Title: Is Research banned?
Description: Is the research of nuclear apps. banned?

Yugoslovenia - October 6, 2003 02:54 AM (GMT)
We were just wondering, is the research of nuclear applications banned in the region? We ask this because since we have so much uranium in access, we were thinking of refining it further to apply to medical and military uses. If we decide to use it in nuclear weapons, we would probably just sell them to friendly nations we know. Many of them are involved in conflicts around the world...elaboration is confidential. But we just hope that the region is not totally against nuclear research.

Thracia - October 6, 2003 05:39 AM (GMT)
No, nuclear research for peaceful purposes is NOT banned in this region.

In fact we have not developed a strong-enough control mechanism on nuclear issues that would be able to enforce a ban even on nuclear weapons.

That is one of the most serious weaknesses of the Balkans.

Thank you for you honesty. We will take this into consideration.

New Commonwealth - October 9, 2003 03:45 AM (GMT)
The Commonwealth believes strict government control of nuclear research is necessary to ensure that such research and development is used only for peaceful and constructive purposes and to avoid allowing sensitive data to fall into the wrong hands.

Yugoslovenia - October 10, 2003 02:58 AM (GMT)
We totally agree. That is why we asked, because, like stated above, we have A LOT of excess uranium and other precious radioactive metals. Thanks NC.

New Commonwealth - October 10, 2003 05:38 PM (GMT)
The Commonwealth, reassured by the Thracian government that peaceful nuclear research is not banned, has decided to move forward with positive humane development of our nuclear assets. As we speak, our nationally based Ultor Corporation is currently developing facilities for fusion energy research. In addition, Parliament has approved a $50 billion UBD's (Unified Balkan Dollars) request to develop efficient hydrogen fuel cells.

The Council has also decided to declare the Commonwealth a Nuclear Weapons free zone. Any development of nuclear weapons are henceforth banned within the confines of the nation. The Commonwealth has dedicatead itself only to the peaceful applications of atomic research.
