Title: Uniting the regions currency!
Description: creating a Unified Balkan Dollar.

Edessia - August 4, 2004 03:14 AM (GMT)
"hello, *tap tap* is this thing on? aha so it is"

"Greatings comrades and compatriots! i am president Jorges Innocente of the Holy Republic of Edessia, i have recently relocated from eastern europe to the Balkans, and i am a pro regional commerce president, and wish to unify the regions currencies under one currency. The Unified Balkan Dollar. Or the UND, for short.
I propose this move with the greatest respect for my fellow nations for allowing me to move to this region! this proposal is to ensure strengthened economic growth in those countries of the region that need a desperate boost in their respectful economies. With a Unified Balkan Dollar we may be able to trade freely without worrying about conversions and tax on currency exchange. Im proposing this to all nations to vote for the Unified Balkan Dollar, and a vote for that is a vote for true free trade!" OOC *im putting up a new poll on this after the post, if not just send one vote per nation in the forums and they shall be tallied up, Thanks*

This is an interesting idea, but it is already in effect.

There is a "Confederacy of United Balkans Nations" in this region, which has adopted the "Unified Balkan Dollar" as its currency.

Check out the Confederacy's forum at http://invisionfree.com/forums/Balkanic_Union/index.php?c=7
for more details.

As for the poll, maybe you should start a new topic with the poll at the beginning.

Excellency: We understand your opinion, however this region does not have a compulsory regional currency. If you join the Unified Balkans Alliance then you must adopt the UBD exclusively. That is why Zahumlje is not a member. We like having a dual currency system! Each land has it's history and Zahumlje has a long history of using the ducat. This was the currency in the Golden Age of Zahumlje.
When a Zahumljani sees a golden ducat in the palm of his hand, he sees the history of his country and the promise of a bright future filled with glory. While there are definate advantages to the regional currency, the Zahumljani people fought so hard to be a free nation that little things like our own currency mean a lot to us.
Imam Hodza Nasrudin
Foreign Minister Zahumlje

Yes i understand your concern Katja, do not worry about your own currency the ducat, as this currency as i forgot to mention is based upon a golden standard and whichever countries join, they will have there flag imprinted onto every legal bill! starting a new age in your history, say yes! and move on to a truly free trading system!!

Excellency: 1, We appreciate our Zahumljani currency! We fought hard to have independance and all the wonderful things independance and statehood bring. 2. When Our Foreign Minister Imam Hodza Nasrudin has something to say he is who is to be addressed. He is the foreign minister for a reason. 3. One reason We love this region is the fact that we can be autonomous as long as we don't start trouble. The same goes for any other member of the region. We will retain all evidences of our hard won freedom, including our currency the Ducat. We remember a visit to Ireland when We were young, We remember their lovely currency with beautiful Celtic art on it and the faces of writers and thought to Ourselves 'Ah what a lovely expression of the unique Celtic and Irish sensibility, if Our nation ever has freedom, it must have as beautiful an expression of Nationhood in every possible way, whether it is currency, music, national dress, foods we like to eat, the prefered wines and spirits, our distinctive breeds of horses and cattle, our distinctive architecture, sports and language, our distinct legal system the 'Kanun Zahumlje'... When we lived as a Nation in Exile we could not live as we chose, we were constrained to live as others told us to live. Mere political independance is not what We speak of in this instance, a special freedom of being, there is no word in most languages for that freedome of being which we of Zahumlje feel defines us.
We value it because it is something of which for so long we were deprived. We will not surrender it for mere economic gain.
We do not expect you to understand, mearly to respect this perspective.
Regards
Katja of Zahumlje
Queen-Komissar

Srpska Kosovo - August 6, 2004 03:25 AM (GMT)
The people of Srpska Kosovo have resoundly defeated efforts to implement the Unified Balkan Dollar as our national currency. Government studies have indicated Kosovars would be much more accepting of a regional currency with a name more rooted in Balkan culture and history. For now, we will continue to use the Kosovo New Dinar.
