Title: Twilight
Chocolat64 - March 23, 2009 09:16 PM (GMT)
Who's read the books?
Who loved the movie?
I absolutely love the books, and I thought the movie was great.
What did you think?
Cecilia - March 31, 2009 12:23 AM (GMT)
L.O.V.E.D the books.
The movie was alright.
I kind of laughed really hard at the acting.
Chocolat64 - March 31, 2009 12:25 AM (GMT)
Oh my god, I know.
The scene were Bella was in the hospital after the incident with James and whatnot, when Edward told her that he might leave her, and she freaked, that was the worst acting I think I'd scene in a long time.
The girl that plays Bella bothers me with her acting. She fits the part looks wise, but- her stammering drives me crazy!
I loved the movie, though. It was great. It was really close to the book. The running made me angry, as well as Edward's skin. It just seemed like he was sweating a lot. lol.
Cecilia - March 31, 2009 12:31 AM (GMT)
Yeahh, the running made me angry too. It just looked stupid as opposed to super cool vampire stuff. The parts that made me laugh the most were as follows (oh yes, I have a list.) :
-When Carlisle was turning Edward back in 1918 xD
-When Bella first found out Edward was a vamp and had the image of him turning her and he had all the eyeliner and looked like the guy from the Cure,
-The part in the ballet studio when Edward was sucking the venom and he had that ridiculous look on his face.
Made me lawllll.
Chocolat64 - March 31, 2009 12:36 AM (GMT)
hahahaha.
All those parts made me laugh too.
New Moon looks promising though. November 20th, 2009
Sirius_Black - March 31, 2009 12:39 AM (GMT)
And how about that food the cafeteria was serving during those lunch scenes....
Yeah, I don't really have anything to add. :indifferent:
Cecilia - March 31, 2009 12:42 AM (GMT)
Bahaha, actually their food looked pretty good.
But yeah, I'm excited for New Moon. Lots of Taylor Lautner (a.k.a Jacob.) He's pretty. So is Kellan Lutz (a.k.a Emmett).
Chocolat64 - March 31, 2009 12:43 AM (GMT)
Taylor Lautner is adorable.
^_^
Cecilia - March 31, 2009 12:45 AM (GMT)
Indeed(:
I was super upset when they were thinking about replacing him D:
Chocolat64 - March 31, 2009 12:47 AM (GMT)
I know! I'm so glad they decided to keep him. Seriously.
^_^
Cecilia - March 31, 2009 12:47 AM (GMT)
He fits it so perfectly, its ridiculous.
Foei - March 31, 2009 11:34 AM (GMT)
yeah, I'm a fan, too!
but in my opinion, bella is very, very annoying.
I love the saga jst because I love Edwards and the rest of the cullens.
the movie is not bad, they didn't changed too much
oh yeah! i love Midnight Sun...part of it, anyway, the story is much better from Edward's point of view
Cecilia - March 31, 2009 12:10 PM (GMT)
I still haven't read midnight sun, I want to! But its on the computer and for some reason sitting still at the computer doing absolutely nothing but reading off the screen just feel too weird.
But I loveeeee Emmett. He's absolutely my favorite in the book and in the movie! (:
Chocolat64 - March 31, 2009 12:27 PM (GMT)
Midnight Sun is absolutely breathtaking. I mean, I feel like she's just milking the series by writing it, but it really is a totally different perspective from Edward's point of view. You almost feel like Bella is the most selfish person in the world- but in her perspective, she's just modest. It's weird.
^_^ He's passionate, that's for sure.
Cecilia - March 31, 2009 12:29 PM (GMT)
Bella kind of bothers me but I the same time I don't mind her at all. It's the weirdest thing ever. I'll be reading and at some points it seems like she has absolutely no personality and she's doing things purely because she thinks that's what she has to do, and she has no motivation. But then there are times where she does something and it takes my breath away.
And yes he is :eyebrows:
haha.
Chocolat64 - March 31, 2009 02:31 PM (GMT)
Dude, I know how you feel. I hated Bella before New Moon, then I just felt bad for her, but it just seemed like she didn't deserve the life that was handed to her, you know? She seemed like she didn't want it, she was way to modest and indifferent about everything. I would have killed to have been in her position.
Edward Cullen - character, not Robert Pattinson, is the ideal guy. Seriously... he's sweet, listens, he's thoughtful, caring, and damn hott. ^_^
Foei - April 1, 2009 07:29 AM (GMT)
DITTO! Edward is an ideal guy.
but Rob --" not that he's bad but I think the movie would be much better if they had someone else as Edward.
Emmett is adorable! but I don't really like Jasper and Rosaline.
zamber - April 1, 2009 11:40 AM (GMT)
Like many people I loved the books but I'm not quite obsessed. One of my friends wont read The Host because it hasn't got any vampires in it and says that Edward is the best vampire ever despite the only vampire books or films she has seen are the Twiglight ones and that bugs me.
I had very low expectations for the film so I was pleasently suprised, though what happened to Rosalie being stunning?
I was in France recently and saw their copies of the books, when transaliated their titles are Temptation, Hesitation, Revaltion and another one that I can't remember.
Chocolat64 - April 1, 2009 01:43 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I hate those Twilight girl fans, that only like it because of Edward [Robert]. It's ridiculous. I think Robert was great for the part, to be honest. Bella is looks wise, but not personality wise. I mean, she's awkward- that's for sure, and I guess that's what they were going for...
You're totally right about Rosalie, Zamber. I mean- I'm not the prettiest girl in the world, but- I know they could have picked way prettier for that movie. A natural blonde. She had to have her hair bleached, her skin bleached, everything to fit the role. There are girls out there that could have fit the role, that's for sure. They should have gone with someone like Scarlett Johansson or something like that.
Foei - April 1, 2009 02:31 PM (GMT)
Well, at least, if they had Paris Hilton for Rosaline part, it would fit better I bet haha (i'm not a big fan of paris hilton...gahhh)
I can't wait for Stephanie to continue on Midnight Sun, she jst stopped writting it because of a very, very non-sense reason... for me. And that's annoying.
Anyway, can't wait to see the New Moon, i hope it to be awesome
Chocolat64 - April 1, 2009 02:53 PM (GMT)
Paris Hilton is cockeyed. lol. It should have been Scarlett Johannson, I swear. That's who I always pictured to be Rosalie anyway. That or Elisha Cuthbert.
Here's Scarlett:

Here's Elisha:

Yeah, I read what was online so far and loved it. ^_^
James.Potter - April 1, 2009 10:33 PM (GMT)
I've read the series. :D And I love them.
But I don't like the movie. As far as book-movie films, this has got to be the second worst. (The worst being Eragon). I think they just made it too....quirky. I dunno, there was just something about it that made it utterly nauseating for me to watch it. :(
zamber - April 3, 2009 03:44 PM (GMT)
I went to see it with my sister and her husband. They both liked it and found it quiet amusing.
I was very disapointed with the soundtrack, especialy Roberts singing.
Yea, them two girls would probably do a better Rosalie. I loved Jasper's hair and facial expression throughout the film.
Chocolat64 - April 3, 2009 05:17 PM (GMT)
lol, yeah. Jasper was a good choice.
^_^
zamber - April 3, 2009 05:27 PM (GMT)
I wonder if that was his normal expression or if he had to put it on.
KerryWeasley - April 4, 2009 09:00 PM (GMT)
ahh I'm rereading Breaking Dawn right now and I'm loving every minute of it! except i think the 3rd book is my fav. because you get to see more of the Vampires and learn about their pasts and stuff.
Carissa Dodge - April 4, 2009 09:05 PM (GMT)
I love the books...
i cant stop reading them.
the movie was good.
i just look at it that it didnt go with the books.
James.Potter - April 4, 2009 09:06 PM (GMT)
I agree, Kerry, Eclipse is my favorite. I hate New Moon, just because the whole book is mainly Bella being catatonic about Edward gone.
hplvr_4ever - April 5, 2009 12:25 AM (GMT)
Time to be the party pooper.woo
I really didn't enjoy the Twilight books or the movie. After reading a couple of Anne Rice's Interview With A Vampire series, Twilight was a huge letdown. With all the hype everyone's given it, I just don't think its really lived up to it. I dunno,I just don't really feel that its well written at all and the plot builds up into nothing. What really bugged me though was in the last book (was that Breaking Dawn) how it builds you all up for a big showdown and an awesome fight between the two different sides... and then nothing happens.I just hate it when books build you up like that and then let you down so hard. =( But this is just my opinions and sorry if I offened anyone. Okay, end rant.
On the plus side though, I did love the actor Jasper in the movies. *girly giggle*
And the covers on the books are really well done. :pea:
Lici - April 5, 2009 12:37 AM (GMT)
hplvr_4ever I completely agree with you on every aspect of this. The books are badly written, they have very little decent plot. The vampires are not real vampires (seriously? they sparkle...) the werewolves are the only decent part of the books and I hated how there wasn't enough of them in the books. Edward is a creepy stalker who watches her while she sleeps after sneaking into her room through her window without her knowing...I would be freaked out if someone did that to me...not flattered. I enjoyed the movie because i sat there making fun of it the whole way through, the acting was bad...the biology scene where edward looks like he has wings coming out of his head is my favourite. Victoria sucks, and the bit at the end is just weird because Edward would have known that she was there.
Also it frustrates me that Breaking Dawn is going to suck as a movie because CGI isn't good enough to make Renesmee (and by the way, what kind of a name is Renesmee? Pick a decent name). And Stephenie Meyer has even said herself that she doesn't know how they will make it into a movie, but she knew all along what she was going to write in the 4th book so why did she let them make it into a movie?
And no...I'm not a total Stephenie Meyer hater...I loved The Host and am praying that she a- brings out a sequel and b- lets them make her only decent book into a movie.
Thats my rant for now :D
Chocolat64 - April 5, 2009 03:03 AM (GMT)
Frankly, I think that the reason why Twilight is so taken by everyone right now because it's truly a modern day Romeo and Juliet story. Two star crossed lovers, who are not meant for eachother- but find unconditional love with one another. Although it's dangerous, it's still incredibly romantic.
I'll admit, Stephanie Meyer isn't the best writer, but she brought something new to the table. And although, Lici, her definitions of vampire's don't match up to the other definitions of vampires, you can't blame her for trying to do something different. The whole, garlic-can't go into the sun-can't see your image in a mirror thing just kind of got old over the past couple hundred years, wouldn't you think?
She created, much like Harry Potter, an entirely different aspect of vampires. I think it's great. I thought that Breaking Dawn and Eclipse were really un-climactic, but it was still great. I love the little things that Edward says, because he's truly the ideal guy, you know? Sensitive, sweet, intelligent, etc.
^_^
How they're going to bring Renesmee into this, I don't know. Oh, and Lici- as for the name, it was a combination of both Edward's 'mother' Esme and Bella's mother "Renee"- it wasn't random. It's different. I mean, I wouldn't pick that name for my kid, but it's still unique.
Hopefully they get better special effects for the next one.

Lici - April 5, 2009 03:12 AM (GMT)
i know why they named her renesmee...I did read the books. I didn't say it was random I said it was a bad name...It's not original, in fact, thousands of fanfiction writers used that exact name before breaking dawn came out. Breaking Dawn was a mess of trying to keep all of the fans happy. THe difference between Harry Potter and Twilight is that Harry Potter kept you intrigued the entire way through, it had you thinking. Twilight attempted to do that and failed. If it was a true Romeo and Juliet story someone would have died in the end, and I think that would have actually made it good, every good love story needs a bit of tragedy in it. I still stand by the fact that Edward is creepy, and he didn't listen to her half of the time, he kept leaving her 'for her own good' not understanding that what he was doing was actually hurting poor little Mary-Sue.
Chocolat64 - April 5, 2009 03:19 AM (GMT)
I didn't say that it was like Twilight in the way of Romeo and Juliet EXACTLY- it just had a better ending. It wasn't a tragedy. I meant it in the way that the two lovers were opposites, yet they were brought together by love.
As for the Renesmee thing, I was just saying. It wasn't completely random- yeah, it was kind of a weird name, but oh well.
You can't really say that it didn't intrigue, you obviously kept reading. You can't speak for everyone, be sure you clarify that you didn't find it intriguing, a lot of people found that it was.
Whenever I try to judge a book, I always try to think: "Could I have written something like that?" If you think that you truly could. If you think that you could write 500-700 pages and come up with a story line for an entire series like that and become as successful as she did, then yeah- I think you could really judge it honestly. If not... I always try to give it some credit. No matter what.
I don't think that Edward was creepy, I think he was just fascinated by her. I mean, think of the situation- he'd never met anyone like her, he'd never met someone he couldn't read, or someone he couldn't understand by reading their mind, he had never been more attracted to someone in the way that he craved her more than anyone, and she was the frailest/clumsiest person he'd ever met. I would have been a little suspicious as well, I think I would have watched her too. I found it incredibly romantic.
I think you're being a little too over-critical...
Lici - April 5, 2009 03:32 AM (GMT)
Twilight was the first book I have ever had to force myself to read, everyone was talking about it and I didn't like the sound of it (once again...Vampires that sparkle?) and so in order to get my point of view across I read it. The love story of it was a bit lie 'oh look, you're attractive but mysterious...I love you." and "oh, you smell good...I'm drawn to you...I love you." It was unbelievable and ridiculous. I'm not saying that Stephenie Meyer is a bad write (as i said, I loved the host), I'm saying that the characterisation had to be worked on more, and if it was edited a bit better it would have been great.
I think people have accepted it too easily as brilliant writing. I'm not a critical person normally, but this series just annoyed me.
Terri - April 5, 2009 03:47 AM (GMT)
Lici I totally Agree
I really did not like the books Okay so I only read Twilight and maybe they get better as you go but I could barely finish the first one. I thought the take on Vampires was slightly amusing but that was it. Plus there are other new takes on Vampires (They have reflections in True Blood) with out completely straying from the concept of actual vampires. As for Stephenie Meyer I didn't know anything about her before this book and I have to say that Twilight has completely turned me off to her writing. Now you can say I am overly critical I like classics and books that might possibly make it to a classic where as I think Twilight will be easily forgotten it about 10-15 years, and that when I end up with kids (If ever) they will never find any interest with it.
So there is my opinion sorry if it a little harsh but like I said I can be overly critical lol :D
KerryWeasley - April 5, 2009 01:51 PM (GMT)
See I agree that the movie really wasn't that great. Even though I think Robbert Pattinson is probably the hottest guy on this earth, the acting was awkward and it did the book no justice.
However, i have to disagree about the books. I love them all, they keep my attention the entire time I'm reading them. i really cant put them down. I like how she strayed from the typical Vampire image and while i admit that its a little cheesy that they sparkle I LOVE THEM.
Terri - April 5, 2009 02:12 PM (GMT)
Robbert Pattinson is so not the hottest guy on this earth have you seen Matt Damon Johnny Depp, Leonardo DeCaprio, Tom Welling, Russel Crow, Christen Bale, or Brad Pitt just to name a few
Chocolat64 - April 5, 2009 03:14 PM (GMT)
Terri, I literally think that all of those guys are not hott. lmao. That's a teribble list of hottness. Besides Johnny Depp- but is he the vampire type? No. I'm glad they landed on Robert Pattinson, you know why? While he is extremely good looking, he's not SO good looking that he seems unobtainable. I mean, he seems like someone I could see walking down the street. He's averagely unaverage.
The acting was horrible, lmao. I wanted to punch Bella everytime she started talking. Every other word she stammered. Really annoying. She fit the part though, I think.
In no way did I say that Stephanie's writing was brilliant, because it's mediocre. It really is, I'm just saying- she brought something to the table, and it was accepted. She stood up, wrote something that she felt like she needed to write, and did so. The books [as they continue] become incredibly involved. I loved them.
I sort of took the books as one long fanfic, to be honest. I didn't expect much writing wise, but the storyline that she proposed was excellent.
Teenage [void] - April 5, 2009 03:28 PM (GMT)
I've read all of the books, after my sister recommended reading them. I was trailing through Carol Smith's Twilight Hour at the time, weird coincedence, a murder related book for people who have no idea what it is. Anyway, i tend to get distracted with other things or bored when reading books, but Twilight had me literally hooked. They were all I thought about. Honestly, they were like a drug to me, waiting for my next fix. Needless to say I was upset when I finished the series. Somehow I think it was because I could relate to it and I'm a vampire geek.
I must say that I find Robert Pattinson not the prettiest person in the world. His cheekbones are way too severe. I guess he fits the part.
hplvr_4ever - April 5, 2009 03:39 PM (GMT)
Well, just throwing this out there, but anyone else think the actor for Bella's dad was perfect? I thought he did really well. Yay for a good actor!
