Mikage-san - November 15, 2003 05:04 AM (GMT)
I did see the results, however... o_o
So which of you guys here knows enough Japanese to watch it raw instead of subbed? I'm impressed! ^_^ I wanna get that good eventually.
FiNaL_YUgi - November 15, 2003 07:17 AM (GMT)
Im gona feel wierd but I watch it with english dubbed with subtitles...just to know what they're changing.
::sits in a corner by himself::
TauntingDestiny - November 15, 2003 09:45 AM (GMT)
Heah Mikage-san I can't vote either
O well. I can only watch this anime Subtitled. I
prefer to watch all anime this way but this one
I have no choice. I can't stand the english voice
actors for Touya and Aya.

i picked subbed and raw, because depending on the anime, and how complex the vocabulary is, i can understand a lot of it....like for instance i can watch a lt of fushigi yuugi eps without needing the subtitles because most of what they say are things that i know.....not a whole lot of complex vocabulary there, lol. but other series that speaks all weird like yoda and/or uses more complicated vocab i need subs for. i can understand japanese waaaay more than i can speak it ^_^;;
Tooya's_Prayer - November 15, 2003 05:32 PM (GMT)
I picked Japanese. I know about 80% of what they say and the rest I can just guess since I've watched it enough with subs. I don't like reading the subtitles b/c it takes away from the beauty of the anime. And I just can't watch it in english.. when I got the dvd it started playing in english and the second Aya opened her mouth from this sexy lil anime voice to this gravelly tomboyish english one I just *cringed*... and Tooya speaks all slow and weird. Nails on a chalkboard, this is my biggest pet peeve. I always like the version of the anime I saw first. I watch all of my anime in Japanese, except Spirited Away, Cowboy Bebop, and Inu-Yasha, because I saw them first in English and got used to the voices...
snortstah - November 15, 2003 07:41 PM (GMT)
it's interesting you say that you like the first version you see, because i used to be like that too......
like with princess mononoke, i saw that in theaters so i saw it in english first, but even then i wasn't a big fan of the voices....i like the jap version much better
and same with blue seed.....i barely ever watch that series anymore, but i first rented it from a video store, so i saw it in english first. of course i bought most of them in jap, but among my jap eps, i also have a couple in english, and i don't even watch those anymore! i just can't stand watching anime in english....gar....

Don't worry, FiNaL_YUgi, I like watching anime dubbed with the subtitles on too! After I've watched an anime a few times in English, I'll put the subtitles on to see what they've changed. Usually, it's not that much.
Sorry guys! I really can't stand subtitles. I watch anime for the beauty of the drawings. And subtitles just distract from the art.
Most professional dubbing is so much better than it was a few years ago. They've really improved.

yes....that is true....but ugh......i cannot stand the dubbing for AnC! it's so terrible! the voices are god aweful....ick
Tooya's_Prayer - November 16, 2003 10:14 PM (GMT)
Yeah, the dubbing for Ceres is horrible, but...
Billy Bob Thornton in Mononoke Hime? BILLY BOB THORNTON!?!?!?!?!?
snortstah - November 16, 2003 10:16 PM (GMT)
hahahaha i know!
oh yeah he was that big red nosed guy....actually that wasn't too bad
Tooya's_Prayer - November 16, 2003 10:52 PM (GMT)
But I just luuuuurved the guy who did him in Japanese.
But the award for grating the most on Tooya's nerves go to...
ANGEL SANCTUARY DUBBED!
Kira- Completely unsexy voice, strange gravelly non-cuteness.
Setsuna- Strange, older gay-sounding voice, the anime sexiness we've come to love from Kira, Tooya and Setsuana aka the hot bishie voice completely dissappears.
Sara- Perky anime sweetness turns into a twenty year old with the after-effects of laryngitis and trying too hard.
Arachne- Sounds too much like a nympho, not like the seductive guy-being-a-chick voice like it should be.
Kurai- Too much resembled a girl.
Katan- Way too melodramatic and stage-like, reminds me of my father.
Rosiel- Love Crispin!!! This is just how I pictured him talking in English, the only reason I will sit through any part of the anime dubbed.
In conclusion, ruining my favorite anime this much is unforgivable, and why I refuse to even think about seeing any more of the dubbed Ceres other than the two seconds I've already had the displeasure to behold.
Didn't I tell you shitty dubs were my biggest pet peeve?
snortstah - November 16, 2003 10:55 PM (GMT)
i've always wanted to see angel sanctuary!
the art is so gorgeous!!!
Tooya's_Prayer - November 16, 2003 11:12 PM (GMT)
yeah its a far cry from the manga but i still love with with all my heart
the romance in it reminds me a teensy bit of Ceres
