Melfina - July 21, 2003 02:28 AM (GMT)
The only magna I read was three AnC books and a comic book. That's it, I think.

duotrouble - July 21, 2003 03:59 AM (GMT)
Well as y'all know, I'm reading ANC now. I've also gotten into X/1999, Card Captor Sakura, Fushigi Yuugi, Sailor Moon and Gundam Wing.

I think it's really cool to see the differences between the manga and the anime. It sometimes amazes me like in SM. Excuse me, not cousins! And Serena & Darien or Usagi & Mamoru, not all that innocent.

OK! Done now.

Usagi and Mamoru were cousins? *didn't read the manga ^_^*

Besides the general taboo of cousin-marriages, new studies have proven that the percentage rate of offspring conceived by cousins in actuality isn't any more dangerous than a "normal" couple conceiving a baby late in life. (37-40+, I believe.)

Still, we have a handful of states that have banned cousin-marriages, a few that will allow them under "special conditions", and some that freely allow it.

I don't know what I think of the issue, myself...

The Kunoichi - July 21, 2003 12:22 PM (GMT)
 I like Naruto, fruitsbasket, Hellsing, Rose Hip Rose, I's, Berserk, Love Hina, Ai Yori Aoshi and many more:3 I have read a lot and love all of themXD

snortstah - July 21, 2003 06:36 PM (GMT)
i've read some i didn't like though........hmm like 3x3 eyes, and ah megami sama(ah my godess) and i think a few others.....the plots were alright, i just couldn't stand to look at them! i mean, how can you read/watch something if it's not visually pleasing?

duotrouble - July 22, 2003 02:16 AM (GMT)
I agree with you, snortstah. I can't stand reading or watching something that's not visually pleasing. The artwork is what drew me to anime/manga to begin with.

I read all kinds of manga. But right now I would have to say my favorites are;

GTO
Marmalade Boy
Initial D
Chobits

These four I always make time for and have yet to get board of them.

I didn't mean them. I was referring to Neptune & Uranus. My mind just went faster than my fingers.

Melfina - July 23, 2003 05:42 PM (GMT)
In the USA version of Sailormoon, Neptune and Uranus are cousins, in the Japanese version, they are well.... lesbians. They changed this so it'd be appropriate for the little kids who watch it. As for the kids back in Japan, I have no idea.

Mikage-san - July 24, 2003 01:45 AM (GMT)
Sometimes I wish the US could be as open as Japan and other countries... but that in itself should be a whole other topic. :|

I didn't watch SM for the US, only the subbed... unless in the manga, the anime didn't have them as cousins, just lesbians like Melfina said. ^_^

I totally agree, the U.S. definately needs to be as open as Japan.

In japan the only aired them as lesbians and when I heard it was going to be on T.V. in the us I new they would change it. That's why I usually watch subs so I can get the shows the way they where meant to be seen.

Does that mean If you watched the series in english dubbed with subtitles on, the story would be different? What I'm trying to get at is, if you read the subtitles on the english release they would be talking about Neptune and Uranus being lesbians or do they change the subs too like they do to the dubbing?

Hope you guys get what I'm trying to say.

I totally understand what you're saying. But I'm not sure. I would think that they would change it but I haven't checked using that method B4.

I will rewatch my SM dvd's later this week and PM you the results.

Well, I can tell you right now. YES! It's different. Depending on the scene, it's very different. That's what I really like about season 3 & 4 being released uncut. With season 1 & 2, it's the same but they're edited unless you just bought the newly released uncut subtitled DVD.

Turning the wheel now to get back on the road of the topic, the manga follows the subtitles more. I just wish that the US would lighten up and dub them all the uncut way like WK or FY.

OOPS! Guess I went off topic again!

Glad someone understood what I was trying to say! Thanks TD & Duo...

UrdNoDa - August 8, 2003 03:19 AM (GMT)
First for the topic... my favorite manga (so far) are Ah! My Goddess, Utena, Love Hina, Peach Girl, and Maison Ikkoku (not in order really). That'll probably change beacuse I'm constantly reading more. ^_^

snortstah - you didn't think Ah! My Goddess was visually appealing? I find that shocking! In my humble opinion A!MG is beautiful and one of the most detailed manga I've ever seen. I guess it just goes to show that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ^_^ Well... there are these newer versions of the first few mangas that are (I think) the original, earlier drawings that the author did, and those are, I must admit, not up to his standards and are almost ugly. I agree about things needing to be nice to look at. A friend had told me that Peach Girl was good, but when I first went to read it, I thought the art was pretty ugly... but then it grew on me. Now I don't find it ugly, just different. ^_^

final yugi - Whenever possible I watch both the dubbed and subbed version of an anime, and so I have noticed differences. Usually they're subtle though, and not so noticable like the SM cousins/lesbians thing. It'll be a slight change in a word or two here and there. For example (I'll probably get this a little wrong)... in the first episode of Love Hina, Naru falls over and Keitaro sees her panties... in the dubbed version he says something like "woah", just something generic like that, but in the subbed version he says something like "wow, pink!". So it's definitely toned down.

Perhaps the best example I've seen of changing anime's dialouge to tone it down is the (infamous) Nurse Washu episode of the Tenchi OVA series ***spoiler warning!!!!*** ***spoiler warning!!!*** In the dubbed version Washu's lines go like this: "Hello!... I've got magic fingers!... You want me to stop it?... Nah, you don't want me to stop it!... Let's shake the dew off this lily, shall we?". In the subbed, those same lines go like this: "Do you want me to do it with my hands?... Then with my mouth?... My cleavage?... O.K., I'll give you a full course... I can't stop now". There's quite a difference!

FiNaL_YUgi - August 10, 2003 07:02 AM (GMT)
Woah....They wouldn't allow that kind of language here in the States...Altough it would be nice if they kept it in its original form. I'd like to hear Washu's english voice say that....that woud be great!!!

Well thanks alot Urd!!!!
