Title: Firefox bittorent client extension?

C00L - December 16, 2006 09:41 PM (GMT)
Is there any bittorrent client addon/extension for firefox? I've been searching but can't find anything other than search toolbars for torrent sites.

If not I think I have found my next project to work on, even though I have no experience writing firefox extensions :)

Or you could just use utorrent, programs that try to do too many things at once just feel clumsy. Let your browser browse and your torrent program, erm, download torrents :P

Hello, long time no see. Are you planing on coming again more regularly as in the old times or are you just saying hi? Anyway nice to see you again.

Glad to see you post again TheHawgMaster :)

But I don't really like utorrent, it's closed source so I can't go in and tinker with it. Plus I think browsers should in addition to browsing the web also be able to download files including torrents, like Opera does.

Woa, THM, havn't seen you in all but a few eons. :D And c00l, you've been a bit reclusive too.

Anyway, sounds like a good idea, but the only thing I don't like about tieing the browser and a large downloader together is that browsers do get closed quite frequently (due to both crashes and the users). And it would get annoying having to constantly be either bugged about closing it or resuming the downloads all the time. Still, it's a neat idea.

Actually, instead of an extension inside of a browser, how about making a plugin for both firefox and an existing torrent client that allows them to interface with each other? :ph43r:

I'll probably be around a bit, I don't program much anymore but I just missed this place :P

Anyway, the main problem is just the same as with the one in opera: utorrent occupies about 8mb of RAM, Opera uses about 60mb usually, which one do you want running in the background all the time? The same thing would be true in Firefox, besides, browsers crash more :P

I didn't think about this. Firefox is a memory hog as it is, adding a torrent extension definatly wouldn't help this.
