Title: Fruits Basket!
Voltei - October 18, 2004 06:13 AM (GMT)
My friend let me borrow 26 episodes of Fruits Basket. ^_^
Yay!
The basic storyline is that Tohru, who recently lost her mother in a car accident, stumbles upon a house.
The house is actually a safehouse for those who are possessed by the animals of the Chinese Zodiac.
Anyone who is possessed will have the character traits of the animal, affinity towards that animal, and when the opposite gender hugs him or her, they will transform into that animal.
Tohru is entrusted with keeping this secret as they don't want everyone to know about this.
Did I mention there's lots of angst in this anime? ^^;

you know what? It sounds JUST LIKE Ranma 1/2 if you ask me.

With the exception that it takes place in present day Japan, the ability to change occurs in 13 people, and the only martial arts are between the Cat and the Rat. ^^;

Point number one:So does Ranma.
Point number two:Uh... only because there are 13 zodiac symbols.
Point number three:Not the martial-arts ness, just the general synopsis of it... though I can't see A version of ranma without a half-blind knife throwing duck.

Here's a much better synopsis of it. Too tired to remember details.
After losing her mother in a traffic accident, Tohru Honda found herself living all alone in a tent in the woods. But little did she know that those woods were property of the renownd Sohma family. Shigure and Yuki Sohma, who lived in the house not too far from where Tohru was staying, discovered her and, feeling sorry for her, decided to let her stay with them for a little while. Yuki happend to go to the same high school as Tohru, and he was also one of the most popular boys in school(with his own fan club) so Tohru was more than shocked to be in the same house as "Prince" Yuki. All seemd well for a while...until Tohru accidentally stumbled upon the Sohma family's well-kept secret: whenever one of them is hugged by a member of the opposite sex, or when their bodies are under a lot of stress, they transform into an animal of the Chinese Zodiac!(Shigure's animal is the dog and Yuki's is the rat.) Tohru promised to keep their curse a secret, but before much else can be said, she's introduced to another Zodiac member - brash, hot-headed Kyo Sohma, whose animal, the cat, isn't considered a true member of the Zodiac and is shunned by the others. Not only that, but Kyo is practically the complete opposite of calm, well-mannered Yuki, and the two share a mutual and bitter hatred for each other. They're constantly fighting(and destroying the house in the process) and they absolutely refuse to accept one another(the cat and the rat aren't supposed to get along, are they?)
When someone discovers the Sohma family curse, their memory is often erased by Hatori Sohma(who's the family doctor and also the dragon of the Zodiac.) However, Shigure, Yuki, and even Kyo are touched by Tohru's kindness and overflowing concern for others, so it's decided to leave her memory of them intact for a while. They also decide to let her live with them, and she does the cooking and cleaning for them in return. Even though this much is settled, there's still tension in the air because of Yuki and Kyo's relentless enmity. However, as the two of them spend more time with Tohru, her warmth and cheerfulness begin to slowly melt away their surpressed anger and inner conflicts. Gradually, the will to fight with each other becomes less and less, and they begin to feel more concern for her than for the need to despise each other. Not only that, but meeting Tohru has the same affect on the other members of the Zodiac too, who all suffer because of their curse, especially in their relationships with other people. As Tohru encounters happy-go-lucky Momiji the rabbit, shy, self-conscious Kisa the tiger, insecure Ritsu the monkey, as well as the other troubled Zodiac members, her selfless and caring heart touches each of their lives, and after meeting her, they end up feeling better about themselves. One by one, Tohru gives each of them the courage to confront their greatest fears and the motivation to find the good qualities that they never knew they had. Despite still being haunted by the grief of her mother's death, Tohru is constantly supported by her two best friends Saki and Arisa, as well as the Zodiac members that she befriends. She always manages to keep a smile on her face, and she has an invisible power to make others to the same, in spite of how tragic things may seem.
However, there's one Sohma whom Tohru's kindness is not able to reach. The mysterious Akito Sohma, who's the head of the family though not a member of the Zodiac. He's always been slightly distrustful of Tohru and he may be the one to decide that her memory should be erased after all! And as if this isn't bad enough, just as Kyo's rage and anger were beginning to lessen because of his time with Tohru, it's discoverd that he has a deadly and wicked secret locked deep inside of him and, when that secret is finally unleashed, Tohru may be the only one who can save him from his own inner demon!

Actually I read the Manga and only watched like 2 episodes of the anime. But it's basically the same, except the ending.

I guess I just like character development...
It's really the details that I like, most of all.

I can understand that feeling. I love character-driven stories to death.
Personally, I think there's a lot of different elements to a great plot - the story, the characters, and the quality of narrative/dialog. So even if stuff does go "boom!", it won't mean a thing if it isn't well-written and the characters are all so stupid you don't care about them at all.

Voltei - November 26, 2004 01:36 AM (GMT)
No, in this show, you would be Ayame.
Master perverted brother extraordinaire and maker of clothing such as nurse, schoolgirl, maid, and other things of that sort...
When you get hugged by a girl, you turn into your snake form...which isn't much since you're about the same size as a normal snake. :P
Naruko - November 26, 2004 01:41 AM (GMT)
What what what?
(Anaconda size :P )
In the fruit basket quiz,I was some kid in a green shirt, fighting pose,forgot the name :huh:
Voltei - November 26, 2004 01:48 AM (GMT)
Ayame would be about...garter snake size. :lol:
That green shirt karate guy would be Kyo the Cat.
Not an official member of the Zodiac, but he's hot tempered, rude, and always fights with Yuki the Rat in order to win his place in the Zodiac.
They never seem to get along for some odd reason.
((Strange how my favorite character is Yuki ^^;; ))
Anyway, he also has one of the darker secrets out of all the Zodiac animals.
Naruko - November 26, 2004 01:50 AM (GMT)
