Title: Toward the Festival
Description: logistical & organizational discusssions

Thracia - March 16, 2004 06:38 PM (GMT)
To the governments, the movie fans, and the students of the Balkans,

This forum is for the upcoming student film festival.

You may use this thread to discuss and determine all the details about how and where and when to organize this festival.

The government of Thracia promises to help and support this festival logistically and economically.

Paradiszia - March 16, 2004 09:16 PM (GMT)
*ahem*Because Paradiszia is now back in the Balkans, and the student film festival was planed, and coordinated by me the film festival will go on as planed in Paradiszia City(Rome).I have already got everything in place.

Annoyastan - March 16, 2004 11:26 PM (GMT)
*ahem*

Have you *discussed* this with the government of Zahumlje?

After you left the region, Zahumlje stepped forward and offered to host the festival, and has been proceeding with preparations. Additionally, Zahumlje has recently said that it plans to go ahead with the festival.

An attempt to re-assert control over the film-festival -- without discussing this and coming to some sort of an agreement with Zahumlje -- would not be viewed favorably by Annoyastani Filmic Arts.

Director
Annoyastani Filmic Arts

Paradiszia - March 16, 2004 11:34 PM (GMT)
Right, then as I was saying, Zahumlje do you object to Paradiszia retaking control of the festival? If so, I'm willing to work something out to make us both happy.

Just look at the lovely work of His Excellency Mr. Craven's nephew, Oivo! Would it not be a sad and sorry waste to have the Balkans International Student Film Festival elsewhere after all that effort?

The motif of this poster is the Castle at Stjepanagrad, prior to renovations, the Royal Arms of Zahumlje, a lenze, and the Festival name. It is so beautifully and cleverly done!

The Zahumlje Institute of Film Arts has requested submissions. They can be sent to this forum.
Format as follows,
Name of Film:
Director:
Writer:
School and grade level of entrant:
Nation:
Catagory:
Catagories include, Drama, Comedy, Historical,Musical, (NOT to be mistaken for music video!)
All works are to be the original work of the student. All actors, writers, directors, and so forth are to be students, it is alright if the film is developed by a non student. Of course the name of the proffessional developer needs to be included, if this circumstance applies.

So many here are looking forward to this. Massive building projects to make room for the expected visitors from throughout the Balkans and indeed the World at large are underway. It would just totally upset everyone if it did not go forward here.
Best Wishes

Thracia - March 17, 2004 07:00 PM (GMT)
Yes, the poster is truly impressive!!!

It would be a shame if this poster were prepared for naught.

Katja of Zahumlje - March 17, 2004 09:27 PM (GMT)
Excellencies: We have injured Our thumb today, opening a tin of corned beef
We want to thank Jan Picarzyk's nephew Oivo for his fine work, he is adding in the dates. and of course the location, Stjepanagrad. We have been busily improving infrastructure, removeing unsightly advertising signs so that the lovely scenery of Zahumlje can be appreciated in it's full glory. The cranes are back for the first time since the Civil War. So much to see ...

Oh, oooooh, your serious?Well...humm.... *thinks*...... I.....I--um.....yeah, I'm just going to get some tea (wine) and attend a meeting (social party).

Katja of Zahumlje - March 19, 2004 06:18 AM (GMT)
Excellencies: Damn right we're serious!
A lot of Zahumljani have been busy putting this together since Paradizia was absent from the region.
We noted too reports of difficulties in Paradizia what with bans on students attending the Festival in Zahumlje and the Red Guard being called out itd.

Thracia - March 19, 2004 06:02 PM (GMT)
Would Paradiszia and Zahumlje consider joint hosting of this festival?

The festival could have two stages, or two parts. One part can take place in Paradiszia and the other in Zahumlje.

Katja of Zahumlje - March 19, 2004 06:32 PM (GMT)
Excellencies: We do not think it can be done in just a weekend, if that is to be the plan. We would like to see two weeks, One week in Zahumlje and one week in Paradizia. It should work out well since it is in the Summer when most people, students included are on yearly vacation. We suggest each of us take half the catagories. We'd like historical and musicals, and Paradizia could take comedy and drama. That way light subjects and heavy subjects would go to each Nation and each could have the privelege of final decision on some catagory. In a way this is a goo way to have more fairness in the judgeing and it would accomadate more films.
Entrants simply would send their entry to the appropriate venue for viewing and judgeing. Of course haveing a longer festival makes more opportunity to enjoy the fine work of budding Balkans film makers.

Annoyastan - March 19, 2004 10:37 PM (GMT)
We like the idea of a two week plan, perhaps with a week or two off in-between, to allow travelers to go home for awhile before heading to the other venue.

Would documentaries be included in the festival?

Jean Picarzyk
Annoyastani Filmic Arts

Paradiszia - March 20, 2004 12:39 AM (GMT)
Students in Paradiszia do not have a vacation, and I want historical and musicals. Not like there are too many students left after the massacre....

Katja of Zahumlje - March 20, 2004 05:30 AM (GMT)
Excellencies: Documentation is included. A week off inbetween seems sensible. History and Musicals to Paraddizia seems fine to the Zahumlje Institute of Film Arts.
It's odd that vacation time for students is not part of Paradizia's education plan. Most Socialist countries have very good vacation allowances, at the minimum as an incentive to the workers. A months vacation at least was taken for granted in nearly every Communist and Socialist country.
For questions on Documentation from Zahumlje, consult the application packet which has been sent out generally through out the region.
Here are a few FAQs.
1. Registration with Border Police, this can be handled either at the Aerodrome or by the place of accomadation, hotel, pension, autocamp, hostel, the Festival City, etc. If staying in private accomadations, then the responsibility devolves upon the Foreign Visitor. Some number of students will be staying as private guests, particularly those with Zahumljani relatives.

Annoyastan - March 20, 2004 12:26 PM (GMT)
I think there is a misunderstanding. I was referring to film documentaries. Such as Fog of War, Seven Capos, The Fury of the Czar, Winged Migration, and R-evolve.
Would those have a separate catagory?

Jean Picarzyk
Annoyastani Filmic Arts

Annoyastan - March 20, 2004 12:47 PM (GMT)
Given the current situation in Paradiszia, and the statements of the Government of Paradiszia, Annoyastan believes the Student Film Festival should remain entirely in Zahumlje. The safety of students in Paradiszia seems questionable.

PO Craven
Prime Minister

Katja of Zahumlje - March 21, 2004 05:44 AM (GMT)
Excellencies: I am begining to think the same way . Did you know the people in Stjepanagrad are calling the massacre of Paradizian students 'Malo Tlalteloco' That is a word play, 'malo' is in Naski, masculine singular for 'little' and in Spanish the masculine form of the word 'bad'.
The people in Zahumlje are totally puzzled about events in Paradizia, particularly the attitude towards Zahumlje, there used to be a pretty decent level of co:operation. Paradizia used to be a good partner in the Balkans International Socialist organization too.
OK, I realize I digressed considerably. Sometimes I look at the stack of stuff on my desk a little too fast. I'm dizzy, spent the morning preventing a strike in the Municipal Methane Electric Plant, and read very fast.
About the documentary catagory, yes there can be a documentary catagory. These will be judged on quality of research in addition to the usual filmic criteria. This means in addition to the film a list of reference works should be submitted. This is kind of an academic catagory.
Sorry for the mis-understanding.

We are interested in founding this event.

Katja of Zahumlje - March 23, 2004 03:54 AM (GMT)
Excellencies: Submissions of films to the festival are conspicuous by their total absence!
It looks like Zahumlje had best set the example.

so here are the first Zahumljani entries to BISFF.

Documentary 'The Story of Zahumljani Easter Eggs: Bojko Zidaric and Ana Mekmetovic
Gimnaszija, Jan Sobieska III, Stjepanagrad
Drama Voices in the Night: Adnan Imamovic, Tikka Filipovic, Jela Vukovic
Gimnazija Kralj Tvrtko Tomasagrad

Musical Flamenco y Toros: Marijo Sevilla, Nedelko Huerta Nada Flores
These are the first three entrants from Zahumlje
Escuela Espanol, Blizanaci Vrh

I'm glad that these industrious Zahumljani students got the ball rolling. I hope that others will soon follow suit. Time is flying.

You may want to consider some sort of simulcast arrangement, as was done with the PeZ festival, where the last day was simulcast in New Achea.

Student film projects are just being completed, and announcements of entries from Annoyastan should be coming shortly.

She leaves him one day while he is supposedly at work, packing her belongings into an old Volkswagen and driving to Xpra. She films her story as she packs and leaves, and the major part of the film is a long monologue as she drives to Xpra, guessing as to what he is doing as she drives, analyzing their failed relationship, and talking on cell phone to various friends and family. A stunning performance by Nikkita Samskaz, who wrote, directed, and starred in the film. “Heartbreaking and Hilarious,” says Trok Bareklk, critic at the Xpra Socialist Daily Mail.

Katja of Zahumlje - April 11, 2004 01:26 AM (GMT)
Excellencies: The BISF committee is opent to haveing part of the Festival in Paradizia, there was a division of catagories previously, that was seen at the time as a fair means of divideing it up. We had negotiated a prior arrangement, then the government in Paradizia underwent changes. We remember there was something about Paradizia taking Historical and Comedy and Zahumlje taking Comedy and Musicals, then Documentaries were added, We think showing some Documentaries in Paradizia and some in Zahumlje would be fair.
Sorry for the delay in answer but to keep a committee composed of Zahumljani is like minding mice at a crossroads or herding cats.
If Paradizia has a preference for a different arrangement We are open to it. We thinik it would be nice to add the following three day weekend to the Festival, 21, 22,23 of May, in Paradizia.
That way everyone gets the benefit of seeing things in Rome as well as Stjepanagrad.
Simulcast can be done in both Capitols too. So the portion in Zahumlje gets simulcast in Rome and the Roman portion gets simulcast in Stjepanagrad.

Another submission from a student in Annoyastan:

The Greedy Capitalist Oligarchs are Sucking the Very Life’s-Blood Out of the Balkans!
(musical)
directed by Tania Pixalix
University of PeZ
88 minutes
The story of the political awakening of a young college student in PeZ.
Tatanya is a young art student who is tempted by capitalist lies as an oligarch industrialist plies her with gifts and glitz, attempting to exploit her wholesome innocence. Tatanya realizes that something is wrong, however, and at the last minute is saved by the example of a young student socialist leader martyr. The music is a mix of modern rock and classic Annoyastani folk tunes, written by the director and performed by several student artists. Songs include:
“(What’s so Wrong About) Fine Silk Shirts?”
“Please, Exploit Me!”
“He Loves the Workers (He Loves to Watch them Work)”
“Tatanya’s Morning”.

Excellencies: There is no objection to a brewery sponsoring the festival per se: however many festival attendees will be underage, and Her Majesty would like to know if this brewery makes a non-alcholic beer? If so that would be an appropriate tie in.
