Title: Two Deathly Hallows Movies
James.Potter - March 28, 2009 08:20 PM (GMT)
Though this is old news, there's still room for discussing it. Warner Bros. has released that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the final book of JK Rowling's magnificent magical saga, will be split into two 2.5 hour movies. The apparent and logical reasoning behind this is to prevent anything being cut from the book. As the previous movies have shown, the books are simply "too big" to fit everything into a 2.5 hour movie. However, Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 will not be cut and will have everything from the book.
Deathly Hallows Pt. 1 is set to be released late 2010 while Pt. 2 is set for late 2011. Separate DVDs will be created for Pt. 1, Pt. 2, and for the whole thing.
How do you feel about this? Does it make sense to release two movies? Or should they just make one uber long movie like they did with the Lord of the Rings? Discuss what you feel here.
Sirius_Black - March 28, 2009 08:30 PM (GMT)
In a world of pure awesomness, movies lasting much longer then just 2.5 hours, I would be outraged.
But seeing as this isn't so, I'm glad they are atleast prioritizing content instead of cutting random things out.
Bring it on, epic two-part HP finale.
Shawn Black - March 28, 2009 09:25 PM (GMT)
id sit through 7 hours of harry potter deathly hallows.... >.>
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 12:43 AM (GMT)
Me too... I think GOF and OoTP should have gotten more attention like that... v_v
Shawn Black - March 29, 2009 12:47 AM (GMT)
I think all of the movies should've been like LotR
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 12:49 AM (GMT)
Dude, me too! I mean, don't get me wrong- LoTR was amazing, but... dude, Harry Potter has infected everything and everyone at every age. It's a household name. Don't you think they could have at least made it 3 hours? Maybe more? It's like... come on. The books are over 500 pages long...
Shawn Black - March 29, 2009 01:09 AM (GMT)
i mean if i can read all the books the week before the 7th comes out, and read the 7th the day i got it, they can make longer movies... c'mon!!
James.Potter - March 29, 2009 01:17 AM (GMT)
in case anyone's noticed, the HP books are WAY longer than LotR...I agree with Shawn and Britt.
Pete Best - March 29, 2009 01:24 AM (GMT)
how ever much longer they are they have a lot of unimportant material in each book which they really dont need in the movies. But even worse is in the movies when they add stupid thing that have no point.Personally i think the idea is brilliant they get twice as much theater money for only a little more than normal cost (that sounded a little two much like a commercial)
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 01:39 AM (GMT)
Still, the 'useless' information adds up in the end. That's why HP is so great. The 5th movie was HACKED. The 4th wasn't so bad, but- the maze sucked serious balls. 3rd almost made me cry at how bad it was, 2nd was awesome and 1st was great.
Hm.
Shawn Black - March 29, 2009 01:45 AM (GMT)
you guys do know that they almost cut kreacher out've the fifth movie.
Pete Best - March 29, 2009 02:03 AM (GMT)
I think the main reason the other movies were soooooooooooo bad is because of the new director he change practically everything including the landscapes which sucked
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 02:06 AM (GMT)
Oh my god! I know, Shawn! He had like, one line. It's ridiculous. He ends up playing such an IMPORTANT role! You think they'd foreshadow a bit. I feel like the directors are reading the books one at a time as they're making the movies. You have to have a good understanding of the series itself to make these movies...
Pete Best - March 29, 2009 02:09 AM (GMT)
you also notice they didnt put the locket in the fifth movie i almost died laughing
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 03:24 AM (GMT)
I know.
I can't wait until they have to introduce that.
"Oh, btw- do you remember that necklace?"
"No..."
"Well... it's important, and it's here."
lmao. That'll be adorable.
<_<
James.Potter - March 29, 2009 05:28 AM (GMT)
Omg, Britt, you're ezactly right! PoA was the precedent to screwed up Robes, a change in Hogwarts landscape, and Flitwick changed. :(
AND everytime Dobby was supposed to help in GoF and OotP, they replaces it with Neville. Aaargh.
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 06:04 AM (GMT)
Lici - March 29, 2009 11:26 AM (GMT)
i was annoyed that peeves isn't in it! his the comic relief! everyone knows that you need the comic relief!
That and there are a lot of things that have been left out that i have no idea how they are going to fix in the seventh book (such as the locket for example) and its just going to be something like' oh yeah, we did actually do this thing where we found this item and it relates to this storyline, but it wasn't in the films and people need to suspend their disbelief
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 02:58 PM (GMT)
I know, I'm worried about the 7th films.
I'm even worried about the 6th. If they don't describe the pensieve just right and go through the memories just right- there's no way they can recover and make the 7th book as epic as it was.
James.Potter - March 29, 2009 03:29 PM (GMT)
Exactly! Apart from the Locket, they need to do all of the pensieve memories exactly right- Riddle at the orphanage, Riddle with Hebzpah(sp?) Smith, the witch that had Hufflepuff's cup. If they screw up 6, I dunno if I wanna see 7.
Although, from the previews, 6 looks better as a book-to-movie movie. I'm not sure though, cuz previews are always misleading. And I hate how their only now putting Quidditch back into the movies. We haven't seen a good quidditch game since Chamber of Secrets, cuz the one in PoA was an utter failure.
Omg, Britt, do you remember the thread we had here ages ago called "Anti-PoA"? With Tim? I miss him. :(
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 03:38 PM (GMT)
There's just so much to cover in the sixth book, especially since they have to make up for the 5th one, you know? Explain things from that movie.
So far from everything that I've seen with the previews and whatnot, it's all going to be focused on Riddle, which I guess is important, but at the same time- I don't want to sit and watch a 2-2 1/2 hour movie on how 'eerie' he was as a kid, just because that's the only thing they can really go on, you know? It seems they're going to blow him up in this movie, when really there is so much more going on in that book.
I know! The Quidditch needs to come back seriously. They didn't even SHOW the Quidditch World Cup in the 4th book. I expected that to be amazing. The fourth wasn't as bad though...
PoA was a complete failure. I'm surprised they're still making movies after that. They hacked it up SO BAD.
Yeah, I remember that.
^_^ That was awesome.
James.Potter - March 29, 2009 03:59 PM (GMT)
Exactly! If they don't have the Draco-becoming-a-Death-Eater-side-plot, I'm gonna throw a knife at the movie screen. I mean, they always leave out the petty things that really aren't that petty. I'm sure, just to compensate, they'll show a random scene in the sixth movie of them at Grimmauld Place and they find the un-openable locket.
By the way, what the HELL happened to Mundungus Fletcher?
Quidditch was so necessary in OotP. The main reason Fred and George ran away was cuz they loathed Umbridge, had been kicked off the Quidditch team, and they wanted to leave. haha.
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 04:01 PM (GMT)
I know!
Ah, where is Fletcher? Seriously?
There is just so much going awry with those movies, I wish they had picked someone else to direct them and just STUCK with them!
James.Potter - March 29, 2009 04:11 PM (GMT)
I wish Christopher Columbus stuck to them. He did SS and CoS. He was amazing. And I can't remember the producer for them but he stayed for 3 and 4, which is sad cuz they sucked.
Four was horrible, in my opinion. I can't believe they didn't put the Quidditch World Cup. That made me so angry. And NEVILLE WASN'T SUPPOSED TO GIVE HARRY THE GILLYWEED! Dobby was. This isn't fair. Dobby is being left out and he's soon gonna die. :(
And that whole Weird Sisters rock song was utterly creepy.
I also don't like the whole "rock" music they've been having in 4 and 5. It's supposed to be late 90s and all, but it makes Hogwarts look less magical with blaring rock music in the Gryffindor Common Room. :(
Chocolat64 - March 29, 2009 04:35 PM (GMT)
I definitely agree.
Christopher Columbus did an amazing job. So far, Chamber of Secrets has been the best one- sticking to the book, and it turned out to be a great movie in itself. You didn't have to read the book to make sense out of it, if that makes sense. The other movies- psh, it's so choppy! If you hadn't read the books, then none of it made sense to you, and that really sucks because that would be great advertisement to get the kids to read the books.
I know- four was off, but it was so far the one with the most excitement in it. For me, at least.
I don't like the rock either. I don't like the fact that they're walking around in their normal clothes all of the time, either. They need to stick to the robes.
Pete Best - March 30, 2009 02:23 AM (GMT)
ya that was wired in the books the wizards werent supposed to know how to dress like that and what was with the pendulum?
James.Potter - April 3, 2009 03:48 AM (GMT)
Don't even start with the change of Hogwarts' formatting. They completely changed the way the castle and the grounds look in PoA. They added a freaking Stone Henge in there for no reason. o.O And the random courtyard became the front of the school. And, like Pete said, the large pendulum. The Whomping Willow was better in Chamber of Secrets. I hate the fact that they don't wear robes. And, when they do decide to wear them, they have that stupid colored in-seem. *dies*
Chocolat64 - April 6, 2009 02:19 PM (GMT)
lol, well written James.
I couldn't believe that they changed the landscape that much.
I want to see more Quidditch.
They didn't show any of the Maze's actual challenges.
Ugh.
v_v
Epic fail.
Shaniers - April 10, 2009 08:42 AM (GMT)
I think that 2 parts for HP7 is great for the Harry Potter fans, though I don't think the rest will like it....but who cares?! Haha...
Hopefully this will give them less of a reason to mess things up when it comes to cutting off parts. And I saw the 6th trailer (finally) and it looks really good! I really can't wait!
Do you remember the old topic we had about the 3rd movie? OMG it was so funny because we were talking about how Harry was 'crying' when he found out the truth about Sirius Black and it was hilarious! Sometimes I go back just to watch that part....it never gets old.
Chocolat64 - April 10, 2009 02:19 PM (GMT)
hahaha, I know.
That topic went on forever, and we were hating on it the entire time.
It truly was one of the worst book to movie adaptations I'd ever seen.
The 6th movie looks like it's going to be okay, but I don't want it to focus TOO much on Tom Riddle. There's a lot that's going on in that back, and I'd hate for them to hack it up.
Lici - August 30, 2009 11:57 AM (GMT)
I'm gonna start up the convo again now that the 6th movie has come out. I loved the 6th movie, I think it was the right balance of comedy and seriousness...although the one thing I have to nitpick at was the Lupin/Tonks scene in the middle, and the failure at Harry and Ginny flirting (I'm sorry, but who in the world ties a shoelace to flirt). I understand that a lot of it was done to represent what was happening in the wizarding world and I think the director did a good job.
Now I know that before I complained about the last movies, but I do have to say that I understand why they change things and cut things out. There's no way you could have a series of seven movies that are all 3+ hours long...people would stop watching them.
I think the 7th movie being in 2 parts is a good idea, and maybe they will fix things, or maybe the director will put his own spin on it, which I don't mind because I personally think that the current director is the best one.
As for the change of grounds, I like the new Hogwarts, and I like that they are in normal clothes (except for in the third movie, the normal clothes failed then). I'm in boarding at the moment and there is no way in hell that I would stay in my uniform 24/7...It's just a ridiculous concept. Anyway, it was always said in the books that the younger generations wore muggle clothes more then robes.
I think the third and fourth movies were the worst two in the series...the third one was just ridiculous...the werewolf was stupid, the costumes were ridiculous and I didn't like it (or maybe because it was my favourite book). The fourth one was even worse...If you didn't know what happened in the books you would have been completely lost for the first half of the movie.
And I am done with my input...let the discussion begin once more :D
Oliversgurl01 - August 30, 2009 12:13 PM (GMT)
If the movies are anything like the sixth I will not go see it or buy it
