Title: Rules!
Description: READ BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING!

For this section, you will have to request groundskeepers to create new topic for you. IF YOU'RE NOT mod or admin, you don't have any permission to create your own topic.
(Due to ::: Mr. John created a topic for "Into the Forest".
After a while, Ms. Jane created a topic for "The Forest".)

Here are rules of RPing, written by Brittany.

Welcome to the Roleplaying Section of Blackforests.com. In this area, you will be expected to roleplay, using characters of your own imagination, or that of the Harry Potter series. Don't know how to roleplay? That's alright! This is a brief tutorial of what is expected, what is proper/improper, as well as how to blend in already populated topics.

For starters, here are a couple of ground rules:

1) Do Not Godplay.
When Godplaying, you simply do not give your fellow RPG'er a chance at defending themselves, or having a say in what their character does, says, or how they react. You must remember to roleplay for yourself, and even though it may seem like it takes the other person a long time to respond to your most recent post, you simply must be patient. Give the other person an opportunity to create their own responses to your actions, you'd be surprised at just how fun it can be.

2) Use Proper Grammar
You'll find that your message is better-received when it's written properly. It's much more appealing, it's neater, and it's easier to work with.

Here is an example of how NOT to roleplay:
i asked the gurl - "r u ready 2 go outside?"

Here is the proper way of asking the same thing:
Turning to the girl, he leaned in and spoke quietly- obviously attempting to keep his message private. "Are you ready to go outside now?" he asked, whispering.

3) Third Person, Not First
Somewhat outlined in the previous example of how NOT to roleplay, you noticed how I changed the word, "I" to "He." You'll find that when RP'ing, speaking in first person just seems out of place. Speaking in third person allows it to feel like more of a story, more of a roleplaying experience. It allows you to step more out of the box.

4) When Posting Topics, Make Sure It's Neat!
I can't tell you how annoying it is to have to go in, review all of the newly posted topics, and have to change five or six of them, just because the topic headlines are grammatically incorrect, or just plain aggravating looking. Here's an example:

"tha womping willow!!1!"

Honestly, nobody wants to roleplay in that. Please, if you can't roleplay with proper grammar, at least make the title as neat as possible. Also, when creating a topic, try to make it as vague as possible. Nothing too specific. That way, the roleplays can branch out and are less free and available for change.

If your topic looks like this:

The Second Tree To The Right Of The Red Bush

Well- that'll be a little difficult to roleplay with. Keep it vague, keep it simple. Keep it available for anyone to post at. We're trying to bring the boards together and to avoid creating small roleplaying groups. We want everyone to be able to roleplay together!

5) When Replying To A Topic- Give Em' Something To Work With!
When replying to a topic, try to always give the other person something to work with. Try to leave it open for change, rather than simply replying, "Yes," to a topic, try to add a little something. Give them something to go on! There are way too many dead topics that are a result of this type of response. Try to keep it interesting. If you run out of ideas, post something OOC [Out Of Character] to hopefully get the ball rolling.

Example:

"Yes," she said, frowning slightly.

OOC: I don't know what else to do! What do you think we should do?

[Be sure to put OOC!] Responses should be 2-3 sentences mandatory!

6) Entering A Topic For The First Time
So, you decide to finally roleplay after reading all of this, but you can't pick a good topic to start in. It appears that all of the RP's are in the process of being roleplayed. Don't fret! The most important thing you can do, is read back and see what's going on. Don't just blindly enter. Get the scoop on what's going in, the roleplaying is being done appropriately, it'll be just like reading a story, only a story posted between multiple people. If you think that you can work your character in somehow, and you do it respectfully, rather than just barging in, you'll find that the joining process is much easier. Be sure to be educated on what the topic is first.

7) No Spamming, Flaming, etc.
Please don't post in a topic over and over again, just to get posts up as well as attention to the topic. Do not verbally assault anyone while roleplaying. This is meant for fun! Try to keep cussing to a minimum, though I understand how things can go. No double-posting.

If you want to practice roleplaying here before you jump into the topics, feel free! If you have any questions about roleplaying, post them here!

Have a great time!
Happy roleplaying!
-Brittany.
