Title: it's time for some real discussions!

snortstah - August 20, 2003 05:04 PM (GMT)
okay let's have a serious debate, people.
the topic will be something like "what religion are you and why....do you believe in God....etc"
.....and no holding back! don't be afraid to offend anyone! lol but don't do it on purpose, obviously

me, well, i'm not religious. i'm athiest. my mom was baptized, and she's catholic, however she is also athiest. if i was baptized, i would have been catholic as well.
but i don't belive in God. i mean, i think he was just simply made up so that people would generally be nice to eachother, and not do criminal acts and stuff. of course i know jesus was a real person and everything, it's been proven scientifically for crying out loud, but i don't think there is anyone "watching over us" or whatever. that's some excuse for people to not worry over things too much. like if something bad happens "God had his reasons" or something. psh. how convenient, ne? i think all religions where there is a single god (i forgot what's that's called è_é) are stupid. when there are more gods, they don't so much "watch over you". it's more like if you do certain things then you will be lucky. that's kind of nice.....still, kind of ridiculous though.
i think religions that are based on principles rather than gods are much better. your not doing something to please your god, but to be good and do something nice.
i rather like budhism myself. lol
................i could make this like 2 pages long, but i'm too tired. blah.

Okay... as Snortstah already said, please don't offend anyone. If there's a fight in this topic -- if it's not a healthy discussion, it will be closed IMMEDIATELY.

That said...

I myself don't quite know what I believe in or don't. I believe there is an entity out there that resembles "God". I believe we are punished or rewarded in the afterlife, like with the Caste System. I believe there is a "Heaven" and a "Hell".

I would have to say I'm Christian, as it's the only "way" I grew up with. I stopped attending church around the age of eight or nine, however... and I don't follow "the rules" properly.

I still haven't pieced all my thoughts together. Ever since I started reading a bit on Mythology and all the different religions, I sort of let my mind wander from Christianity. Each and every religion seems to think their way is the only way to live by. If that's the case, we're all going to Hell.

I do and don't. =P I'm Catholic, and was baptized and all that, but I haven't went to church in who knows how long.

I don't really know how I feel about all that. I heard someone conversation that on earth, is sort of a hell and until we live a right life we'll just keep repeating it until we get into heaven and yada yada.

I used to go to a teen-thing with my friends that was religious. But I stopped, we used to play games, pray a bit, and sing a couple of songs. But I stopped going because the leader kept trying to force us to do this and believe that, and then the games got replaced and I got sick of it. =/ So stopped going.

I believe there's something, but if God were real, I wouldn't think we'd have to live perfect lives in order to do what He wants. I go around cursing and doing normal teen things all the time, causing trouble all the time and that kind of stuff. ^_~ If He were real I'd think we'd just have to live normally, just ya know, without killing or any biggie like that.

I dunno what else right now really. ^^;

I think you're right that God wouldn't expect us to be perfect.

If everyone who (excuse my bluntness) has had/will have pre-marital sex or *coughs*, I think that 98% of the world would be going to Hell already.

If I am not mistaken, do strict Catholics find birth-control a big "no-no"? It's just... the little things that we do in everyday life that are supposed to be so bad... the things that we "must not do" elsewise we won't get into Heaven... we all do them. At least once. Once is a sin, and one sin is all it takes, apparently.

There is a time to repent of course. I feel we all are punished to some level... but I think Hell is for the really "bad" people. The murderers... rapists... and other convicts.

I'm far from perfect. I don't think I've done anything to merit going to Hell yet, but I don't feel I'd quite belong in Heaven. I think I have plenty of time to "make amends", should I decide to?

What the heck can I make amends to if I'm not even sure about it all?

Well let's see...I'm Catholic but I don't go to church regularly. I use to when I was small but as I grew up, my family stopped going. Reason being that my parents learned from other religions that you don't need to go to church weekly to be with God....err something like that.

But on the major religious holidays my family attend the mass and for some odd reason I always feel nervous before I go to church but when I come out, I feel all friendly and happy. Probably its the evil that doesn't want me to go then its cleansed away in church. HAHAHAHA....funny

There are some beliefs in the Catholic religion I don't believe in (no offense to anyone...this is what I think..personally) like the purgatory for example...I don't think there exists one. I guess I've picked out a few that I would believe in and others that I won't. oh well...

Anyway that's my story... It's nice to hear that i'm not alone

I'm a firm believer that if you want to worship, you don't have to go to church to do it. Who said the only place you can pray is in a church? I myself don't believe in God, Heaven or Hell. I'm more of a believer in reincarnation. Guess that's why I like ANC so much!

Most of the time I'm very quiet about my beliefs. I have a very religious friend and she knows I'm not sold on the idea. However, we never talk about it because it'll just cause agruments. Another friend of mine told me she was open-minded and wanted to know everything kind of like this post. Well, she no longer speaks to me. I understand that everyone in the world has a different opinion about this. I mean look how many different religions there are in the world. If there really is a Heaven and Hell, then I guess there's gonna be one heck of a party in Hell because not everyone can be "right" enough to make it into Heaven.

I'm no angel but I try to live my life without hurting others. I don't go to church because when I did when I was a kid all they did was tell me I was a sinner. I remember telling my mom that I hadn't done anything wrong. I believe if you don't hurt anyone maliciously, you'll be fine when you die.

She won't talk to you anymore? O_o Your "friend", I mean? No offense to her, but apparently she wasn't as open-minded as she thought. Things like that urk me, people's close-mindedness.

duotrouble - September 2, 2003 03:06 AM (GMT)
No offense taken! And I guess I should have said an old friend of mine. Yeah, I think sometimes people think they're open-minded until they hear something they don't want to hear.

Me I have no stand out of confussion

My mom is a Gehova witness and my dad is catholic.
growing up I saw many views about religion and find each
one to be so different except for one thing.

every religion belives in a god or gods. I am not close
minded and have listened to many viewpionts just to help
me get closer to what I believe as the truth. I have many opinions
on pretty much every religion but don't want to end up writing a
book here instead of leaving a post so I'll end it at that.

But if any of you catch me on AIM and want my whole opinion
don't hesitate to ask.
