic be called a flight simulator?)
Shingen the Ruler
Metroid
the list goes on
If you have an emulator, try playing Chrystalis. I loved that game :yeah:

Final Fantasy 7 and 8 have been out for the PC as well for sometime, so you could probably get them at low prices.
Penfold the Small - August 4, 2003 02:17 AM (GMT)
Strategy mostly, things like SMAC, CivII, CivIII, also RPG's, Final Fantasy VI and VII especially.

Blah, the best were the old Atari games. Breakout, Pac-man, Combat, that caterpillar game....I played those at my grandparent's house :D
Penfold the Small - August 6, 2003 03:43 AM (GMT)
I still have my Atari set up in my room :P
The wonderous games of Miss Pac-man, Asteroids, Missile Command and Grand Prix :glee:
omichyron - November 9, 2003 07:41 PM (GMT)
don't go around resetting old polls and making us all vote again
<Don't be hatin'. :( >
omichyron says: I'll be hatin' if I want to :P Besides, if you do this with too many polls it will just be a big mess
<It won't happen again. Really.>
but reading my old post has made me realize how much I miss Chrystalis and Wizards and Warriors. I think I'll go hunt down an emulator because my NES is at home right now. (note: this is actually legal per Nintendo's stance on the issue, which is that if you own the actual ROM you're allowed to have multiple copies of it, including version that may be played with an emulator  )
KaneDragon - November 9, 2003 05:29 PM (GMT)
Get back here and vote! B)
