Title: Code of Conduct
Description: Gameplay Proceedures

Enigma Zero - September 12, 2004 08:14 AM (GMT)
Ok, so we're kicking off the 1st adventure in The Emerald Empire in under 24 hours and I thought this would be a perfect time to break down how one plays in The Emerald Empire.

Actions:
Players will be given ample chances to perform actions throughout the storyline. You may not get to do everything you want to do, but you will be given a chance in the storyline breaks to do something. The storyline will slow down and break into smaller portions in more action instense scenes. This means that while some portions may be multiple paragraphs long others(conversations being a prime example) will be broken down into much shorter portions. Please note that when you submit an action you are telling me what you would 'like to do' and not necessarily what you 'will do'. Things do not always work out the way we would like them to...just keep this in mind.

Note: Combat Actions basically come in two flavors, for now. Be certain that you keep this in mind when you are in combat.
1.
-You attack a ________.
-You hurl a fireball at a ________.
2.
-You strike a _______ in the head with your sword.
-You hurl a fireball at a ______, aiming for it's head.

Ok 1 is what we call a 'basic attack' and it is the most simple form of combat. You have less control over it's outcome, but it has a better chance of working. 2. is what we call a 'called shot'. It allows you to be more specific in your efforts, but it has a greater chance of failure. If you call the head (referred to as a 'head shot' oddly enough) then you have an even greater chance of failure...the same holds true if you try to stab something in a vital organ(heart). Be certain you know what you are doing and choose your wording correctly.

Tabletop Knowledge:
Over the years I have encountered very very few acts that irritate me enough to turn the godlike powers of being a GM directly onto a character and abuse of tabletop knowledge is probably number one on this list.

To put this simply, there are some things that your character knows in this game due to being told, learning on their own, or skills and such that their background may say they have and then there are certain bits of information that you know that your character does not know because they are in a fantasy realm and you can read all the information on these boards. Using the second type of knowledge is Forbidden in The Emerald Empire and should you do so....expect me to drop a house on you or something else horrible and probably death inducing.

Example of Proper Knowledge:
-Your character grew up on a farm so they can tell the difference between a field that has died due to a drought and one that has been torched in a battle. Using this knowledge he determines that there was a great battle in this village and can make an educated guess, based on the leaves of some of the plants, that it was pretty recent.

Example of Inproper Knowledge:
-There are two different games running. You glance over at the other game and see that they just defeated a Silverback Ogre by discovering that the gem in it's chest is the source of it's power and cutting it out will kill it. Shortly after reading this your own party runs into a Silverback Ogre and you immediately attempt to remove the jewel from it's chest(which you can't even see because of it's cloak) in an attempt to kill it. You know this information to be true....but your character has never seen this creature before... So it's WRONG.

This kind of thing also applies to other characters. You don't know the person next to you is ambidextrous unless you see them effectively use two weapons and even then you're pretty much guessing. You don't know they have any phobias unless you see them react in terror to something.

This is one of those things that I show almost no mercy in should you break it...consider this the only warning that you will recieve on the subject.

I, of course, reserve the right to make additions and such to this as I see fit, but I think we're good for now. This is just enough to get you started. As different mechanics and such are introduced into the game or necessity makes certain things necessary I will be making additions to this.
