SYDNEY BRISTOW
Repercussions – Episode 5
“I Have So Many Questions!”

Sydney is running pell-mell through a park to a phone booth. She dials a number and we hear that it is secure line. She gets Jack on the phone and tells him to activate the transmitter. She tells him that she put it on Vaughn who is probably bleeding to death. (I knew she did that-check last week’s column). Jack notifies Marshall, telling him to activate the signal and send Weiss. He wants to know what happened and she tells him, ending with…”Dad, I stabbed him myself.”

The scene shifts as we see a van stop behind an alley where Sark is waiting. Simon Walker and Javier Perez step out and walk to Sark. Sark opens the brief case to show a huge amount of bills, probably English pounds or Euro dollars he is using to pay off Simon and his team. Simon gives Sark the bio-weapon. Sark compliments him on the job. Simon says, “Even a thief can take pride in his work, Mr. Sark.”

Sydney gets back to the hotel and enters Simon’s room. She finds the bio-weapon vial gone, and then hears Simon. When he enters, he sees clothes leading to the shower. It’s Julia. He seems pleased. (What man wouldn’t?) He wants to know where she was and she tells him that she needed some air. “It’s not every night I kill someone in the CIA.” Simon tells her the Covenant picked up the biological weapon. They had moved up the schedule. He gives her several packets of money. He will be in contact with her again when a new job surfaces.

Weiss and a team of men find Vaughn almost dead, but still breathing. They rush him to a waiting CIA plane.

We next see Lauren with Vaughn who is in the hospital. All kinds of monitors are going. He is not awake, but probably in a coma. Sydney has come to the hospital to see him when she meets Lauren in the hall. She asks how he is and Lauren tells her that he’s not good. He has a collapsed lung with complications. Sydney feels terrible and tells Lauren exactly what happened and why. “You stabbed him?” Lauren is horrified, not listening to what Sydney was saying. Just then, their beepers go off and they are called to headquarters.

There they learn that the Covenant has combined the Ebola virus with the biological weapon. A plane sprayed the fluid over a prison in the Urals, (These are the mountains located in Georgia now a commonwealth state of Russia) where three hundred guards and five hundred prisoners were killed, except for one man, Bomani, an African gun runner, Lauren tells Sydney that Sloane had turned him in and that it played a major part in obtaining Sloane his pardon.(OK correct me if I’m wrong, but I definitely heard that Sloane gave the CIA enough information to track down over 2 dozen terrorist groups and I thought that was the main reason he got the pardon.) Marshall explains the Covenant tailored the Ebola virus with the biological weapon to kill everyone at the prison except the prisoner whose DNA was encoded into the virus. Sydney and Lauren are sent to see Sloane in Mexico City where he is attending a conference.

After the briefing, Sydney and Jack talk about her and Lauren’s meeting. He tells her that when someone’s spouse is critically injured or killed, rational thought takes time. Was he remembering when he thought Laura had been killed and how irrational he had been? Possibly. He tells Sydney that he plans to get a hold of Simon by providing him job spec. He wants Walker so they both can confront him for some answers to Sydney’s missing two years.

Lauren and Sydney are on a plane together for Mexico City. Sydney again expresses her sorrow of Vaughn’s injury. Lauren says she wants to be honest with Sydney, saying “I felt threatened!” referring to Sydney’s return after missing for two years. Now she wants her to ask for a transfer to another field office. Sydney tells her that she knows only the people at the CIA office, which now include all of her friends and her Dad. Lauren says if she doesn’t ask for one, she’ll get the NSC to pressure the CIA. Sydney, devastated, asks Lauren if this is a threat. And how she says it sounds as though she wouldn’t hesitate herself to retaliate.

The scene shifts to Paris where Jack meets with Simon Walker to hire him for a job. He says the Japanese have developed a fuel cell that he wants him to steal. Simon asks how he found him. Jack says he was told to call by Julia Thorne. Simon says he will contact him for the meet with the amount of money he is to bring. They separate. Javier Perez photographs Jack.

Lauren and Sydney are checking in at the conference, when the receptionist tells them that they are in luck. “There’s Mr. Sloane now.” The two women turn to see Sloane approaching with a bodyguard and he waves to them. Just then, a man, who had been close by the two women, pulls out a shotgun, aiming it at Sloane and firing. The blast smashes out the window. He shoots again and kills the bodyguard. Sark jumps out of the van and kills Sloane’s driver. The man with the shotgun grabs Sloane and pushes him into a van where Bomani is also sitting. Sark jumps into the front seat. Sydney races outside, pulling her gun and killing the man with the shotgun and then follows the van, firing at it uselessly. (I hope Sydney had permission to bring a gun into Mexico!)

Just then, Lauren drives up in a car. “Get in.” She yells. Sydney does a surprised double take, and then jumps inside. Lauren follows the van careening down the street.

“Have you done this before,” asks Sydney?
“I cross-trained at the Farm.” Lauren alludes to the place where CIA agents are trained.
“Are you field rated?” Sydney asks.
“No!” Lauren’s voice drops as we see she is disappointed. Remember, Sloane mentioned her father, the Senator, had arranged for her to be with the NSC.

Chasing the van, swerving through traffic, we can see Lauren is well schooled in driving as well as excited. Just then, Sydney’s cell rings. It’s Simon Walker. He tells her he has a job for her, if she’s interested which she is. Meanwhile Lauren’s looking at her as though she were nuts to be making conversation. “Can’t you do this later?” Sydney tells Simon she’ll call him back. That was cool.

Sydney tells Lauren to pay attention to the van as she sees Lauren glancing in the rear view mirror. Lauren tells her someone’s on her tail. Sark has given orders for the rear vehicle to get rid of them. Gunfire erupts to blow out the rear window, confirming Lauren’s fear. Sydney yells for her to step on the brakes. The car does a 360 degree turn and Sydney fires at the car following. The driver is dead and the car ends up in the side of another van. Lauren manages to evade several cars until the kidnap van darts into an alley and a car coming from the opposite direction forestalls them.

Lauren’s response, “Damn it!”

Darn it! Those women are good! Let’s hope they get to work together some other time during the season. Let’s get Lauren field rated. Did her father really step in and get her transferred to the NSC? I’ll just bet he did. However, Lauren’s excitement at the chase was real. I think she was having FUN and pumped up!

Now we see Sloane tied up and Bomani talking to him, telling him he thought they had an association, but evidently not. He tells Sloane a story about his mother and brother and ends it with “I promised myself I would never be powerless again.” Sloane responds that he is now in a position that “I could help you become more powerful than ever!” Bomani stares at him, then slashes down with the machete he held in his hand. (Oops, bet he missed!)

Back at CIA headquarters, at the briefing room, they discuss what might have gone on with Sloane’s kidnapping. Sydney’s response: “Sloane is either dead or in incredible pain.” It’s obvious she hates that man and cares not what happens to him. Lauren tells Sydney she is sorry about asking her to transfer. (I have a hunch that she loved being on the job with Sydney and doesn’t want to lose the contact in case it happens again. Why should Vaughn have all the fun?)

We are in Vaughn’s room and Sydney is with him when he wakes. He says, “You stabbed me!”
Sydney responds, “I was so afraid I lost you.” She kisses him three times, softly and sweetly. He kisses her back.
Then he jerks as though stabbed as she says, “How could you do this to me?” Sydney says with deadly sweetness.
He opens his eyes to see Lauren, who is happy that he is out of the coma.

Well, I don’t know why that scene was put in unless it was to make all the little shippers happy to see them kiss and to give Vaughn such a shock it would bring him out of the coma. It didn’t advance the plot one bit. Of course, if my former lover had stabbed me again, I probably would have awakened also.

Marshall and Sydney talk about Vaughn’s coming out of the coma. Lauren tells Sydney she’s sorry about their earlier conversation and that it wasn’t her place to say that. Sydney says she appreciates it. Dixon interrupts; telling them Sloane has been found and taken to the Riverside office. He wants to see Sydney.

When Sydney arrives, Lauren is already there. Sloane tells Sydney he appreciates the effort she made to rescue him. He tells her that Bomani let him go when he told him that the Japanese Yakuza have developed the first AI computer virus which could go in and rewrite programs to cause markets to crash, destroy banks, bring military installations to a halt and more. He wants her to disable, but not destroy it otherwise Sark will know he spilled “the beans.” Sydney looks at him incredulously. Sloane is telling them he is now a member of the Covenant and is in a position to be a double agent: working for the Covenant, but loyal to the CIA.

“I’m telling you the God’s honest truth,” he says, indicating Marshall will verify it as he is video-taping him at the same time. Marshall confirms he isn’t lying. Sydney retorts, that he’s probably pulled off the con job of the century. Weiss then says, “Should we trust him?” (There’s that word again—trust.)

Sydney is the only one not convinced Sloane is a good guy, trying to amend for his past and in danger, if they use him as he has offered. I loved her statement: “The fact Arvin Sloane is holding all the cards in this scenario is giving me a migraine.” It’s interesting that this season we are seeing Sloane in the same position as Irina in the second season and this time Sydney is playing Jack’s role as he is busily engaged in trying to learn more about Sydney’s disappearance.

Dixon tells everyone Marshall will re-write the program. Marshall says that he needs to see the code and has to go on another mission with Sydney. (Well we know he’s dotty over her awesome ability. I think going with Sydney would be the only reason he’d get back on an airplane.) However, in order to get in the back room, he has to be caught cheating. He gives a demonstration on his ability to count cards. Weiss is impressed. Marshall says “I had too much free time in high school.”

Meanwhile, Jack meets with Simon and transfers money to his account. The phone rings and Perez tells Simon he’s being set up, that Jack is CIA and Julia is really Sydney Bristow, his daughter. Simon gets the money, then he taunts Jack with the fact the Julia was a sexual degenerate (“On a scale of one to ten, she was a seventeen!). Jack does not take the bait. Simon turns as Jack leaves and before he can shoot Jack, he takes a bullet himself in the chest from Jack. (“You shot me!!”) He tells Simon that he will die if he does not tell him about Julia. Simon tries to fire his gun, but Jack kills him without blinking an eye. That Jack is no one to fool around with when it comes to his daughter.

In Osaka at the Casino, Marshall does indeed win a lot of money, making the Japanese running the casino suspicious enough to “invite” Sydney and Marshall to the back room, where with three quick blows, Sydney knocks out the guard. A tranc from Marshall’s western bolo tie takes the casino boss out. Marshall gets into the computer, copies the virus as Sydney watches Sark and Bomani enter the casino killing two men on their way to the office. The two men enter and Sark gets the code. Sydney and Marshall are hiding under the desk. They leave.

Just a funny note: In the casino Marshall hits Sydney in the butt with his hand and the look she gave him was hilarious.

The final scenes take place in the hospital. Lauren, Sydney and Weiss are talking to Vaughn chatting about old times. Weiss is lamenting the fact that he didn’t make it big when he was trying to impress his date, April First, by playing a guitar. (Now that’s a funny name.) He did however make out with her in his car later. Sydney leaves with Weiss, but stops to return to get her jacket. At the door, she sees Lauren and Vaughn together. Sadly she turns and leaves.

Here are a few questions for you to think about:

Do you think Sydney is going to like Lauren enough to feel bad if Vaughn makes a pass at her? (For instance, she saw a different side of Lauren during the chase. She seemed fearless in the chase.)

Was Jack right to kill Simon—or should he have wounded him? After all, Simon was a key to Julia/Sydney’s past two years. Remember, Sydney killed the doctor who told her she was his best student. Two key players—two dead players and still not a clue!

Sarks’ role this season is puzzling. Is he working for the Covenant now? Or is he working for himself? I thought the Covenant wanted his millions in gold, not particularly him. I’m not sure I like his crew cut, but it’s understandable since he was in prison in the opening.

Sloane’s offer to be a double agent was ironic. Do you believe him? Is he trustworthy? Does he now take Irina’s role from last season? I think he needs to be interviewed by Dr. Barnett.

In the promos, we saw Francie/Allison. So does that mean those three bullet holes didn’t kill her? I didn’t think so in my last column on The Telling and then I’d heard they hadn’t re- signed Merrin Dungey for this season. Oh damn, I think we were being “Alias-ed” All the regulars not signed for this season are coming back as “guest stars” including Lena Olin and Bradley Cooper.

well I absolutly loved this episode, I must say I thought it was the best one this season. As always the little summary column is just a great reminder and pretty much just as good as the episode.

something like that hasn't happened before, either way it was still surprising and who knew Lauren could drive like that. But I did think they gave up a little too easy on the chase, even though they were blocked by a truck, they could've gotten out of the truck and chased the van some more.

no absolutly not, Jack was right to kill Simon, I would've killed Simon myself, those comments were pretty disgusting. they'll probably find some other criminal who can answer questions about Sydney's past 2 years.

Anyways great job as usual, and i'll be looking foward to the next one.

I loved this episode too, if only cause of "Cowboy Marshall!!!" :D :P
He was SOO hilarious, especially when he smacked Sydney's behind and she glared at him like 'oh..you're gonna pay for that!'. ROTFLMAO!!!
Okay, now with the Q's:
I do think Sydney would feel bad about Vaughn making a pass at her because of the growing respect she has for Lauren....but AFTER the fact!! It'll take a bit for her logical sense to kick in. (I mean, hello? MV pass at you? Yeah, little bit of daydreaming involved! :P )
I don't think Jack should have killed him only for the fact that he was the only link to Sydney's 2 year absence....in all other aspects, kill the b*s*a*d!! He is evil...and no touchy Sydney, she's Vaughn's!! :ph43r:
I still not sure on the Sark front...but I do enjoy the new look! :P I believe he couldn't really work for himself, that he'd always need someone as a boss, so I think he IS working for somebody, but unsure if it's for the Covenent or not..*shrug*
Heck no!! I don't believe Sloane for a minute!! I think he's totally playing everyone, except Sydney...she's correct on not trusting him....but the whole 'double agent' thing  he's so full of s*** with that!! He's sooo going to play both sides against eachother and fall back into the evil side where he's always been!!!
And the whole Francie/Allison come back...yeah..I think that she DID survive that shooting with Sydney, the shots were at both her shoulders and her arm...totally able to recover from those wounds....but maybe some scaring or lasting problems because of it...I can't wait to see next weeks to see what Sydney's reaction is to bumping into her again!!! :reallyexcited: It's going to be great!!! :D
Until next time y'all!!! :innocent:

I'm not sure I'd appreciate an ex-lover whose now married, making a pass at me! I certainly wouldn't be happy about it, especially since I'm working with his spouse! I consider it bad manners and the rest...gauche! I think I would slap him if he did it.

Yeah, but who? THe Covenant? Sloane? or...his last boss, Irina Derevko!??

still too many questions but that is what makes this show so much fun to watch

unlike moronic shows where you sit and talk on the phone or do a crossword puzle this one- you miss a minute and you are lost

I loved jacks reaction to the whole julia simon story- see my short fic "burn" here at CIA
(little self prom)

I think syd and lauren will become friends and there will be a triangle complicated by many outside factors and I wonder if we shall get another overprotective father a la jack - in senator reed.

time will tell and it will be mind blowing

Sounds a little like Jack vs Irina and Sydney. This time it's the Senator vs Sydney and Lauren...if it happens

She said that just cuz she knew it would make Jack happy!

It isn't euro dollars, it's just euros and they were Euros :) :)

Ain't that cute! ^_^

That was TOTALLY cool! I loved seeing Syd and Lauren like that. See, they get on well when they have something other than Vaughn on their minds!

QUOTE
I think she was having FUN and pumped up!
She was totally having fun! And it was great to see her outside of the pathetic role she's stuck in with Vaughn.

QUOTE
Bomani stares at him, then slashes down with the machete he held in his hand. (Oops, bet he missed!)
Yeah, but not before he punced Sloane across the head :D

QUOTE
“Sloane is either dead or in incredible pain.”
Pity we know he doesn't die :(

QUOTE
I have a hunch that she loved being on the job with Sydney and doesn’t want to lose the contact in case it happens again.
And I think that she realises just how big of an asset Syd is to their division!!!

Well, I don’t know why that scene was put in unless it was to make all the little shippers happy to see them kiss and to give Vaughn such a shock it would bring him out of the coma.
Hahahhahahaha! It was probably all those shippers...it isn't safe for JJ after dark anymore!

QUOTE
Sloane is telling them he is now a member of the Covenant and is in a position to be a double agent: working for the Covenant, but loyal to the CIA.
How about....no...he's spying on the CIA...AGAIN!!!! Besides, he hates the CIA, he made that very clear 1,000,000years ago when he started SD-6.

QUOTE
There’s that word again—trust
dum dum dum ...

QUOTE

hehehehehehehe...I can feel a wallpaper coming on with this quote :)

That's right...and where is Irina now, hmmmm???

QUOTE

I betcha Carrie couldn't even get Marshall on a plane!

QUOTE
Simon tries to fire his gun, but Jack kills him without blinking an eye.
So much for his usefulness *rolleyes*

QUOTE
Just a funny note: In the casino Marshall hits Sydney in the butt with his hand and the look she gave him was hilarious.
I think he was getting a little too into character! *giggle*

Yay!!! My favourite part of the lesson!!!

QUOTE
Do you think Sydney is going to like Lauren enough to feel bad if Vaughn makes a pass at her? (For instance, she saw a different side of Lauren during the chase. She seemed fearless in the chase.)
I think she already feels bad, because she has MORALS. I think somebody should explain what those are to Vaughn.

QUOTE
Was Jack right to kill Simon—or should he have wounded him? After all, Simon was a key to Julia/Sydney’s past two years. Remember, Sydney killed the doctor who told her she was his best student. Two key players—two dead players and still not a clue!
I'm going to step out of Alias for a minute, and say that I hate JJ for doing this to us!!!! AAAARGHHHHH!!!! Now he better watch out for me AND the shippers....

QUOTE
Sarks’ role this season is puzzling. Is he working for the Covenant now? Or is he working for himself? I thought the Covenant wanted his millions in gold, not particularly him. I’m not sure I like his crew cut, but it’s understandable since he was in prison in the opening.
Sark is always working for himself. Simon and Julia were all freelancers...but if the Covenant can give Sark what he wants, why not join them?

QUOTE
Sloane’s offer to be a double agent was ironic. Do you believe him? Is he trustworthy? Does he now take Irina’s role from last season? I think he needs to be interviewed by Dr. Barnett.
I think he needs to be locked up!!! He's ARVIN freakin SLOANE!!! He is not trustworthy, he was never trustworthy, and the fact that he's holding all the cards is giving ME a migrane!

Wilbert!!! Yay...guest star or not, he's still my fav :D and I didn't see the previews, so can't say on F-France/Frallison.

Great column again! I like the comments you throw into the summary :) Can't wait till next week when I can read it again!!!!
