Title: Preamble to The New Order
Description: Trust me, you want to read this one...
Enigma Zero - February 9, 2006 06:51 AM (GMT)
We live in dark times, people. Times in which even the simplest of little pleasures is tainted by those with more sinister agendas. There are harvestors and shillers around every turn and scammers hiding in every shadow.
The problem does not end there. As the forum are constantly assaulted by stupidity, indecent content, and those whose only joy in their shallow little lives is to cause psuedo-chaos on a forum and flex their poser-powers.
Indeed, my friends, these desperate times call for desperate measures. Something has to change...and change it shall.
Effectively immediately I am assuming the position of The Third Admin of Cartoon Orbit: The Complete Guide...may whatever diety you call your own have mercy on your souls, because I won't...Mwuhahahahahaa!
Ok, so now that I have that out of my system, well at least for now anyways, it's time to get down to brass taxes as they say. When I made Mod I used to joke that there was a new sheriff in town. Well guess what, kiddies, I just made Marshal.
I'm making this thread both to announce my ascension into the Admin ranks and to lightly(well as lightly as I am able) touch on some points that are either of interest or going to be put under the microscope. As a disclaimer let me state that the things I am talking about in this thread were not created as some solo project of my own doing. I had a hand in them at some point or another, but "The Higher Powers" also had a hand in their creation as well because we work togehter on things like this. These items are just things that I will be giving my newfound focus towards in the next month or so. It's kind of like Sneak Previews, a To Do List, and a State of The Union Address all balled up into one. So let's get this show on the road.
Item I: The Clans
Recently a Roll Call was held and all but 4 Established Clans bit the dust. As some of you might have noticed, the Clan Forums have always been one of my little "pet projects" and we're planning a few things to spice them up. This little display of destruction was only the beginning, but the destruction was necessary. We've carved out the dead cells from the forum and now there is room for new life to take root and grow. In the upcoming months expect to see...
-A serious revamp and clarification rules thread which will outline every single step of the process to start, operate, and maintain an Established Clan.
-Either voluntary or mandatory Clan Battles. Honestly, we're going to get some action in here one way or the other. It makes no difference to me how we play ball, but we're playing ball.
-The next step in the evolution of Clan Battles. Not to give anything away, but I'm about to unleash something that's on a competition level unlike anything you've seen in the Clan Forums. I hope it's as much fun for you all to participate in as it has been for us to put it together over the course of the last 4 months.
Item II: The List
There are those among us who believe "The Higher Powers" do nothing to protect the members here at Cartoon Orbit: The Complete Guide. Due to the inability of most members to provide anything more than their word that a person is a scammer/harvestor/shiller/nimrod. They believe that we basically sit on our thumbs and do nothing all day long. Those people are about to see how wrong they truly are...
It's been requested on multiple occasions that we keep a list naming these violations and such. In the past we've been deadset against it because it's not our job to police Orbit, but careful rethinking on the situation has lead us to slightly alter our stance on this issue.
The process of PMing a Mod/Admin with proof of violations of this nature will not change. Our stance of only focusing on people who are/were members of this forum will not change. The change is that "The List" will be published for all to see. The List is a comprehensive listing of all the scammers/harvestors/shillers that have come through our gates. It lists their known forum names, IM names, and account names. This is done purely as a warning to the membership to keep an eye out for these people in their travels. The List will also come with it's own, quite well documented, set of rules and such to allow the membership to make additions. Keep in mind, you have to be able to prove that the information you provide as an update to The List is both valid and true.
Item III: The Newbie Forums:
This one's pretty self explanatory. The new forums will pretty much house all the rules, clarifications, as well as threads and links to threads to teach the new member to these forums how we do things here and speed up the process of them going from clueless to being able to fully enjoy all that we have to offer here at Cartoon Orbit: The complete Guide. Of course, these forums will not be solely for newbies due to some of the content there being beneficial to all members, but it makes for a nice 1st step for someone to start their journey into our world.
Once these forums are live anyone wanting to make contributions such as guides and things like that are encouraged to do so and PM their finished product to a Mod/Admin for review. If approved, of course, the author will be permitted to create their thread and take full credit for their work.
Item IV: Graphical Showdown:
Credit to gymnast22
Living proof that if an idea from the membership is good enough then it can become a reality, Graphical Showdown will be a monthly art contest open to all members. I will MC this particular project myself and, similiar to the Graphical Exercises, I will present a project for that particular month. The winner of each month will recieve the following...
-The option of having their User Title changed to "Graphical Showdown Winner <Month><Year>(if they are unable to do so themselves).
-A small, yet completely undesigned as of this post, award to post in their Sig.
-Their winning piece will be put on display in the winners thread for this contest and will accompany a link to their art thread. If the winner has a Deviantart account, their own personal art page, or something of this nature then a link to that will appear there as well.
-Sometimes there will be additional benefits to winning this contest, but those will be outlined on a per project basis.
Unlike most contests we have here, Graphical Showdown is not so much about winning huge prizes and such. Instead, it focuses more on recognizing the artistic talents of the people who use these forums...and it comes with some nice bragging rights. ;)
Item V: Cracking The Whip
Those of you who even remotely know me on these forums should have seen this one coming. Rules are the necessary evil for a forum like this. They are the Order that protects the other members from the harsher elements found outside of these forums and they are the reason by which we can all come here and enjoy a nice, friendly, and an almost stupid-free environment.
Rules are not, however, unchanging. What worked well up until a point only worked up until a point. When that point comes to pass then it's the responsibility of "The Higher Powers" to update/edit/clarify/adjust those rules and make them a more viable solution to correct the problems of that time...and that's exactly what we're going to be doing here in the very near future.
As users of these forums you've pretty much all agreed to adhere to the rules by which we choose to govern these forums. The reason I am listing this item specifically at this time is as a warning to you all. Changes are coming and it's the responsibility of us all to read when these things occur and be aware of the changes that are taking place. There are currently no plans to do anything crazy and the majority of these changes will simply be us expanding and going into greater detail on existing rules, but you'll need to pay attention, none the less, and be aware when these things come to pass.
To a large portion of you this simple suggestion serves no real purpose because you would have read these things as they occurred, would have made the required adjustments, and moved on without a care in the world. There are, however, some people who can't seem to do the simplest things like count, read, or propoerly use a keyboard...that's who this little warning is for mainly. ;)
Closing:
These five things are but the tip of the proverbial iceberg on what's coming for Cartoon Orbit: The Complete Guide in the coming year. We have much more in store for you all like contests, the return of some older features, and many other suprises. So strap in, keep your eyes peeled, and enjoy the ride....because it's defintely going to be a ride. ;)
Oh, and one more little item. Considering my new title it's natural that some people will wish to congratulate me. I am quite appreciative of such a gesture and feel free to do so in this thread....but be forwarned, I destest suckups and panders so anyone who decides to take it upon themselves to PM me with an obvious "You're the best<suckup><suckup>. I wish I was as smart as you are<suckup><suckup>....," will find themselves on the wrong side of a one week suspension.

Hojo - February 10, 2006 01:24 AM (GMT)
First of all, congrats
Secondly, your Eisenhower quote (May God have mercy on my enemies, because I won't) made me tingle. I love that quote...and Eisenhower
This is good news. You are, without any offense intended to CV or Creator, the most active of admins, and are therefore capable of responding to admin-related things much more quickly. You are also ruthless, which means the Iron Fist that is the TCG Rules and Regulations will become the Commandments of members. No. Member. Is. Safe.
With all sucking up aside, change has been needed around here, and I personally can not think of a better person to bring such change. <Salutes> I am ready to serve, sir.

Being a mod is being somewhat in charge without having the feeling of being in charge. You share a certain amount of responsibilities with the rest of the staff members and depending on how active the board is and how many active staff members there are on that board will determine what you have to do, how much of it you have to do, and when it needs to get done by. Moderators don't have as much power as they brag to have, usually a moderator who mistreats the board's members is trying to boost their feeling of being an actual staff member and to feel that they actually have power (a.k.a a bully with minor authority). Unfortunately on most boards, arguing with a mod is discouraged so people are forced to deal with it. Of course this comes out of the experience I have had as both a mod and a regular member, but things might be a little different here ;)
By the way Enigma congratulations on your new position, I've only been here for less than a week and I can already see how you deserve it.

WOW, asserting power onto oneself, this is a momentous occasion indeed. What has caused this instance to occur? Is it the fact that most of the Admins aren't really on very much, and there are alot of issues that require their attention, or possibly the fact that they have come to you in need of your assistance..... Either way, YOU WILL ALL BE OWNED by Enigma from now on. :D
Enigma Zero - March 23, 2006 02:18 AM (GMT)
Honestly, it's all just a joke to pass the time. Nothing much has changed here other than the amount of power I can unleash on the forces of evil...and trust me, they're the ones feeling it.
