Malach - April 10, 2004 06:44 PM (GMT)
I got the 2 disc set for my birthday, and watched it for the first time in about 15 years. What an amazing movie!

Taz L. Gonzales - April 10, 2004 07:58 PM (GMT)
never even heard of it. wood u reccomend it??

Malach - April 11, 2004 01:34 AM (GMT)
If you have two hours, and are willing to sit through some very deep anime, sure.

Akira was made from a comic back in 1987. It revolutionized anime, and animation in general (the way Toy Story did for Computer animation). It's cross of Blade Runner, 2001 A Space Odyssey, and maybe Witchhunter Robin.

TOYI1SOCCER - April 11, 2004 02:00 AM (GMT)
I am trading some anime for Akira.. I hope is good, My Korian friend recomended it B)

Malach - April 11, 2004 02:05 AM (GMT)
Again, it's very deep, beautifully animated, very amazing. It can be hard to follow and agravating to those who don't like to think during movies.

TOYI1SOCCER - April 11, 2004 02:07 AM (GMT)
I love deep anime, You know that.. go far into the character thinkingand the way they act, their personalities, etc etc

Malach - April 11, 2004 02:11 AM (GMT)
Yes, I wasn't refering to anyone specifically with the last post, just a general comment.

I think you will love it.

Althought many people have many different opinions on anime there is one thing that most people agree...You have not seen anime until you have watched Akira. I was fortunate enough to see Akira in a theatre when it originally hit in the US and I was blown away. The few scattered anime shows at the time did not even come close to this...it actually makes you think.

It wasn't until years later when I bought the special edition DVD (the one in the cool, but completely useless metal case) that you realize how much effort went into this movie. It was an obsession given life. Examples from the featuretes include (might be off a lil here, it has been a few months)...

A scene with a guy who is using a 1mm brush to individually paint the windows in every building in a background scene.

The fact that parts of the score used an ancient japanese instrument that is considered to be worthless unless it is at least 400 years old.

The amount of work and attention to detail in this film make Akira a masterpiece. It's literally years ahead of anything made at that time. My only complaints are this.

In the remastered DVDs they redubbed it and I found the new voices lacked the humor/emotion of the old ones...course I usually watch anime with subtitles.

The manga was so amazing that, although the movie is awesome, it cannot completely encompass just how amazing the story of Akira is. I recommend you watch the movie and then find the mangas. I know Borders, and other book stores like it, sell the manga books for Akira....it's worth the purchase.

Reading Rainbow Momment:
If you liked Akira here are a few other things you shoudl check out..

Witch Hunter Robin
Neon Genesis Evangelion

It will be amazing. It's long, be careful.

super saiyan - May 17, 2004 09:55 PM (GMT)
i saw it has some sexual stuff but its good and long

Malach - May 18, 2004 01:02 AM (GMT)
Brief Nudity, much blood/gore, and also profanity, but it is rated R.

TOYI1SOCCER - May 18, 2004 03:57 AM (GMT)
well I don't care too much about brief nudity, çause St seiya also has some Saint naked figures, We will see about everything else, I want to pay close attention to the character's personality ( that is why I prefer japanese animation over american). :)

super saiyan - May 18, 2004 08:26 PM (GMT)
exactly what i mean because american anime show no blood gore sexual whatever

Malach - May 19, 2004 12:22 AM (GMT)
The animation is extremely good, better than most anime and it is 15 years old.

Nobody, not even Disney, puts this kind of attention to detail in their work anymore. Akira will remain a benchmark in any format of animation for many many years to come...if it is ever dethroned.

Crystal Velvet - May 19, 2004 08:42 AM (GMT)
Akira was one of the first anime that I ever saw, and I have to say that it's changed the way I look at teddy bears forever. ;) Errm... on a more serious note, I haven't seen the new special edition - I think they re-subbed and re-dubbed it in addition to all the technical enhancements, right? It's been ages, but I enjoyed the sci-fi aspects of the plot and the depth it provided. During a time when I had encountered very few anime, it confirmed my belief that anime was something I could get into - because it induces thought and reflection.

Malach - May 19, 2004 12:38 PM (GMT)
Sorry, I was approximating . .

TOYI1SOCCER - May 19, 2004 01:34 PM (GMT)
I bet I will love it 'cause St seiya is about the same age and to me is a very deep anime too, most people don't understand it, 'cause they think Saints cry too much ( that is one of the main reasons I love it) because there is a break of feelings betwen Strong enough to kill and strong enough to cry :ninja:

Malach - May 19, 2004 01:55 PM (GMT)
Akira is less emotional, and in a way more disturbing. Not to give away the plot, but it is about gentic experimetation, playing god, and is very Bladerunner meets 2001 a Space Odyssey.

TOYI1SOCCER - May 19, 2004 04:48 PM (GMT)
as longest is close to reality .. I will find the juicy out of it :)

Malach - May 19, 2004 05:28 PM (GMT)
It close to reality if it was 2030.

TOYI1SOCCER - May 19, 2004 06:32 PM (GMT)
oh so is kind of future oriented.. cool I see what we can find :P

Malach - May 24, 2004 01:17 PM (GMT)

TOYI1SOCCER - May 24, 2004 02:21 PM (GMT)
