Title: Fortune telling

duotrouble - October 11, 2003 08:20 PM (GMT)
We all saw Aya get her fortune read in the beginning of ANC but how many of us believe in that?

I would really like to try it someday. Just for fun though. I think I'd have the same reaction as Aki - sure whatever! But I think as long as I keep it in the "all in good fun" catagory, it'll be alright. Geez! With my luck, I'd probably get a fortune like Aya's.

I'm not sure if you're asking about fortune telling specifically, like palm reading, or Tarot reading... or just a general "psychic" reading?

Perhaps they are all the same thing, but I don't think so.

I'm not sure what I think about palm reading, as I've never had it done. I have, however, had a Tarot card reading and general psychic readings before. It really depends on the person you get it from.

There are many fakes who just use "general" guidelines, such as going specifically by your astrological sign. They won't give you specific answers. I don't care for these, since I myself could pull up a list of characteristics of each sign and give my own readings.

Tarot cards are neat, if they are done correctly, but some people say since each card has more than one meaning it could be applied to everyone. Somehow, I don't find this true... it just, again, depends on the person giving you the reading. The "real" readers will give you specific examples.

My experience has been good, now that I've found "my psychic". She even looks like me, just much older (though shorter ^_^). She knows things about me that she couldn't have otherwise.

However, much like Aya... you should take whatever a psychic tells you with a grain of salt. It should just be for entertainment and nothing more. ^_^

Yeah, I enjoy Tarot card readings. I can do them myself. But I always remind myself that it's fun and try not to scare myself or anyone else I'm reading. Of course, I'm still at the point where I use the guidebook.

In college, my roommates and I read our palms using a book we found in the library. So don't believe any of that! It did not match me at all.

General psychic reading, which is what I was refering to, I'd like to try. That's what I assume Aya was doing since the lady had a crystal ball. I'm just afraid I'll find some fraud who uses vague readings. Once again, just for fun. I realize some people stake their lives on these readings. I believe I can control my own destiny. But -- a little guidance never hurt.

I'd say just try a few people until you feel you have one that's legit. I've had 4 fakes and 1 real. As you said, it's all in fun, though! ^_^

I myself don't believe in this kind of stuff. I find their
answers to my direct ?n's to be evasive and so generalized.
Or they throw out a saying like I see the person who is
important to you and something happened to her. In turn taunting
me to say who this person is and they just sort of go with the flow.

Maybe I just had a bad experience but that's why I
don't like them.

Some are horrible... they try and say things to scare you so you'll pay more money. For example, a palm reader told my sister she was going to die in a few years. Most people would freak out and say, "Can't anything be done?!"

Apparently a lot of people fall into a trap like that and end up buying spells and such.

heh
i've never been to a psycic, but i've always wanted to go to one! i probably wouldn't believe them if they didn't tell me something significant about myself without them asking all these questions and fishing for answers.

oh! not to change the subject, but you know those shows where the people can
"talk to the dead"? omg they are so rediculas. i watched one once and the guy threw out 50 questions and finally got a yes........then he'd be soo off on one and the family would just be so happy about getting their messages or whatever to their relatives they'd be completely oblivious to it all. sigh...so stupid...and fake...

"talk to the dead"?

Seance? Not sure if I spelled that correctly or not.

Some are real, some aren't. I'd say if you were in your OWN home, so you know no tricks could be played... and the walls started shaking or what not...

Hehehe.. xD

Sorta-kinda off topic... but related to spirits. My ex-boyfriend's brother once poked fun at a spirit at his friend's house...I think he asked it to come down like a seance, but he poked fun at it a bit.

The windows smashed, the house screamed and shook.... Needless to say he never stepped foot there again.

ooooooh coool

but i meant those tv shows........those ones called "beyond, with john whatshisface"

Mikage-san - October 17, 2003 01:41 AM (GMT)
Ohhh... Crossing Over, with John... John... er... Edward! I think? ^_^

I'd like to believe in it, but since it's on TV, I'd need to be read personally before I'd accept it not being a scam. ^_^;;

Edit: Wait... Beyond Belief with Jonathan Frakes? (the Star-Trek dude...) That's not always focuses around these things, but sometimes it is... ^_^

Yeah, I've seen that Crossing Over show. There are just so many people in the audience. How can he not get something from someone?

That's why I was saying I'd do it just for fun. I mean we talked about ghosts in another post. And y'all know I believe in them. But it's a personal thing. Not something for money.
