Arioch rummages through his room trying to find something to take care of the pain seering through his arm. He manages to locate some towels and a large basin of water which have been layed out for him. He removes his top to properly inspect the source of his torment. As he gently washes his arm he inspects it for visible wounds but is quite happy to find none. However, when he applies pressure to his arm he can easily tell it's broken by the easy movement of bones.
Arioch sighs and then scans the room. In the window is an small odd plant. Upon closer examination it turns out to be a small bamboo plant. He smiles slightly and takes one of the bamboo shafts. He then returns to the table with the basin and towels and fashions himself a makeshift sling.
Torn between being happy about his rather crafty creation and saddened about the necessity for such a thing, he goes about his routines for a few hours before attempting to get some sleep.

*Gets some shut-eye.*
After several minutes the historian returns with a very small scroll in his hands. Arioc glances over at the other desks and immediately notices that this scroll looks different than the others. Most notably, the paper is of a different type. The historian holds the scroll out before him and opens the seal on it before rolling it out on the desk in front of Arioc.
The scroll itself is noticably ancient to Arioch. He delicately handles it for fear that it might fall apart before him.
Arioch leans forward intently and reads the scroll....

Yakeru Yoni Atsui: The Burning Sands
A small glimpse by Otaku Kojiro

It is a matter of record that shortly after the 1st war with Fu Leng, Lady Shinjo and her followers, the Ki-Rin Clan, were sent by Hantei The First to explore the lands outside of the Empire. They did not return for eight hundred years. They returned with a new name, The Unicorn Clan.
As a matter of public record and a service to The Empire I enter this brief history of The Burning Sands into record to be stored in the scollhouses of Otosan Uchi. Those wishing to gather more information on this subject may enquire in person at The Unicorn Scrollhouses located in Shiro Ide.

"In the name of Lady Sun the All-Merciful, the All-Knowing, and Life-Giving Lady Sun I tell my tale. And my tale is true. As true as any other tale that has ever been told."
It has been said that this was a bleeding land, a wounded land. Those words were written by a man who had never set foot here, for all the blood from this land dried up long, long ago. It was not a bleeding land, it was a burned land, a wasteland.
It has also been said by a much wiser man than the first that the land was cursed long ago by Lady Sun, and it was only by her merciful grace that we were allowed to live. That is why we invoke her mercy with each mention of her name, so we do not draw her wrath once again as we did so long ago.
In the heart of this wasteland, this burning land, there was a city. Ah, but not just any city, but the most beautiful city in all the world; the Jewel of the Desert. It was a city built on the only river Lady Sun allowed to survive her Day of Wrath. Within this city, thousands of merchants barter over fruits, milk, silks and, of course, life-giving water. It was a city where sorcerers sold their hearts for arcane power and the children of the smokeless fire that we call the jinn can be bound with a single word. It was a city where shadows breathed and legends walked with men.
Her name was Medinat al-Salaam, the City of Peace. But everyone called her The City of One Thousand Stories.

As a matter of public record let it be known that many of the stories, histories, and other information on this gaijin land we once called home for a time is in posession of The Unicorn Clan. We would welcome those seeking knowledge on this subject, but are also quick to remind any would-be travelers that travel to The Burning Sands and beyond is forbidden by The Emporer unless special privilages are granted. Violation of this law is punishable by death.
