Title: No place for anime on TV
Mofudos - October 27, 2005 10:56 PM (GMT)
I mean no place for dramas, comedy and such.
I was thinking today how I wish Honey & Clover would be licensed and put on TV. Mainly because it could bring in a whole new type of audience and shows something that your typical anime viewer doesn't get the opportunity to see.
That when it struck me, who would possibly air it? I mean, 90% of the stuff shown on TV is all action Whatever isn't action is never succesful. he leading group is Turner, and have you seen them show anything but shonen?
I believe that what it takes is for some leading network to get bold and just air it. If the correct advertisment was done, then it could be widly succesful.
Of course I don't mean just H&C, but anything that requires an attention span and thinking to enjoy. Shows such as H&C, Fantastic Children, Kimagure Orange Road, and His and Her Circumstances.
What do you think about this?

Mofudos, I understand where you are coming from, but as you said shows like that require attention and thinking. Todays young audience has no interest in thinking, they want action or fun.
I have a 4 year old that once liked bob the builder, but he got bored with it because there was more talking going on than anything else and he lost interest. But show him dragon tales with singing, dancing and playing and he's glued to the tv.
TV for young people is about visuals, sounds and lots of things going on on the screen and that's what keeps their attention. :)
Shows like H&C would not get enough ratings to be worth the networks time. Take a look at the commercials made for kids. There's plenty of colors and action going on and they know it gets the childs attention. :)

Don't double-post. There's an "edit" button.
Nothing big, just to let you know...

I don't really like anime, I used to watch a show called Yu Yu Hakusho on cartoon network, but I did not watch it for the anime, I just watched it for the action and good storyline. Ruroni Kenshin was also good for that reason. I have occasionally watched an anime movie, actually I have only watch two, Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke. That's the only anime related stuff I have watched, but now I don't watch any of those shows, and the time span in which I watch Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke was a bit less than a year.

I was actually thinking that it should be shown on a more mainstream station such as Lifetime or the Superstation.
You know that TCM is showing all nine Gihbli films commercial free.

You also have to consider that in America, animated movies are considered a kids genre. In Japan, animation is considered more of a universal art with shows for kids, teens, and adults alike.

Once again, not all animes are for children.
picklesdynasty - October 28, 2005 09:58 PM (GMT)
But like you said, in america cartoons are considered childish. but I get your point. I have no problem with adults watching cartoon. I watch family guy with my dad. It was just funny. Anime on lifetime, you dont find that funny. :ninja:

Well I was talking about opening anime up to a larger audiences, thats similar to what TV Tokyo did with their "Noitamina" lineup( read it backwards). They were attempting to send anime to a group of people who normally woudnt watch anime. It worked.
