Title: Favorite FF Magic System
Description: FF7 (Materia)? FF8 (Guardian Forces)?
KaneDragon - August 8, 2003 03:58 PM (GMT)
This is not a question of your favorite Final Fantasy game. Perhaps you really loved the materia system, but thought that FFVII was a worthless cookiesce of trash. It's hard to put names to all the systems... Anybody got a better way to describe the systems or the differences between systems such as FFVI and FFVII?

If you make a game called Final Fantasy, creating a sequal should be out of the question. The fact that there are a huge number of Final Fantasy games is just funny. :P

what happened to FF I-IV???
KaneDragon - August 8, 2003 09:51 PM (GMT)
I excluded FFI-IV because they are not as well known (and I haven't played them). And anyway, I believe that it is in the later games that the systems get interesting and varied.
And omichyron, you are not the first one to point that out.
As a way of explaining it ipso facto, the Final Fantasy games do not follow each other in story (FFX-2, I hate you :stab: ).

I have beaten FFV and FFVI and played a bunch of FFVII and FFVIII (and FFIX, to a lesser extent). FFX had a most interesting system of spheres. However, I do not have much experience with that game, so sadly, I will have to give my vote to FFVIII. I liked FFVIII's system of magic and summons (and equipping magic automatically to raise stats was handy). However, FFVII's system is much simpler, especially when it comes to swapping between party members ( :scared: Junction Exchange :scared: ). Still, GF's balance it out.
FFVI's system of Espers was good, but FFVIII's Guardian Forces do all that and more. They give abilities instead of magic (and offer the stat-ups, too), allowing players to select the next ability to work towards and offering a greater selection. :P

10's sphere board was really cool, becasue of how custimazable it is, especiall in the late game, wanna get 99,999hp? Go ahead, it won't be cheap or easy but is possible.

FFVII's Materia, mostly because it was the only system that I actually understood, second would be the FFVI Espers.
4x Slash Materia =
Final Attack + 5star Phoenix = :mwaha:
Knights of the Round Table + 5star Mime on all characters. . . . oh baby. :whoa:

Job class? FFV = JES2?
KaneDragon - September 8, 2003 12:26 PM (GMT)
:hmm2:
I have finally deigned to answer because my Worms thread apparently killed the forum... :hmm
I don't know what JES2 is, but... Job Class: Your characters can switch between Fighter, Black Mage, White Mage, Bard, Knight, Ninja, etc... and learn abilities from each.

I never got into the materia system, the sphere system in ten was the best imo. Ive played all the american ones cept the rereleases. Espers were cool, but took freaking long to master. DOn't remeber FFII cept that there was dragoons and bahamut was cool. FF 8 was ok, never got into the magic system there either.
BTW FFX-2 Comes out next tuesday, woot!~

I could've really enjoyed eight if not for the fact that you were penalized for using some of the most important spells, meltdown aura and tripple being chief among these. Now granted, once you reach a certain point in FF unless you have some riddiculously powerful magic effect, you will never find yourself using magic again except to heal, so this can be overlooked to some degree. Still, I like to drop an occasional spell just because, and the only good ones were all junctioned. Thus the "powerful" spells were not something I'd want to use, since they were a pain in the ass to get.
Also it should be pointed out that mime did not in fact have 5 stars, and if my recollection holds it was a 2 star materia.
The sphere grid was a pretty cool idea, except for the fact that breaking the hp limit wasn't really a good idea, and that if you were moving a really long distance it took the thing a long time to walk the path.
