Disturbing the peace

Chapter 1

“Two years”, she yelled.

Vaughn tried to explain but she wouldn’t let him.

“And you decided to marry someone else?” she said.

“Sydney, please let me explain”.

“No, I understand perfectly, you don’t have to explain anything, now just go, leave me alone” she yelled again.

“Syd, look, it’s not as it seems”. He yelled back at her.

“I think it is Vaughn, now please just leave”. She went back to her calm voice.

“I’ll notify you when the plane gets here”. He said as he got up and walked out of the room with no response from her.

She started crying to herself, just thinking how he could do this to her.

In the other room Vaughn sat down and picked up the paper from Brasilia that he had brought with him just before Kendal called. He didn’t seem interested enough to read it so he put it back down.

Vaughn took the ring off his finger and threw it in the garbage can nearby. How could she not want to listen to the truth he thought to himself.

-------------------

Irina and Jack sat together on a plane handcuffed to each other.

“How’s your knee?” he asked.

“Fine it’s just a flesh wound”. She responded.

-------------------

“We’ve lost sloane, do you have any idea where he could be?’ asked Kendal.

“Two years is a long time, it’s hard to keep track of a man like that”.

“You didn’t answer my question Mr.Sark”. He said with slight anger.

“I wouldn’t have gladly helped you out, but I really don’t know”. Sark responded.

Kendal walked away with fury as the gates closed behind him. Sark had a slight smirk on his face and went to sit on his uncomfortable bunk.

Chapter 2

72 hours earlier

Three men dressed in black with their guns in their hands knocked down the front door and entered the house.

Searching through the house, they finally found what they were looking for.

They grabbed Sydney and carried her out to the van. One man was still in the house looking for Freplica’s pulse, but there was none.

He then went to find Will, stiched and bandaged him and left the house. The men carefully put Sydney in the van and got in themselves.

The driver got his cell phone dialed a number and said “we got her”.

“Good, what about the others?” a voice replied.

“The man will be fine”. Said the driver nervously.

“And the asset?”

“There is no use for her anymore, her story is over”. He said while driving away slowly.

“Alright notify me when your task is done” the voice said calmly.

“Yes, sir” he said, hung up and drove off.

----------------

Kendal walked up to jack who was sitting at his desk staring at his computer screen.

“Any news” he asked.

“Not yet” jack responded.

“Do you know where your daughter is, she should have been here three hours ago”. He said getting angry.

“No, I was wondering myself, would you like me to go check on her?”

“Yes, and notify us when you find her”. Kendal said and walked away.

Jack grabbed his coat and keys and headed for his car, but Vaughn stopped him in the hallway.

“Where’s Syd?” he asked.

“I thought maybe you would know” Jack said.

“No, but I’ll go check on her”.

“Don’t, I’m on my way to her house right now” he said getting a little angry.

“I think I should go instead”. Said Vaughn.

“Look, I know you’d rather go, but I’m still her father and I’m going”. Jack responded, slowly walking his way around Vaughn.

“Wait” Vaughn yelled.

“Goodbye Mr. Vaughn”. He said, as he stormed out of the building and got into his car.

Vaughn wanted to go after him, but Dixon stopped him and said Kendal wanted to see them right away.

-------------------

They walked into the debriefing room where Kendal was waiting for them with Marshall and Carrie.

“Alright, now that we’re all here let’s get started”. Said Kendal but Vaughn was a little confused.

“Shouldn’t Sydney and Jack be here?” he asked.

“They’re not going on this mission, we need them here. Marshal”. He said.

“Okay, so we currently received some Intel from Irina, yeah I know surprise to me to”, “But it gave some information as to where sloane would be picking up one of his last Rambaldi pieces”.

“Now, I know you’re probably wondering how we got this information, which I’ll tell you, through Sydney’s e-mail”. Marshal said finishing his speech.

“You went through her e-mail” Vaughn said angrily.

“Sorry” Marshal said.

“Don’t be marshal, it’s our job Mr. Vaughn”. Kendal responded and went on.

“Your mission is to find the missing piece before Sloane does and bring it back here, Vaughn, you and Carrie will be disguised as man and wife, you’ll be wearing these rings which are cameras, so that we can follow you every move from here”. He said and went on.

“Dixon, you’ll go with them as their bodyguard, because Vaughn is supposedly from a rich family and thinks he has some stalkers”. With taking one breath, he went on.

“You three will fly first class to Brasilia, find a hotel, and get prepared for your mission”.

“Your plane leaves in two hours” He finished and walked out of the room, Dixon did too and went home to gather some stuff.

As Carrie walked out of the room, she blew Marshal a kiss, he caught it on his check smiling. Then he turned to Vaughn.

“I’m sorry, I really didn’t want to go through her e-mail, I know it’s personal, but Kendal” marshal said, before he could finish Vaughn cut him off.

“It’s okay, I know it’s not your fault” said Vaughn. Both of them walked out of the room and headed down the hallway.

“By the way Santa Barbara sounds nice” marshal said hoping Vaughn wouldn’t get mad, but Vaughn laughed lightly.

“Thanks, we’ll be sure to send you a postcard” he said and walked to his car. Marshal, smiling, went back to his desk.

Chapter 3

The van sped down the highway, and then took the exit toward the airport, once there; they carried Sydney onto an airplane.

The driver got out his phone and called his employer again while walking onto the airplane.

“What is it this time” the man answered.

“The girl’s on the plane” he said.

“What about the other one?” the voice asked. “The other team is on their way now”.

“Good, call me when you’re on your way” the voice said.

“All right sir”. The man responded and went to sit down on the airplane, while the other men were strapping Sydney to her seat.

She was still unconscious, completely unaware of what was going on.

-------------------

Jack pulled up in Sydney’s driveway, got out of his car and walked up to the front door.

When he discovered the door had been knocked down, he hurried in the house, looking for Sydney, keeping his gun in front of him just in case.

He rushed through the living room and the kitchen finding nothing but a mess, it was obvious there had been a fight here.

“Sydney”. He called a couple of times, but there was no answer. He walked down the hallway towards Sydney’s room very carefully, afraid of what he might find next.

All he found was Francie’s body drenched in blood, he knew she was dead but checked her pulse just to make sure. He called up a clean-up crew; they said they would be here in an hour.

Jack hung up his phone and tried to find something else that might explain what happened here. He looked in Francie’s room, which wasn’t a mess to his surprise. Then went on to the bathroom where he found Will.

He checked his pulse immediately; he was still alive but had a very light pulse. Jack tried to shake him awake but he didn’t respond.

He rushed through all the cabinets in the bathroom looking for painkillers but didn’t find any. So he ran to Syd’s room hoping to find some there. He got a first-aid-kit from a drawer, put it on the bed and searched through it.

Then he heard a car pull up, thinking it was the clean-up crew. One of the men from the car headed inside, the others following, he went into Sydney’s room where Jack was.

“The body’s over there, and there’s another one in the bathtub, he’s still alive”. Jack said, still looking for painkillers.

The man ignored him, grabbed a lamp and struck him hard on the back of his head causing him to collapse and fall to the floor.

The five other men rushed in, they tied Jack up and put him in the car. The men drove away, heading for the airport.

----------------

Dixon, Vaughn and Carrie walked off their airplane, greeted by a man from the customs department, who asked them for their passports.

“Hi, I’m Mr.Bonero and this is my wife Juliana” said Vaughn in Spanish, handing the man their passports.

“O, and this is my bodyguard, Rano” he added and handed the man Dixon’s pass. The man stamped their passes and pointed to their rental car, they got in and drove to a hotel.

Once they found a nice looking pace, they checked in and went to their room.

“I’m going to take a shower” Carrie said and went in the bathroom.

Vaughn and Dixon set up some equipment and went to bed, as did Carrie. Dixon lay on the floor in a sleeping bag, Carrie in a bed and Vaughn in the other bed.

They had played poker to see who got the floor, Dixon lost first.

Chapter 4

A car pulled up, six men got out, four of them carried Jack onto the airplane and strapped him to a seat opposite of Sydney, so they were facing each other, still both unconscious.

The two other men got on the plane as well, and it took off in the horizon of Los Angeles, just as the sun went to bed.

One of the men who was already on the plane called his employer once again.

“We have both of them and we’re on our way now” he said.

“Perfect, I’ll expect you in 12 hours”. Sloane said, hung up and sat down in his chair.

-------------------

At six in the morning, the clean-up crew was doing their job when will walked up to one of the men, struggling to get his words out.

“Hi, I’m Will” the man cut him off before he could finish.

“I know, Mr. Bristow told us to bring you to the ops center, where is he?”

“I heard a group of men in the house, it think… that they took him”. Will replied.

“Great” the man said sarcastically.

“I’ll notify Kendal when we get there”. He finished. The men finished cleaning, three of them took Freplica to the morgue.

The others helped Will into the car and headed for the ops center. When they got there, Will and the man walked up to Kendal.

“Kendal, sir, I think we’ve lost Jack and Sydney” the man said.

“Damn, get a search team on it right away”.

“Yes, sir” he said and walked away.

“Will, I think you go see a doctor and take the rest of the day off”.

“But what about Syd?”

“We’ll find her”. Kendal reassured him and walked away. Will went to the doctor’s and fell asleep when he got home.

-------------------

Carrie was sitting in the hotel room in front of the computer giving Vaughn and Dixon directions as to where in the museum the Rambaldi piece was hidden, and watching them through Vaughn’s ring.

Dixon and Vaughn had just entered a room when they saw a crew of three leave through the ceiling.

Dixon got a ladder and tried to go after them, but the ceiling was shut and something heavy was put on top.

Vaughn checked under a sculpture for the device but it was gone. “Shit” he shouted.

“Guys get out of the building now, it’s just been wired with C4 on the ceiling, run!” Carrie yelled into the headset.

“Come on let’s go Vaughn”. Dixon shouted, and they both ran down the stairs and out the door, just as the building exploded behind them.

“Guys, are you okay?” she asked.

“Yeah we’re fine, thanks Carrie”. Dixon responded and helped Vaughn up.

“Vaughn take Dixon and Carrie and report back here immediately,” Kendal said furiously.

“Copy that” he said and slowly walked back to the hotel with Dixon.

Chapter 5

Jack woke up slowly with a pounding headache. He then looked over at and was sure she had just been through the worst fight of her life.

“Sydney, Sydney wake up” he said kicking her leg a few times but there was no response.

He turned around and saw a group of men dressed in black playing cards a few seats behind him. He ignored them because it didn’t seem like they would answer his questions.

After a couple of hours of pondering, the plane landed. The men untied him and Sydney from their seats pushed him out of the plane and carried Sydney; she had a weak reaction but was definitely alive.

The men had killed the pilots and left them there. They drove off with Jack and Sydney heading for a dark gray abandoned warehouse next to a shore.

By the time they got there Jack figured out they were in Hong Kong, since the sights reminded him of previous trips there.

Once in the warehouse the men seated him on a chair and tied him to it with duct tape, two doctors took Sydney.

“Where are you taking her?” he asked.

“She’ll be fine Mr. Bristow” one of the doctors replied and left the dark gray room. Minutes later some of the men returned, Sloane following.

“Hello Jack” he said with a slight smile on his face.

“I figured as much” jack said with anger in his throat.

“This is one of my latest Rambaldi devices, I got it a few hours ago from Brazil”. He showed to him.

“Looks rather odd” Jack responded.

“I know most of his mysteries don’t usually come in purple birdhouses but look inside”. He showed it to Jack but he looked puzzled.

“Why are you showing me this?” he asked.

“Because, Jack, you’re part of the prophecy, and you’re going to help me with this”.

“For the last time, no I’m not” Jack yelled back at him.

“Now, now, calm down, I hope you reconsider your decision, people could get hurt” he started walking towards the door, his men following.

“Don’t you touch my daughter” he yelled at him. Sloane ignored the comment and closed the door behind him.

Jack remembered that he had his cell phone in his pocket and after an half an hour of struggling to get loose, he phoned Kendall.

“Kendal, look sloane’s got me and Sydney in Hong Kong, and I’m pretty sure he’s still in the building himself”.

“I’ll have a team on the way right now, notify me when they find you”.

“Thanks” something Jack regretted saying when he hung up the phone.

----------------

“Marshall, get me the exact location on that phone call” Kendal yelled.

“Yes, of course sir”. He said and started typing away on his computer. Will walked in to the office towards Kendal.

“Any news?” he asked.

“We found them, and we’re sending a team in now”.

“Can I go? I know I’m not fully trained but she’s my friend”. Will asked.

“No, absolutely not” he said and walked away, then called agent Vaughn who was just on his way to the airport with Carrie and Dixon when his phone rang.

“Can you get that Dixon, I’m driving” he asked Dixon who picked up the phone.

“Hello” he said.

“Dixon, I want you and agent Vaughn to go to Hong Kong right away, Sydney and Jack are being held there, we’ll give you more information when you get there and send Carrie back here, do you understand?”

“Yes, of course” Dixon responded and hung up. He told Vaughn and Carrie and they got on their airplanes.

----------------

Carrie got back to the op center and Marshal greeted her happily.

“Are you okay, I mean I saw the explosion and I was like wow” said Marshal.

“I’m fine, just wish we got the artifact”, “I know what you mean, but hey we got a location on him and a team is on the way”.

“Good, well I’m gonna head home since it’s late” she said.

“Okay, see ya tomorrow”. Marshal said and waved bye to her as she left.

Chapter 6

Sydney slowly woke up, and then noticed she was tied to a table. A doctor entered the room; he walked over to another table.

At that moment Sloane came in.

“Glad to see you’re awake Sydney, how are you feeling?”

“Where am I?” she asked.

“Hong Kong, now, I’ll only ask you this once, would you like to help me in my Rambaldi Mission?” Sloane went on.

“Why?”

“Because if you don’t co-operate your father will die” he stated.

“You could never kill my father and I will never help you”. She yelled back at him.

“I see you’ve made up your mind”. Sloane said and walked out of the room. Sydney moved around on the table, trying to get loose. The doctor approached her.

“What’s that for?” Sydney asked nervously.

“Relax” the man said and injected the needle into her stomach.

Then, she suddenly turned causing the needle to scratch open her stomach.

“aaah” she yelled but soon fell asleep.

“Foolish girl” the doctor said to himself. He stitched up her stomach and left the room.

----------------

Sloane opened the door, he knew Jack got loose and had his men tie him up again, this time with ropes.

Four other men came in with Sydney and put her on another chair.

“Sydney” Jack yelled moving around in his chair.

“She’s fine Jack, we gave her stitches, painkillers, and a sleeping drug”. Sloane said calmly, and continued speaking.

“We’re going to give you a sleeping drug as well, since you obviously didn’t change your mind”.

He said and injected a needle in his right arm; Jack fell asleep within a few seconds.

His men got Jack’s cell phone and left the room, as did Sloane. He went in another room and started observing his device.

----------------

Vaughn and Dixon arrived in Hong Kong. They got a call from Marshall as soon as they got there; he gave them directions to the abandoned warehouse.

Hong Kong, being the big city that it is, it would take them about thirty minutes to get there.

“You know Vaughn, you could slow down a little bit” Dixon said worriedly.

“Not now” said Vaughn.

“Look, I wan to find Sydney too, but that’s no reason to get a speeding ticket”, “We won’t, I promise, now where do we go now?” Vaughn asked.

“Left” Dixon responded vaguely, and they continued driving.

----------------

Next day at the op center everyone was busy.

Marshal was trying to contact Jack on his cell phone but he couldn’t seem to reach him because the phone had been crushed and thrown out by one of Sloane’s men.

“Any progress?” Kendal asked as he walked up to him.

“No, but they should be there in about fifteen minutes”.

“Good”. He said and walked away again.

Chapter 7

Irina was climbing up a wall of a three-story building; she spotted a window and with some difficulty managed to crawl in.

When she saw Sydney and Jack she checked both their pulses to make sure they were alive, they were.

Just as she tried to wake them up, she heard footsteps down the hall and decided to stand behind the door.

Two men came and Sloane were entering the room.

“Check the window” he said. The men walked towards the window. With her gun in her right hand, she shot both before they reached the window, with her other hand she slammed the door in Sloane’s face and heard a loud thud in the hallway.

She heard him stand up and figured he was getting the gaurds, so she immediately locked the door.

Irina quickly untied Sydney, dragged her to the window and tied her to a rope outside, leaving her hanging there.

A guard opened the door with a key, giving Irina just enough time to hide behind Jack’s chair.

He discovered Sydney was gone, and went to the window. The guard cut the rope with a knife leaving it hanging there. Sydney fell to the ground and started waking up.

Irina just silently put new bullets in her gun and shot the guard. She put her gun on Jack’s lap and started to untie him.

He suddenly woke up just as she finished. He quickly grabbed the gun. She went to face him.

“What are you doing here, and where’s Sydney?” he asked furiously.

“I’m here to help her Jack”.

“Where is she?” he asked again, still angry.

At that moment Sloane busted in, this was so unexpected to Jack that he accidentally shot Irina just below her right knee.

She let out a loud moan. Three gaurds ran in.

“Handcuff them” Sloane ordered.

Two men went over to Irina and handcuffed her right hand; she seemed a bit weak as they dragged her over to Jack.

The gaurds didn’t realize he had a gun. He shot the guard that came up to him, then another who let go of Irina to shoot him, but he was too slow.

The third guard quickly handcuffed him to Irina; Jack quickly reacted and shot him too, now pointing his gun at Sloane.

“My, my, what a pleasant surprise Irina”. Sloane said but she didn’t respond.

“I found this device, it’s one of Rambaldi’s” he went on.

Jack shot the device out of his hand; it dropped to the floor and exploded in a little poof.

“You shouldn’t have done that Jack”. Sloane said, and looked over at Irina who looked like she could fall to the floor at any moment.

“It’s all for the best” Jack responded.

“I don’t think so, it was some sort of a time machine or something”.

“I find that very hard to believe”. He said.

“Don’t be so sure Jack” said Irina.

“It could have taken us back in time, and possibly into the future”. Sloane said.

“This isn’t the end” he continued, and then ran out of the room just as Jack was about to shoot him, but Irina grabbed his arm.

“Don’t, he’s not worth it,” she said.

“Come on” he replied”.

“Wait”.

“we don’t have time, now let’s go”. He said and they ran out of the building, then stopped as they saw Sloane take off in a car.

Irina was catching her breath and Jack fired at the tires of the car but missed.

----------------

Vaughn and Dixon were at the city jail. Vaughn was sitting, waiting anxiously while Dixon was explaining their numerous speedings to an officer. Then Vaughn’s phone rang.

“Vaughn, we found Sydney” Kendal said happily into his phone.

“O thank god, where is she?” Vaughn replied. Kendal gave him directions to the safe house in Hong Kong and hung up. Vaughn headed for the door.

“Where are you going?” Dixon asked.

“I’ll be back, just getting some fresh air” he said and left. Dixon continued explaining that they were C.I.A. to the officer, while Vaughn took off in his car.

----------------

The crew Kendal had sent to find Sloane and Jack had searched the building but found neither of the men and unsuccessfully returned to Los Angeles.

“We didn’t find the sir, would you like us to send another team?” and agent asked.

“He’s a good agent, I’m sure he’ll find his way home” Kendal responded and walked off.

----------------

The Rambaldi device was in fact a time machine, which made it seem that the last three days were actually two years.
However, The only people that weren’t affected by this were Sydney, Jack, Irina, Sloane and the dead gaurds because they were within a 5 meter radius when the device exploded on the floor.

Chapter 8

“Let’s take my car” Irina said.

“Where is it?”

“At the back, Sydney should be there too”.

“Why would she be there?” he asked.

“Long story, come on” she said and with some struggles they managed to get to her black Lincoln navigator.

“Where’s Sydney?” Jack asked anxiously.

“She could have left if she woke up, I want to find her as much as you do” she responded calmly.

“I think it’s best I drive” Jack said.

“What about this?” she yanked on the handcuffs.

“We’ll find a way later, let’s get in on the right side” he said. They did and with some stumbling they drove off. After ten minutes of silence Irina asked.

“Where are we going?”

“Back to L.A., I’m not letting you get off that easy” he responded.

“What about Sydney?”

“I’ll find her” he said and kept driving, while Irina looked out the window with regret.

----------------

Sydney found herself at a phone booth in Hong Kong and called the C.I.A., where Kendal directed her to the safe house.

She hung up and did as she was told, with no memory of what happened before she woke up. She got to the safe house and waited in a room.

Vaughn entered and she embraced him with joy, he calmly sat her down. They talked and their conversation ended in.

“What’s that ring?’ she asked with the fear of losing him.

“We thought you died, they asked me to come back and explain,” he responded sadly.

” Vaughn, what’s going on”

“since that night, you’ve been missing for almost two years” he said with tears in his eyes, leaving her more confused than ever.

----------------

Jack and Irina got on an airplane, without saying one word to each other. Jack took Irina’s cell phone with him from the car and decided to call Kendal.

“I’m coming home,” Jack said.

“Good, we got Sydney and she’ll be returning as well”.

“great” Jack responded and asked.

“What about Sloane?”

“Better luck next time, heard anything of Mrs. Derevko?” Kendal asked.

“I’ve got her chained to my wrist”.

“Good, don’t let her get out of your sight and don’t unchain her until you get here, I’ll see you then” Kendal said and hung up.

“They found Sydney”. Jack said to Irina but there was no response, she just let out a sigh of relief.

“How’s your knee?” he asked.

“Fine, it’s just a flesh wound” she replied. About five minutes later a guard came up and bandaged her knee, then left. Jack fell asleep in the mean time and she decided to do the same.

LightTraveller - August 27, 2003 11:11 PM (GMT)

Chapter 9

----------------

The plane landed and one of the gaurds woke them up. Another guard was on his way to drive them to the ops center.

Irina was still tired, Jack could tell, he was too and both of them were equally hungry since they hadn’t eaten for at least two days.

The other guard gave them each a sandwich and two water bottles, they accepted both thankfully.

Both were getting tired of being handcuffed to each other but Jack was sure Marshal would free them once the got to the op center.

----------------
“We’ve lost sloane, do you have any idea where he could be?’ asked Kendal.

Chapter 10

Sydney and Vaughn got on the plane without saying one word to each other. They sat across from each other; Vaughn could tell she was till mad at him.

“Sydney, please let me explain”.

“What’s there to explain Vaughn?” she asked, not exactly happy.

“Look, I’m not married” he held up his hand.

“Anyone can take off a ring you know” she said sarcastically.

“No, no, I was on a mission, Carrie was posing as my wife and we wore rings to make it look realistic, they’re also cameras” he finished explaining.

“Are you lying?” she asked.

“I wouldn’t do that to you” he said with a little smirk on his face. She was convinced he wasn’t lying and leaned in to kiss him.

She then went to sit beside him with her head on his comforting shoulder.

“I love you” he said.

“I love you too “ she replied, and soon they both fell asleep. Within a few hours the plane landed and Sydney woke up, she looked out the window shocked and turned to Vaughn.

“Wake up” she yelled twice and shook him a bit before he woke up.

“What?” he said.

“Why are we in Vienna?” she asked.

“What do you mean we’re in” she cut him off.

“Look” she said and pointed to the window. He lifted himself from his seat and looked out the window puzzled, then sat back in his seat and grabbed a guard by his arm just as he walked by.

“What are we doing here?” he asked angrily.

“All questions will be answered once we reach Mr. Sloane” the guard responded and got away form Vaughn’s grip.

Vaughn looked over at Sydney, confused, as did she. Six other gaurds joined, and ushered them off the airplane, into a black van, then drove off.

----------------

Jack and Irina walked into the op center.

Some people looked up from their desks, surprised to see Irina and Jack casually walk in there after two years and handcuffed to each other.

They ignored their looks and kept walking.

----------------

In the debriefing room, Kendal was getting upset.

“Were are they, they should’ve been here hours ago”.

“Well, maybe they stopped for ice cream on the way or something,” said Marshal trying to calm him down.

The End
and that was all for now
