Title: Operation Stalwart Guardian
Description: It's war time boys and girls

Commonwealth of Slavic Byzantium - May 21, 2005 05:06 PM (GMT)
"Sir! We have multiple hostiles inbound! Two dozen naval ships, 9 captial ships, 2 of which are dreadnoughts! They have an air cover consisting of approximately 100 fighters and one aircraft carrier!"

Perfect, thought Admiral Basileios Diomedes. They finally decided to take on our blockade. "This Mostar tinpot navy will feel our wrath, all anval units are go ahead to engage hostile Mostar targets! We will crush this rabble!" Cheer erupted across the fleet as the men and women of the SB navy moved to show their mettle and the flagstaff room turned into a busy hustle of barked orders.

The Adolf Gustav and Stefan Dusan task forces laid in wait for this Mostar task force to begin their assault, now was the time to get them.

"Launch all remaining fighters with anti shipping missiles! Keep 2 dozen fighters for air cover, the rest will fly in low and strike the Mostar capital ships. Ready all anti-aircraft/missile defence. Order the submarines to target the escort vessels now."

At that moment a small wolf pack of 3 hydrogen pwoered submarines laid 500 metres next to the Mostar navy in total silence thanks to the advanced engines not having to worry about steam turbines producing the nocie that are the dread of nuclear subs. Torpedos were immeadiately launched at various targets. Within 20 seconds three destroyers and one cruiser took crippling hits. This sent 6 destroyers out to hunt down the submarines, with half of the escort screen gone, the Adolf Gustav moved in like an arrow to strike at the heart of the Mostar fleet; the dreadnougts.

Mostar ASW was not to be underestimated as they were able to track down the submarines launching torpedo-missiles and depth charges at them, one submarine took heavy damage and was required to surface, which was rammed by a destroyer, dealing a mortal blow to it. The other two submarines were able to make more effective use of their ECM's and standard CM's, avoiding the flotilla completely.

The Mostar fighters streamed towards the Stefan Dusan, at maximum range firing all the shipboard missile they could. Klaxons blared all over the Stefan Dusan as the entire task force formed a sirmish line ahead of the carrier to bring to bear it's defensive weapons. 120 missile were inbound. A series of defensive proximety missiles were shot towards them, blowing up approximately 50. The rest screamed in and at 10 seconds to hit the CIWS Phalanx III's began ripping up the missile with their cannons. A flak blanket ran over the missiles as a metal blanket erupted all over the Stefan Dusan scattering any RADAR lock. This caused the remaining 14 missiles that got through the Phalanx's to go eratic. 12 found new targets and hit random vessels or barely missed them. 2 destroyers blew up immeadiately, another took a crippling hit and began to list, but containment crews did well to keep it from sinking. A cruiser was hit hard and began to erupt in flames but was able to stay afloat until one of the magazines caught on fire, literally tearing apart the bow, sending it 50 feet ahead of the ship within seconds. The last 2 missiles kept in a path at the Stefan Dusan, which remained stationary to allow the metallic cloud surrounding it to guard it from RADAR lock. One missile flew high and was knocked out by CIWS fire to prevent a possible turn around. The other slammed right into the flight deck, causing moderate damage to it, but luckily avoiding the elevator.

70 fighters streaked right after the 100 Mostar fighters, which had minimal A-A missiles to allow them to caryr the massive anti-shipping missiles. The aerial battle that ensued was a near total slaughter of the Mostar squadrons, with a dozen remaining and 20 SB fighters destroyed.

As all this was happening the Adolf Gustav drove right into teh heart of the Mostar fleet, using its dual 120mm automatic cannons to tear apart the remaining escort vessels as the missile battlecruiser also fired a third of its 300 missiles towards the Mostar capital ships, a further 100 joined from the rest of the task force. The missiles all rammed into their designated targets, which was total overkill. Of the 200, 150 remained as the closed range prevented CIWS from being totally effective, and the dreadnoughts each took 2 dozen of the missiles, completely blowing apart the massive ships, within seconds turning some fo the largest ships to sail on Earth into a torn and battled hull falling apart into small parts, and then underwater.

The reamaining capital ships had missiles of their own as well, which were launched against the Adolf Gustav before being blown apart by the missile and gun barrage of the task force. A further 200 missiles erupted from the fleet, streaking towards them, blowing up all but one dozen which hit random targets or missed entirely. The Adolf Gustav took a direct hit, which completely blew off its 120mm turret, causing superficial damage to the main body. By this time however, it had done it's damage, completely erradicating the remaining escort vessels along with the assistance of the other task force ships and the air cover of 20 fighers. one cruiser and 2 destroyers also took missile hits, but these were not dedicated anti-shipping missiles and thus took light-moderate damage and were still able to make their own way.

The 6 destroyers running after the submarines then retreated back towards Mostar water.

"Congratulations to all on showing the Mostar rabble what a real fighting force can do! We will mourn the dead later, for we must worry about our survivors." Admiral Basileios Diomedes then sat down, and lit up a cigar. It is certainly deserved, he thought.

Commonwealth of Slavic Byzantium - May 21, 2005 05:13 PM (GMT)
Welcome all to Operation Stalwart Guardian!

What you saw was one wargame that the SB navy conducted on its own, using cruisers to substitute for the dreadnoughts, and the Sevestopol and Novi Sad task forces as the Mostar navy, simulating actual Mosatr naval forces. All damage was simulated and pretend, it was what is assumed would happen with the type of weapons used. Real missiles were fired without any explosives to test our CM's and were programmed to avoid hitting actual targets by flying over at last second.

Stalwart Guardian was born out of Edessia's request for a wargame, and with Slavic Byzantium's proud tradition of well trained and equipped forces winning verses superior numbers that ensured our survival for the past 7 centuries, we are more than willing to oblige!

SG will consist of a couple dozen scenarios ranging from amphibious assaults to guarding verses bombing runs to massive naval battles outdoing even those seen in world war 2 and let's not forget our Space Forces which have never seen battle which has us really excited about the strategic need of a Space Force and if the tens of billions we spend annually are really worth it.

For this, the proposed Aegean islands will be used for amphibious assaults, the islands off by Sicily will be used for combined naval and air battles.

To this end we are now moving the entirety of our naval forces to the uninhabited islands in the Aegean and the HMSBS Sevestopol and Pax Romanum have brought the Varangian Guard and Carska Garda legions off of Lesbos Island along with a request to use the island for amphibious assaults and inland fighting similar to NATO in Western Germany back during the Cold War. Any damage created by mistake would also provide our engineers needed experience for field repairs and rebuilding any damaged property. We will of course declare all historic sites completely off limits to ensure that they will not be damaged.

There will be three scenarios to start us off: 1. We will have a mass naval/aerial exercise on large fleet engagements and effective blockading tactics against hot and cold targets off of the uninhabited islands along with dealing with shore installations containing massed anti-air/ship weapons.

2. We will have an amphibious assault on hot beaches and then attempting to push past the beachead

3. We will use our space stations as exercises for boarding onto space stations without comprimising the atmosphere in them.

More are to come as we advance.

Edessia, Byzantine and Slavic Byzantium are the starting nations, with Byzantine initally as observers, also gracious enough to provide the grounds for these games. We invite all nations in The Balkans to partake in these exercises to show the mettle of their forces and provide training on the scale of hundreds of thousands.

Let the games begin!

Admiral of the Fleet Basileios Diomedes

Edessia - May 21, 2005 08:17 PM (GMT)
Ah yes, the games have begun, As said before Edessia wishes to be a primary in this operation, we too would like to test our space forces, although they have used satelite and other orbital weaponry before, they have never full experienced battle. We will produce a list soon, sometime.

USSM (Makharovsk) - May 22, 2005 10:42 AM (GMT)
I think our fleet could use a test of strength; we're interested in participating. Or will be as soon as our fleet commander gets out of hospital with a triple heart bypass brought on by reading SB's first dispatches.
OOC: ;)

Commonwealth of Slavic Byzantium - May 23, 2005 03:59 AM (GMT)
ooc: lol yeah I thought I'd shake things up a bit by making things seem like all out war and then 10 minutes later type up the fact it's a war game.

ic: On behalf of Admiral Diomedes we all wish your fleet commander a speedy and safe surgery and recovery. We also sincerely apologize for unintentionally bringing about his deteriated condition and offer anything he might need to recuperate quicker, even a hospital ship to assist him in commanding your fleet while in the war games in a calm atmosphere.

Captain Gabriel Angelos
Commanding Officer
HMSBS Adolf Gustav

Commonwealth of Slavic Byzantium - May 23, 2005 04:08 AM (GMT)
Brothers,

We are more than willing to have USSM join the war game! Would you also like to test your aerial and land forces as well or are you in just for naval and naval air arms(should you have carriers) games?

We will begin within the week upon receiving Byzantine's permission to use Lesbos.

Admiral of the Fleet Basileios Diomedes

-Mostarvia- - May 23, 2005 11:01 AM (GMT)
OFFICIAL MOSTARVIAN GOVERNMENT STATEMENT:

I, The Mostarvian Government and the Mostarvian people have learnt that so called 'war games' are being conducted by The Slavic Byzantium, Edessia, and possibly the USSM, against pretend warships dubbed to be Mostarvian.

I and my people see this act as a serious provocation, and as such is raising it's DEFCOM level to 1. The brave and glorious armed forces and civillians of Mostarvia, all of them patriotic Mostarvians, are on high alert.

The seriousness of the situation should not be ignored. The Red Star Union of Mostarvia sees the movements by The Slavic Byzantium, Edessia and USSM to be serious provocation as already stated, and I reserve the right to take action if this mock attack on mock Mostarvian vessels which is a mock declaration of war on Mostarvia, continues.

It will not be tolerated.

We will crush all those who make themselves a enemy of The Red Star Union of Mostarvia.

President Vladovic, of The People's Red Star Union of Mostarvia

USSM (Makharovsk) - May 23, 2005 04:21 PM (GMT)
Our army and air force would be happy to participate also. I should point out that, due to an unfortunate (but developing) economic situation, we have no carriers operating at this time; our naval aviation consists of helicopters launched from frigates, and also a wing of Mig-21s based at our main naval base. Our fleet commander will be in hospital for some time yet, so his XO (Executive Officer) will be leading our fleet during these exercises. As for Mostarvia, we will not have our nation's agenda dictated to us by murderous thugs such as yourselves, so consider our particpation in any future exercises of this type a given. Good Day.

Byzantian - May 23, 2005 04:49 PM (GMT)
Byzantian ships and commanders will be observing these war games, particularly the space forces, as agreed to previously with nations involved.

Commonwealth of Slavic Byzantium - May 24, 2005 01:20 AM (GMT)
ooc: Hmm...never figured it could construed as offensive...did you ever take your forces off of defcom1? I don't recall.

ic: It was one war game conducted solely by the Slavic Byzantium navy if you could be bothered for a change to not twist things to your favour. It was a war game conducted solely by our own naval forces and involved a very realistic scenario which very well nearly happened on a smaller scale not too long ago so it is conceivably logical to practice for such a possibilty. I do not recall the USSR and Warsaw pact nations being overly offended by NATO war games meant simply as a show of force along with Warsaw Pact war games in return offending NATO nations.

By all means, take whatever action you feel is reasonable to counter the apparently hostile fleets of 3 nations working at full combat readiness expecting attacks to be coming at any time with Byzantine's air bases easily in strtiking range of any truthfully hostile fleet for war games several hundred kilometres away from your nation's EEZ and not even in the Adriatic.

If you are so concerned, feel free to send any observers you wish to. If your forces are as good as you claim, by all means send a flotilla and brigade or two to test "The brave and glorious armed forces and civillians of Mostarvia" ability or even more units for a proper engagement.

Care to prove our scenario wrong?

Admiral of the Fleet Basileios Diomedes

USSM (Makharovsk) - May 24, 2005 05:01 PM (GMT)
It appears that due to ongoing events, the wargames may be delayed this year.
EDIT:
-----------------
Or not, as the case may be. Everyone else ready to begin?

Commonwealth of Slavic Byzantium - June 1, 2005 03:40 AM (GMT)
It has been decided that the first series of war games will involve space forces in a battle solely faced in space. The following units will be used, :space marines and other space based infantry, space vehicles, space stations, and anything that is meant solely for use in space or at least a primary role suited towards that end.

They will commence within the week upon moving units and readying various stations for such maneuvers.

ooc: been super busy, tired, missing some RP elements i'll add in later and such. I can start doing this in a couple days

USSM (Makharovsk) - June 1, 2005 09:23 AM (GMT)
Then I suspect USSM will not get their best showing yet; we haven't put any funding into a space program, and so our only cosmonauts are Barbie dolls wrapped in tin foil. ;)
We could use our anti-satellite weapons, though...
OOC: Exams ATM, so I'll have more time on the Monday after next.

Edessia - June 2, 2005 01:31 AM (GMT)
yeah EXAMS hardcore ATM, so ill be rather out of commision for the next little while, ill prolly be better by next week sometime, but my last exam is the 23rd. But ic an find time in-between.
