Title: Is Square-Enix playing favorites?

Bill Gates - October 21, 2004 01:06 AM (GMT)
Maybe it's just me, but don't you think Square-Enix is playing favorites with their Final Fantasy games? Not that it bothers me, I mean, FFVII is my favorite of them all, but it seems like they're going all out with the game with this whole 'Compilation of Final Fantasy VII' thing. Three games, and a movie. That's a lot of glory compared to the games in the series.

So, what do you say? They're playing favorites, no? How do you feel on it?

Sora - October 21, 2004 04:31 AM (GMT)
Really do you want to know? Not to be rude but you obviously know its not the most popular they made Anime for all of the FF'S but oyur right I love FF7 its my favorite!!!!

Yes their playing favorites, but they are doing it because they know FFVII is arguably the best game of the series, and they shall sell millions of anything with the FFVII logo on it. Personally, I would love to see the treatment they have done with FFVII also done with FFIX, but that's not likely. -_-

Yes, I agree. But I like FFVII so, oh well!

That's why you can't hate Square Enix for it. Better to have it for FFVII instead of no game at all. ^^ (Besides, FFVII has three bishis: Vincent, Sephy, and Cloud)

Psyva - October 22, 2004 01:12 AM (GMT)
Ahh... *drools* Sephy... Vincent... Cloud... Square-Enix is my best friend in the world! XD LOL j/k Personally I don't care if they play favorites considering FFVII is my favorite game of all time =P. You can't really blame them considering it makes sense. Aren't you going to work on a game that is going to give you the most profits?

Yeah, I'd like to see something more done with FFIX too. It'd be nice to see the characters in some upgraded graphics, and I'd also like to know more about what happened before the ending..

But anywho..S-E is making a lot of money off of all this FFVII Compilation stuff. First they take the 25 minutes to the Venice Film Festival, then there's more at TGS(2003 and 2004) and the Montreal Film Festival thingy that's coming up.

It pays to play favorites, I guess. ^_^

definitely playing favorites. No other game has so many "sequels" (if you can call them that) than FF7. They need to focus on all their other great games like FF9 for example.

::tries to decipher:: Umm, what're you talking about? x.x;

I can't recall seeing any anime based off of any of the FF's. Unless you're talking about doujinshi's..which are drawn by fans who, might I add, have extremely good drawing skills.

I don't think they're favouring it... It just seems well over with the fans and people. It's also the most well-known one of the series. So of course they're going to push it into our faces whenever they get the chance too :D

Triton_DeBloom - December 1, 2004 03:32 AM (GMT)
As much as I love FFVII (I despise the FFVIII, IX, X, X-2) I can probably tell you right off the bat that basing a movie as sequel to the game and making a game to sequel the movie is probably a bad idea. Plus they have the Turk game too don't they? Bloody hell they're going to kill it if they keep at it.

Kiefer Sutherland - December 2, 2004 06:12 AM (GMT)
I dont think so...firstly, the movie is a great opportunity to recreate the characters in current level graphics...that is possibly the only thing that has dated in the game...

Second...arguably on of the most popular and mysterious characters in the game is vincent...so by creating a game centred around him, they have a chance of fleshing out him...

Thirdly...I dont think enough time was given to the turks in FF7...they seemed merely there to battle you every so often, and to prove the kind of underhanded tactics the Shin-Ra used...so by making a game around them, it gives them a chance to play a major role...

However...You have to say that they really cant botch these 3 up...if they do there is going to be one hell of an outrage going on in gaming circles...but personally, if they play their cards right, you could see the making of something very special...

Time for my opinion.

To me, the recreation of Final Fantasy VII in a new format is a fresh start to bringing about a degree of upper-class physics to the realm of gaming. The atmosphere of FFVII itself, the game renown for its interesting storyline, proves that a game does not need graphics to be a best seller.

But, incorporating graphics into most games brings them to life. I believe that the creators are attempting to bring their characters into a more realistic sense, so that the people may relate easier, but in a different sense than the game. Advent Children will allow people all over the globe to experience something new and interesting. 'Tis a revolution in our day, members. We are seeing the turning point of the gaming industry set right before us, and all we can do is criticize.

Do yourself a favor: pick up a console controller, turn on your television, and get to playing. These games we love and enjoy may not be around forever. What with this revolution, it could be a catastrophe...
