Title: Balkan Football (Soccer) League?
Description: Voice your opinions!
New Achaea - December 5, 2003 05:04 PM (GMT)
Although this topic has been brought up in another post, it couldn't hurt to give it its own section, just to make sure everyone can see this.
Well, as we have yet to develop on the Mediterranean-Balkan football tournament proposed by Thracia, should we consider forming a Balkan Football League? This would form under a season format, with standings, weekly results, etc. The only thing is, as we wouldn't want to see this league fall apart midway, we would ask that atleast one other nation, two if possible, volunteer to help run this league. Also, if anyone has any suggestions on the specifics of the league (scoring format, updates, maybe even short summaries/press releases of each match).
So, obviously, we can't put much forward as far as how this league should be set up, but then again we're confident that the rest of you will have some great ideas for it. So, if you're interested in putting a team into the Balkan Football League, or if you want to take the next step and help run it or just put up some thoughts on it, feel free to post below or telegram us personally.
Best wishes,
Friedrich Bacchus - Chairman of Recreation and Social Events for New Achaea
byzanthine - December 5, 2003 05:45 PM (GMT)
I support your idea. Count me in.
Hey, lets make it similar to UEFA Champios League...or at least a special Champions League tournament to include Mediterranean if they join. I will talk more about this after tomorrow, i am really busy today.
Thracia - December 5, 2003 06:44 PM (GMT)
Maybe New Achaea has already done this, but we would suggest that it consult with Annoyastan on the technical details woth regard to how to organize and conduct a football tournament.
Pavao Marijan I - December 5, 2003 10:36 PM (GMT)
A question: Which format should have this tournament? the teams shall be nations or clubs?
Annoyastan - December 6, 2003 01:00 PM (GMT)
Annoyastan would participate in this league. We would suggest that local clubs be chosen to represent the nation as a whole.

byzanthine - December 6, 2003 05:17 PM (GMT)
I support the use of National teams for the tournament. That will fit better in order to allow other regions teams.
Federation of Pepestonia - December 7, 2003 02:58 AM (GMT)
OOC: We could give it more realism if we could find a website like the Fantasy Football online where we could create teams under our names and carry out more realistic matches, not determined only by randomn desitions.
Does anyone know of such a website ?
The Bulgarite - December 7, 2003 06:16 PM (GMT)
OOC: I know of two such websites: www.simsoc.com and www.hattrick.org.
Thracia - December 7, 2003 07:26 PM (GMT)
We would like New Achaea to come up with a detailed soccer tournament proposal.
The two web-sites are very interesting (Thank you Bulgarite), but can we establish our own tournament there or do we have to take part in an already formed tournament and compete with lots of other players, which we did not choose?
The Bulgarite - December 7, 2003 07:53 PM (GMT)
I have seen some other such sites but i cannot find their addresses. However, there is one thing all of them have in common-you cannot create your own tournament.
When I have more time I will try and search for more sites, but it is doubtful we will find a site where you could create your own tournament.
New Commonwealth - December 8, 2003 12:37 AM (GMT)
The New Commonwealth would like to express its support of a regional soccer tournament. We would also be willing and ready to supply a team for the matches.
New Achaea - December 8, 2003 07:29 AM (GMT)
As far as a detailed schedule, we would rather wait and see if we can find a website where we can set up a tournament. We would like to ask for about a week before we can report back on progress at all, but given the feedback from the region, we think this league would work well and get a good amount of participation. As mentioned before, we didn't have a clear idea of how this would take place, but in the meantime, if anyone else has an idea for this league's set-up, please don't hesitate to let us know.
New Achaea - December 8, 2003 07:36 AM (GMT)
Also, personally we're in favor of a club team league, not national. We should keep that to the Renaissance Cup. When in doubt, just use your capital city as the home/name for the club (e.g. PeZ Dispensers, you may remember).
Yugo - December 8, 2003 02:28 PM (GMT)
My Sport ministry and my nation is preprared to join New Jugoslavian football team and alse 3 clubs into this league if will be created.
New Achaea - December 9, 2003 08:11 PM (GMT)
Well, as much as we're thrilled about your enthusiasm, Yugo, we'll probably limit this league to a one-team-per-nation limit simply for logistics.
OOC: IN the meantime, I'm still browsing through some fantasy soccer websites that have the options of creating your own league (there are quite a few), but these are largely based on the European leagues, and for those of us in America who have limited access to news from the premier leagues (including myself, unfirtunately), this seemed unfair.
However, I did find another sight which I only caught a glimpse of. If you guys want to check this out, there may be the option of creating a seperate league. The address is WWW.SUNDAYLEAGUE.COM, and it seemed very user-friendly. In the meantime, I'll keep looking for a home for this league.
Thracia - December 10, 2003 01:20 AM (GMT)
Thank you very much for your efforts, New Achaea.
For this future league, Thracia has designated the Burgas Seagulls, the best team in our country.
The Bulgarite - December 10, 2003 08:38 PM (GMT)
FC Cherveno Zname will represent The Bulgarite in this future league. FC Cherveno Zname has won 7 national championships (including last years) in the last 10 years.
New Achaea - December 11, 2003 09:06 PM (GMT)
OOC: Ok then, I did find a user-friendly sim soccer website, with the option to create minileagues. Everyone check out WWW.CRAZYSOCCER.COM to see this. For some reason, I can't create a minileague (probably because of my internet access), but if anyone else can create a team and then a league, we can get this started!
NOTE: The players are all based on English Premier League soccer, but they have point values to them (so it's plain to see which players are better), and every team is given a maximum amount of money to spend on hiring players, so the teams will probably be well balanced. Good luck and let me and everyone else know if you've got the league up!
The Bulgarite - December 11, 2003 09:35 PM (GMT)
OOC: Nice website but I also have problems with setting up a minileague. And only up to 15 teams can participate in such a minileague.

PO Craven
Prime Minister
byzanthine - December 12, 2003 05:39 PM (GMT)
Byzanthine will be represented by the team ¨Royal Constantinople¨. This newly created team is the former Arsenal of Dorytaleum team that represented us during the previous Reinassance Cup, with some new changes. The Arsenal still exist as a new team in Dorytaleum.
New Achaea - December 12, 2003 06:03 PM (GMT)
Much thanks to Montfortslavia for using his superior connections to set up this league!
Ajax United will represent New Achaea in the league
Thracia - December 12, 2003 07:23 PM (GMT)
OOC: When I tried to register my team I got this message:
"We are experiencing some minor server problems. Please try your request again shortly."
Is this a general problem or is ti just a prblem having to do with my connection?
The Bulgarite - December 12, 2003 08:33 PM (GMT)
OOC: First a BIG "Thank you!" to Montfortslavia for setting up the league.
To Thracia: I have just registerd and there were no problems, so this must be a problem with your connection or with the server.
Annoyastan - December 13, 2003 01:29 PM (GMT)
General Questions:
How long should we wait for teams to sign up?
Should we choose players now, or should we wait till everyone who is going to play has signed up?
How long is the season?
?
Rogo Takkich, Coach/GM – Graspers of Pelf
byzanthine - December 13, 2003 04:18 PM (GMT)
Well, i already signed players...didnt know there was a waiting of some sort....
Perussia - December 13, 2003 06:57 PM (GMT)
Even though I'm no longer a member of The Balkans, can I still participate in this league? And if so, how do I select players for my team?
Thracia - December 14, 2003 06:32 PM (GMT)
Thracia has finally managed to establish its team at
http://uk.premiership.fantasysports.yahoo.comWe have formed a line-up for week 17, but not for week 16.
Annoyastan - December 15, 2003 12:16 AM (GMT)
CONFUSION RAMPENT IN BALKAN LEAGUE!
I might suggest that we form a new group and all pick players immediately, so that we can all start off on equal footing next week. It looks like only 8 teams so far. This would give us one more week to recruit other nations.
Rogo Takkich, Coach/GM – Graspers of Pelf
Annoyastan - December 15, 2003 12:22 AM (GMT)
If people are in favor of this idea, I have created a new group, the Balkan Football Association.
Group ID is 65887
Password is fresh
Rogo Takkich, Coach/GM – Graspers of Pelf
Annoyastan - December 15, 2003 12:25 PM (GMT)
Well, it appears this plan will not work, as one of the teams from the older league transferred in with its points intact.
other ideas, options?
The Bulgarite - December 15, 2003 07:41 PM (GMT)
I have one idea. We could just subtract the points, the nations have won so far, from their total points.
Montfortslavia - December 16, 2003 04:07 AM (GMT)
byzanthine - December 20, 2003 10:12 PM (GMT)
Federation of Pepestonia - January 3, 2004 07:36 AM (GMT)
Real Pepestonia to change Coach, announced team.
Team´s poor performance to have caused changes.
AFP-The Directive of the Real Pepestonia, the nation´s representative football team to the Renaissance Cup announced this morning the removal of Massimo DelPiero as Coach of the team.
On a press conference offered today, Andre Jakovic, spokesman for the Real Pepestonia FootBall Asociation commented: "Mr. DelPiero´s leadership of the team had been greatly appreciated, and we all take into memory his historycal triumph on the Pepestonias Football Championship. However, we feel that it has come time for a new helmnsman for the team to be in tune for today´s competitive level."
Rumors speculated in past weeks about his possible removal from the team, given a desastrous performance of the team that has placed them so far in the 5th place of the cup.
When commented on who would be taking up to DelPiero´s charge, the Club refused to make any comments so far, but speculations point out to possible another Italian or German coach to try to correct the team´s performance and place the team ina better ranking, before the Cup ends.
Annoyastan - January 3, 2004 01:38 PM (GMT)
The Government of Annoyastan is dissatisifed with the current formation of the Balkan Football League, and is considering beginning a new league, which would have head to head competition, more along the lines of Cup Championship held in PeZ.
would current teams be in favor of a new league?
Or would current teams prefer to continue on as is?
Rogo Takkich, Coach/GM – Graspers of Pelf
Thracia - January 3, 2004 06:52 PM (GMT)
Yes, the current championship is confusing. We still have not figured out how we can get more points.
Besides, it doesn't have a football tournament "feel".
We would be grateful if Annoyastan organizes another championship and decides to spend a considerable amount of time and energy on that.
