Title: Something's Wrong With The World
Curveball - March 26, 2004 01:55 AM (GMT)
You know what's wrong with the world? Stereotyping.
If you're a guy the no one likes or you say the stupidest things, you're automatically gay, inferring that you're sexual preference depends on how popular you are or how many friends you have.
And if you're a girl that says ditsy things, you're blonde.
Notice how it says "I'm Still Gay" in my signature. This is an example of stereotyping. Someone who has access to change my signature simply doesn't like me. So, now I'm Gay. And I'm sure someone's going to edit this post making it seem like I am gay.
But is it bad to be gay? People can say it's bad to be straight.
And by the way, I am, indeed, straight.
Cone Potter - March 26, 2004 01:57 AM (GMT)
Ok! I'm sick of it! The next person who screws with another person's profile, avatar, sig, or whatever is getting a big suspension or is getting banned! I'm sick of this stuff!

Quit your whining and do something about it instead of bitching about it in a topic. <_<
Cone Potter - March 26, 2004 02:02 AM (GMT)
What can he do. We both know the one who did it is an admin.
Angelus - March 26, 2004 02:03 AM (GMT)
We he can do is talked to the Admin who did it and get some sort of truce privately isntead of having the whole board hearing about it.
Cone Potter - March 26, 2004 02:25 AM (GMT)
We tried, but Curve went on a friggin rant. He was acting totally stupid.

Hold on. I didn't make this thread to complain about how someone changed my sig. I made this thread to try to get a message through to you people. I guess I should've known that no one would understand what I was trying to get through.
Cone Potter - March 26, 2004 02:59 AM (GMT)
Curve, I go through it everyday almost. People calling me gay because I do this or i don't do that. It's not only you! I understand.
Curveball - March 26, 2004 03:10 AM (GMT)
This is not about me. This is about everybody. Stereotyping is wrong and it should stop whether it's at NG or at school.

I completely understand but once again since your stuck in your own little world you wouldn't think I do.
And what do you mean, are you claiming that the whole board is doing this? what do you mean when you say 'you people', as far as I know an Admin did this, ONE Admin. Not the whole fricking board, if you what to point it out to these 'people', THAN YOU POINT IT OUT TO THOSE PEOPLE instead of dragging the whole board down with it.
And if this topic is suppose to be some sort of sympathy kick, it's a meaningless joke, GROW UP!
In this case, because this Admin said you were gay, didn't mean that you were actually gay. Gay in this form is just another word for stupid, dumb, retarded, and whatever name you can call up. This has nothing to do with sexuality.
Curveball - March 26, 2004 03:32 AM (GMT)
If he meant that I was stupid, don't you think he would say stupid instead of gay?

There is many possible reasons that he didn't call you stupid directly, but I'm not going to sit here and write them all out.
My best guess is the reason he didn't use stupid directly is because of teenage slang, people hardly use direct words anymore. Like people say Arse instead of butt, it's all about which word is cooler, yes, there is popularity questionable but its all about what's cool to say at the moment.
If you want to know that, than I think you should ask him yourself because I'm not going to speak for the person that did this. I'm speaking on behalf of the board.
So just quit dragging this on and change your signature, move on, it's meaningless.

honestly, i agree with curveball here. i'm anti-sterytyping. it's ruining kids and the world's future. it's disgusting. it's like a bible of guidlines "if you asian your smart, if your blonde your dumb, black people are trouble makers, if your male and like pink your gay; only girls shall like pink, if your mexican your dirty, your a man your not supposed to shop..." BLAH! i hear that everyday in America and it seems to spread. people treat other people cruely because of this, even when there's blondes that are perfectly smart as brown haired people.
and just because an admin brought this up somewhere, i haven't seen anything so i wouldn't know. but curveball is trying to give you a peice of what's on his mind; his oppinion and here you all are being up tight about it, isn't this a message board?
i'm surprised this topic was brought up, kids usually don't notice this type of issue and i'm proud of curveball for bringing this up, wether or not he's "bitching" :umm: it's some of you who look like your not willing to listen and that's exactly why steriotyping lives on; that's dissapointing.
Cone Potter - March 26, 2004 01:15 PM (GMT)
I feel kinda the same way. I get called gay sometimes, but that dosen't make it fact. It's just someone's outrageously biased opinion.

Wow, that was awesome! At least someone agrees with me.
Cone Potter - March 26, 2004 11:03 PM (GMT)
I agree with also to a degree.
pinchy - March 27, 2004 09:41 AM (GMT)
Not this again, didn't we go through this once before? It is so easy to catch people who change others signatures and stuff (and it's not just admins, you can do it through the mod CP), all an admin has to do is go into the admin CP and look at the admin and mod logs, the logs can't be altered (to the best of my knowlege) so it's just stupid.
But who calls people "gay" anyway? There are so many more clever and original things to say. Calling someone "gay" just proves that you are an ignoramus (get out your dictionary :P ). Sterotyping is just a waste of time, insult people on their merits (or lack of), most actual "gay" people don't care if you call them "gay" anyway, it's what they call themselves, open your eyes and "the truth shall set you free."
Note that this post is pink. Why? To show that I don't give a damn, grow up and quit this pre-school name calling (I am referring to the world in general here, now just one or two people).
Cone Potter - March 27, 2004 04:22 PM (GMT)
Some of the people in my school need to read this topic.
syn - April 23, 2004 05:34 AM (GMT)
Well batman I think even if they read this they wouldn't change. I personally think stereotyping is one of the more irrelevant things man kind needs to work on. Who craes what people think of you, like yourself for who you are. Mankind has bigger problems than stereotyping...oh ya and I'm back \/\/007 \/\/007!!!

Well, the thing is it is homosexuality is seen as wrong in society, whereas straightness is seen as normal. And you are right on the stereotyping thing. People think just because I into all this kiddie stuff like cartoons that I am immature. Also I think society shuns us teens to much as rotten, horrible, thoughtless, nasty people and it is unfair.
the_cobbinator - April 24, 2004 04:16 AM (GMT)
Umm, hate to burst your bubble, but in today's society, calling someone gay usually doesn't infer sexual prefernces. If I call something gay (which is not at all often) I mean it is really dumb, or stupid. Also, calling someone gay isn't stereotyping. Stereotyping, by definition, is:
1. A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image.
An example of a stereotype would be "If your username is Curveball you are gay". Basically, all I'm saying is that this is being taken way to seriously, and in the wrong context.

that's pretty much the point I'm trying to get a cross....couldn't of said it better myself.
Aprianne - April 29, 2004 12:59 AM (GMT)
this stuff is dumb
i hate sterotyping
Cone Potter - April 29, 2004 01:07 AM (GMT)
Steroetypes are a bunch of idiots who, in the calling people gay case, don't really believe the other person is gay, they know they're not, they try to make themselves feel better by saying somebody who dosen't have the problem they have has the problem they have.
syn - April 30, 2004 12:45 PM (GMT)
ok first of all batman that last part of your post was confusing and lost me. second of all I think stereo typing isn't about ones self so much as about trying to make that person look cool in the eyes of his "friends" maybe every once in a while they do it to feel better, but mainly it's them trying to look cool. Listen don't ever take crap from someone, and you shouldn't care what anyone thinks about you. Stick up for yourself.
Stitch - May 1, 2004 03:05 AM (GMT)
Wow. It really isn't a big deal. I have been called a homo dozens of times. But everyone gets called a homo some point in there life.
