Electoral year in Tolomakia
Socialist Party ready to fight for power!
After almost five years of suffering in silence outside the Tolomakian Parliament, the Tolomakian Socialist Party (TSP) is ready to fight for power, said during the press conference organized in the capital city of Bucharest this morning its leader, Mr. Anton Stanescu.
Five years ago TSP reached a historical low point and received only 1.2% of the votes and 0 (zero) mandates in the Parliament. Mr. Stanescu was elected as Chairman of TSP two month ago in a National Congress held in complete anonymity. Today, he is claiming that recent surveys are placing TSP as the main challenge for the Liberal Party (LP), with 23% voting intentions and over 60% trust rate, and rising.
In a long speech Mr. Stanescu pointed out that the long ruling of the Liberals (almost 25 years) have driven Tolomakia towards a severe social crisis. Even if the economic grows is noticeable and is having one of the highest rates in the region, TSP is accusing the liberal government of “channeling all funds towards major corporations and reach people” and “doing nothing for the workers and the pours”. TSP is also accusing the “oligarchy in power” of neglecting the political freedoms which have dropped to “average” according to UN standards.
TSP is promising to its electors that, once in power, it will undertake a large scale social program aiming to level incomes and bring “social and economic equity to the people”. The party is also ready to “fight with all means against the corrupt oligarchy of the corporations”.

Environmentalists speaking up!
Shortly after the TSP press conference it was the Ecologist Movement (EM) to launch their electoral campaign. Even if their popular support has never surpassed 6% of the voters, the Greens have always received enough votes to enter the Parliament where they have constantly been in opposition with the liberal government.
Today, the EM leader, Mrs. Anemona Frunzaverde, tried to take advantage of the recent NPP deal between Tolomakia and The Sultanat (Shogunat) of Oda Nobunaga. The Greens have always asked the Government to cease using any kind of nuclear power, for both military and civil purposes. Mrs Frunzaverde said she is outraged about the plans to build another Nuclear Power on the Black Sea Coast. The new plant, she said, “will put in danger the entire region because the low level of expertise in this field of the Sultanate”.
Mrs Frunzaverde also underlined that making an alliance with the Sultanate shows once more the hypocrisy of the liberals. The Sultanate declared value system based on “patriotism” goes directly against Tolomakian tradition, clearly expressed by the national motto. But “the liberal money lovers”, said Mrs. Frunzaverde, “would do anything to gain one more coin”.
EM is organizing an original protest this Sunday. Taking advantage of the sunny spring days, they are asking people all over Tolomakia to get out of their houses and go in parks or on the streets and make some kind of sports between 12 and 13 hours.
Neither the Liberal Party nor the Government has issued a response regarding the recent position of the Socialists and the Greens.
Daimyo Oda Nobunaga - April 16, 2004 05:40 PM (GMT)
We are concernt about the treaty with Tolomakia.
Montfortslavia - April 16, 2004 09:21 PM (GMT)
Altough Montfortslavia respects the internal political process of any nation, we are concerned by the possibility of a Socialist government in Tolomakia.
To our belief, such government would strain the bilateral relations between our nations.
Srpska Kosovo - April 17, 2004 01:57 AM (GMT)
The Socialist Party of Srpska Kosovo is pleased to learn that our comrades in Tolomokia are moving forward. We remind them that their victory may not come quickly or easily, but it will be achieved if they continue to struggle and remain committed to peaceful change. If the election laws of Tolomakia allow it, we will contribute to the campaign funds of the TSP. We also would like to send a delegation to discuss campaign strategies with the leaders of the TSP. We will continually watch developments in Tolomakia and we welcome the day when socialism dawns there. Workers of the World Unite! - The Socialist Party of Srpska Kosovo
Annoyastan - April 17, 2004 02:13 AM (GMT)
The National Annoyastani Socialist Party wishes to echo the sentiments of our comrades in Kosovo.
The Socialist Fund of the Socialist League is also interested in contributing financially to the TSP, should such contributions be permitted.
We would also encourage the TSP to join your fellow Balkan Socialists in the Socialist League.
best wishes for the future,
Igor Kosorok
Socialist League Representative
People's Republic of Annoyastan
farhad - April 17, 2004 11:10 AM (GMT)
Our nation's socialist party is happy by these developments and hopes the TSP can gain some power and control. It also currently isn't doing very well in ASRF and is hoping a change in your nation will be reflected in my nation. Regardless of any of this though, we will always welcome your nation and support whatever government it fields.

Potential poll scandal
Laggup Institute, one of the most respectable market and social researchers in Tolomakia, released this morning the results of its latest survey:
Liberal Party 30
Christian-Democratic Coallition 10
Ecological Movement 5
National Party 24
Tolomakian Socialist Party 24
Others 7
(all numbers are percents)
The results may trigger a political scandal because is the first time a poll is showing the extreme right Nationalist Party at such high level of popularity. The survey also shows a dramatic fall of the two traditional parties, the Liberals and the Christian-Democrats, while the Socialists are clearly on the rise. The current Parliament configuration, established after the 1999 elections, is as follows:
Liberal Party LP 54
Christian-Democratic Coallition CDC 32
Ecological Movement EM 6
National Party (NP) 8
Tolomakian Socialist Party TSP 0
Others 0
(there is a minimum score of 3% to be attained for a party to enter the Parliament)
Laggup’s experts promised to come back with deeper analyses this week.
farhad - April 19, 2004 01:25 PM (GMT)
Such a raise in popularity of a party does not always indicate a scanel. Certain parties instantly gain support by being more intouch with the general populace especially after certian events. These sort of things can happen quickly and on a large enough scale to change elections just days before the vote (look at the unfortunate incidents in Spain for example). While this should defintely be looked into to see how and why the support has swayed in the Nationalist Party and TSP favor, try to refrain from terming a scandel until you are sure or you will merely be adding fuel to the fire. Please let us know how things turn out and if you need any aid, monitoring help, personel, unbiased reviewers, etc, let us know as we can quickly prep and dispatch some of our top officials in this regard to your region to help stablize things before they get out of hand. Our nation has elections almost every week and so we are very quick and good at analyzing data and finding trends and reasons for sways in popularity.

Angry "answers" from CDC
Mr. Ion Ionescu, spokesman of Christian-Democratic Coalition looked rather sad in the press conference this afternoon. He said that the situation shown by the recent Laggup survey is not about a change in CDC but about a change of the people. Ignoring the laughing of some of the people in the room, Mr. Ionescu continued his speech showing that the so called “liberal” policies that Tolomakia witnessed in the last 20 years have dramatically changed the mentality of the people who are starting to forget the Christian values that have defined the country for centuries.
“How is it possible to accept same-sex marriages?” Ionscu shouted, and he continued: “and this is only one example of many. To remind you about the crazy decision of appointing a spiritual advisor that resigned the next day? Or about the teachers that are using in school pagan books like Harry Potter? Or about the fact that children are regularly seen in the Casinos? ” Really mad at that point Ionescu didn’t waste the occasion to remind that for years the UN reports are showing that in Tolomakia the department of Religion & Spirituality is receiving almost no funds.
“And what happened with the people that lost faith in God?” Ionescu asked rhetorically, “do you think they’ve turned to vote the Liberals?! No, sir, they are raising the lines of the Socialist and Nationalists! Isn’t that what the Liberals have always wanted? To destroy the real democratic opposition of CDC by creating some puppets like Mihai Surdu and his so-called Nationalist Party! Now the puppets are turning against their master! Let’s see how the Liberals can cope with the Communist and Nationalists united!” Ionescu closed and abruptly leaved the conference.
Ionescu’s tone wasn’t a surprise for most of the analysts. The frustration of being second accumulated in time exploded a few months ago when Manole Ciungu, leader of the CDC’s radical Christian faction, left the party and joined the Nationalists, followed by many others. For years CDC program was a strange mix of Christian teaching and measures of social protection and today it looks like the religious radicals are joining NP and the left thinkers TSP, each of them hoping to overthrown the Liberals.

Recent evolutions
(OOC: I’ve been extremely busy at work and I didn’t had the time to continue the elections topic. I will try to make some kind of update now - long post)
April 22,
Coming out from the weekly Cabinet meeting, Mr. Andrei Mihnea , Foreign Affaires Ministry and prominent Libera Party member, answered a few questions regarding the current electoral declarations.
Mihnea started with a brief speech on the topic, arguing that the electoral campaign is only to start on May 6, one month prior to general elections on June 6, so the Liberal Party sees no reason to get involved in what he called “demagogical game of the other parties”.
When asked about the Laggup’s recent poll, Mihnea agreed that the results are probably correct in the context but he also noted that the percent presented to the public were referring to the 36% of the population who actually has a clear option, while other 31% were undecided or gave no answer and 23% said they are not going to vote this year. While concerned about the lack of participation in public affaires, Mihnea also said that this is probably the result of the simple fact that the current Government has done a great job and people will recognize this in the Election Day.
Regarding the Liberal Party electoral strategy, Mihnea said that the party will only show the great results of its mandate and let people decide if LP deserves their confidence. Mihnea underlined the Liberals are not likely to start any kind of negative campaign against its adversaries.
On the Nationalist Party issue, Mihnea pointed that it’s probably only a matter of circumstances and there is no real extremist threat. The Ministry also made a surprise declaration about Mihai Surdu, the Nationalist’s leader, being investigated for possible fiscal frauds.
Finally, when asked about the Socialist awakening, Mihnea seemed rather nervous about the subject. He announced that the Government takes the Socialist threat very serious both in Tolomakia and abroad. Mihnea didn’t waste any time to remind about what “catastrophe” for the Tolomakia booming economy would be the introducing state control mechanism as TSP’s program is promising. Also, Mhena said that the Government just established a Urgent Interventions Fund to be used by the Foreign Affaires Ministry in helping any movement that struggles against oppressive regimes in any country of the Balkans. The Ministry didn’t offered any other details about this new initiative.
------
April 26,
“They are all a bunch of traitors that have sold their souls to the Devil!” shouted Mihai Surdu in a press conference, referring to the Liberals, Socialist, Greens and any other political opponents.
In his two-hours long speech Surdu appealed to all his old tricks about the Curch, the Nation, the Country and solemnly announced that after NP will win the elections Tolomakia will radically change both its internal and external policies. “There will be no more Tolomakian involvement in regional activities”, Surdu said, and “a large scale social protection program will be enable”.
“The minimum wage will be around 500 euros and every income that surpass 1000 euro will be subject of a 80% tax”.
“The Tolomakian Ortodox Church will become the National Church and part of the state”, “the Church High Hierarchs and the Army Generals will be members for life in the Parliament, the national minorities will be forced to adopt Tolomakian customs and traditions and the country will use force against any outsider that will dare to challenge our way”.
This is the picture of the future Tolomakia in Surdu’s opinion and many journalists remaind speechless when he said the main source of money for its program will be “nationalization of all industries”. “We’ll kick the omnipotent corporations out of the country”.
Rumors circulating within the NP are showing that Surdu just went crazy when the Government let out evidence regarding his fiscal frauds. Surdu claims everything is just a dirty trick to stop him winning the election. However, many voices are saying that the evidences are true and the Police just kept them safe to be used at the right time. It is also said that the newly arrived in the party, former CDC leader Manole Ciungu, is trying to marginalize Surdu to minimize the damage made by its foolish declarations.

April 28,
TSP organized a press conference to announce that the party decided to apply in the near future for membership in the Balkans International Socialist League. Anton Stanescu stated that TSP does not have the necessary resources to fight a dirty campaign that he envisage following the recent declarations of Andrei Mihnea.
Stanescu said he does not believe a word from the good intentions expressed by the Liberals and he is sure that they are going to use their political and economical influence over the mass-media to manipulate the public opinion.
The TSP leader also expressed his concern over the recent developments in foreign affaires policy, saying that the Government decision to get involved in the internal affaires of other nations is totally unacceptable. He also mentioned that probably the Liberals will use the Fund to act against other socialist states and to hit back TSP by doing that.
-----
May 1st,
TSP organized a huge celebration for the Labor Day all over Tolomakia. Judging from the number of people presented, it seems like TSP was indeed a real chance to win the elections. There are still many skeptics arguing that most of the people came into the streets to enjoy some time in the sun and, of course, the free beer generously offered by the Socialists.
During the manifestation in Capital, TSP officials announced that Mrs. Victoria Cincu was designated to represent the party at the Balkans International Socialist League. Mrs. Cincu is expected to present the TSP request of joining to BISL sometime during next week.
-------
May 3rd,
“So, the Socialist finally decided to join the Comintern?” asked Mr. George Vulpe, the Ministry of Internal Affaires when questioned about LP’s and Government’s position on the matter. “What can I say”, Vulpe continued, “we will be vigilant about any actions of those communist that may endanger our nation”.
Vulpe remembered the reports from former New Garneria about a strange character named Igor Kozorok serving chocolate and mango drinks to the poor people during the government collapse. “How much crazy a person must be to do such thing?” Vulpe asked, continuing: “this shows how much respect TSP deserves, joining such League of lunatics”.
Srpska Kosovo - May 4, 2004 05:56 PM (GMT)
The Socialist Party of Srpska Kosovo (SPK) is pleased to present Mr. Anton Stanescu of the Tolomakia Socialist Party with a check for 11,250,000 Kosovo Dinars ($2.5 million US) to assist their efforts in the election. In addition the SPK is interested in an exchange program with the TSP with members from each party attending traing in the other nation. Wishing the TSP victory in its struggle for social equality, - President Dragan Karonovic (SPK Chairman)
