Title: Kazaa
Description: Is it true...?

FiNaL_YUgi - July 7, 2003 05:19 AM (GMT)
Personally, I get most of my music and other things off Kazaa, It's free and easy to find things...am I right?

Earlier today, my older brother called me and told me to stop using Kazaa because they're tracking down the users and suing them.

I heard something about this on the news a few months back informing the viewers that in 3 months, companies plan to take down the P2P (peer to peer) websites...

If any of you know anything regarding this issue...please post and tell us what you know or what you've heard...

No more accessible anime music.....:::CRYS::::

I don't use a downloader unless I absolutely have to. I loved KaZaA when I had it a year and a half ago, but it ruined my computer completely. A lot of spyware crap came up... it wasn't pretty.

I wouldn't doubt they are trying to track each user, but I don't really see how they could. Though, I suppose if people can hack Spyware into your computer they can get personal files throughout it... :/

FiNaL_YUgi - July 8, 2003 03:52 AM (GMT)
It can mess up my comp? eeeekkkk!!! ....thanks Mikage

Melfina - July 8, 2003 07:20 AM (GMT)
Darn it! Stinking Add/Remove programs won't let me uninstall Kazaa!! Gah!
Is there another way I can remove it?

TauntingDestiny - July 8, 2003 07:33 AM (GMT)
They are trying to this already. But they are only
nailing those right now with 1000 or supreme being ratings.

Saying they have way to much pirated crap. I just download what I need back it up on 2 discs then delete it right away. Then your not really sharing files so your rating stays low and if it's not on your comp where's the proof ^_~

As for getting rid of all these programs it will cause the owners on the music and media much more than it's worth. It will cause all sorts of problems. People will spite the music industry, find a way around it and never buy a cd again. Companies will dump money in stopping pirating but waste money because people will not ever buy from those companies or artists again like many did to metallica.
And anyways why Sue someone for monitary damage when they aren't making a profit.

And besides it's not illegal to barrow a friends cd and make a copy of it. Kazaa and sites similar are just ours friends from around the world sharing our mutual interests. Weather that be movies, music, pictures and so on. So hows that illegal ^_~

HAHAHAHA, you got a point...sharing with our friends around the world!!!!! That's a good one!

So you can't get rid of the program Melfina? Are you sure Kazaa doesn't delete in the add/remove programs? Cause it worked for me before. I guess the only thing you could do then is delete it manually. Do a search of everything that has to do with kazaa on your comp and delete it yourself. Although I don't know if its bad for your comp or not....

I'll probably end up getting rid of Kazaa too, I'm gona miss it though....its just done so much for me....

Yes, I did. Thanks. My relative suggested deleting the files manually, so I did. I can't access Kazaa anymore so I should be fine now. But the Add/Remove programs don't work still. Here is the error message:

RUNDLL
Error in C:\WINNT\System32\cd_clint.dll
Missing entry:ServiceRunDll

I was not able to delete Kazaa permanently (sp) through Add/Remove. And I agree, I'm going to miss it, too. Like you said, it's done a lot for me as well.
Goodbye, Kazaa.

To ease your mind a little, don't worry about being sued. True the companies are actually going after people and sueing them. However, they're going after the people who are making copies and selling them. That's strictly money out of the music makers pockets.

Also, they're carefully watching people with lots of downloads. If you only downloaded now and again, don't worry. They don't care about you. They're going after the big fish. And if you did what TD did - just burn it immediately to CD and then get rid of it - again they won't go after you.

Legally, you were never supposed to keep anything downloaded on your computer for more than three days. Free downloads are supposed to be treated like samples and make you want to go out and buy the material. Not everyone does that. And they can't go after everyone, but making the public aware like now will scare the average person enough to stop doing it.

Hope that wasn't too confusing. My friends and I have been talking a lot about this recently.

OoOoOooO....I get what you said Duo! I hope you and TD are right about that. Now I need to get rid of the Kazaa I have right now and find a new one because the kazaa I have right now has a permanent rating of 1000 (k-lite master), I just happened to get it...I didn't earn the rating... nonetheless I could still get into alot of trouble eh?

I'm not really sure how to help you melfina....Kazaa is still on your add/remove list but when you try unistalling it, you get that message right? I got the same error msg on my old comp when I was trying to uninstall roller coaster tycoon (its a game), so I just left it alone....Sorry I couldn't be more of help to ya.

Well i'm off to watch my new dvd.....night all of you!

TauntingDestiny - July 10, 2003 05:39 AM (GMT)
 FY you have the Kazaa hack program. That's the cheat version to get priority on downloads. But I'm sure you knew that ^_~

I'd definately get rid of that version because most people block you from downloading from them with that program because they know you cheated.

Oh and enjoy watching the new dvd.

TD

duotrouble - July 10, 2003 05:43 AM (GMT)
Have a blast watching the dvd! And here's a perfect opportunity for you to start a post. Say something like "finished the DVD" or whatever and tell us how you felt. Then we can all remember how we felt the first time we saw -blank- happen.

Just trying to help you on those people skills!

Good topic Duo!!!! Ill do that hopefully by tom night if I finish the series!!!!!

A hack version? Woah....I really didn't know that TD. Although I was happy to see that I had a high rating....Thats why when you said they're targeting those with high ratings.....I got nervous....Well Its gone now....now I have to find a good, clean version....

TauntingDestiny - July 10, 2003 05:51 AM (GMT)
If you can't find the clean version download WinMx

It's a little slower and has fewer files to share but it's the next best thing.

TD

FiNaL_YUgi - July 10, 2003 05:57 AM (GMT)
Ok, Ill do that, but only as a last resort....I like Kazaa...Thanks TD

Yuhi - July 14, 2003 11:19 AM (GMT)
I had Melfina delete Kazaa because of this. I'm going to go ahead and download WinMX instead. And yes, thank you TD. I've heard of this program before from my classmate.

::goes off to download program:: :)

TauntingDestiny - July 15, 2003 07:47 AM (GMT)
No prob Yuhi and if you need any help or have any ?n's feel free to ask.

Also if you happen to be downloading any anime and the shared file name is killthetrends that's my ID on WinMX.

OMG... this is scary... my relative just gave me this link on AIM here.

http://www.techtv.com/news/culture/story/0...84600%2C00.html

It's going to be updated daily, I pray hard that Kazaa wont put me on the list or I'm toast.

TauntingDestiny - July 26, 2003 01:34 AM (GMT)
 I wouldn't worry. I bet 90% of those names if not all of them are fake. It would be way to costly to take the world to court and they wouldn't win even half of the cases if the person had a decent lawyer.

My opinion is that the list was made and publicized so people would react exactly how you just did. Most people would see this list and immediatly stop using Kazaa.
So music companies win because they get people to stop using this program and they don't have to pay the court cost of taking the world to trial.

So like I said no worries. If this list were real my friend should be at the top of that list.

TD

Melfina - July 26, 2003 04:07 AM (GMT)
you're right, Taunting Destiny, thanks. I shouldnt worry about it.

FiNaL_YUgi - July 27, 2003 12:34 AM (GMT)
Yeah I'm pretty sure that TD is right...They ARE probably fake.

Reasons:

1) Anybody at anytime can change their name on Kazaa...all you got to do is type it and thats it....it doesn't even register or anything

2) people have duplicate names....meaning more than one person could be using the same name. I for one am using the default name that came with my kazaa...k-liteuser or something. And I haev seen A LOT of people with that same name when they download off me.

So you should'nt really panic about the list....
