Title: Music corrupts the mind
-BC- - September 30, 2003 04:00 PM (GMT)
In mah perspectives class, we discussed the effects music has on us. This one guy made the comment that "All music corrupts the mind."
When first heard must people agreed but upon further thought must drew the conclusion, this guy was an ass and was wrong.
To say all music corrupts the mind is wrong, IMO. If anything he should have said "affects" the mind. An example, you're mad, and you put some nice tempo music on. the effect, most of the time, is that ya mellow out. Music doens't corrupt us to thinking about doing something evil, ALL the time. Yes there are rare cases, in which it has, not directly, casued people to do some evil stuff, but most of the time, music just added to cause.
what is your thought on this comment, made by this guy....

Your further analysis was correct, IMO. Music CAN affect the mind, but it hardly, if ever, corrupts it.

Corrupts? Hardly. <_<
I cannot add more because you explained it perfectly well. Sure enough, music does affect us through to the pace, lyrics and singer's style. It's not really the mind but probably our emotions? *dunno*

Well, you people pretty much covered all bases here. So I will just have to agree. So, I agree :D

I dont think it currups the mind......it like the one person who killed a cuple of people(Forgot his name) but than he blamed it on AC\DC's song "Back in Black". He said it was satanic and the AC\DC stod for Anti Crist \ Devils Children and it caused it to kill people. I always thought that was a load of bull.....He probably had though thaought of killing people and used the song to blame.....

Like everyone else has said: your analysis is correct.
Music does not corrupt the mind, but merely affects it. It's a common misconception. Next time the guy blurts this out, argue the matter.

That all depends on what kind of corruption you're talking about.
If all you listen to is happy, positive music, then you're not allowed in my house, because your perkiness gets in the way of my "darkness."
Can music cause people to do bad things?
Heck yeah.
They say Charles Manson was inspired to send his followers on a killing spree by the Beatles' "Helter Skelter." And I do know that many of my decisions have been negatively influenced by things I've heard off a CD.
But just listening to music doesn't provide the spark of evil. It will augment it, but there's generally something else to people who do various nasty stuff supposedly because of music.

If you allow yourself to become corrupted by music, then sure..it'll corrupt it.
But I'd rather stay in control ^-^ So no corruption for me. Gives me thoughts, visions and all..but whether I act on that to corruption..Nah.

well music can't really be corruptive unless you're obcessed or something. If your mind is corrrupted by music, then you have problems.

whoa, time to revive an old thread
In a recent test 8 mice were put in a maze and they all finished in about 10 minutes. Then 4 mice were put in a cage and listened to classical music 24/7 for a month the other 4 listened to hard rock for a month, the mice that listened to classical music finished the maze again in under a minute, the mice that listend to hard rock ended at 30 min but the test was thrown out cause the hard rock mice killed eachother.
So, maybe it does mess with your mind a bit, who knows?
