Title: Yah, I make sigs too..
Xen si - November 14, 2005 06:07 PM (GMT)
This is some stuff I made with my legally free Gimp photo editor (pfft.. PS bootlegers..)

Actually, I've been using Photoshop at school so I'm thinking I'll see what I can do with it.. I'm only in CG 101 though, so I hardly understand a fraction of how PS works..

Wow, those look great! If these were made with a free photo editor, once you learn Photoshop, those things'll be Louvre-worthy!
Bill Gates - November 14, 2005 10:25 PM (GMT)
I didn't have the patience for dealing with GIMP any longer than I did xD
But anyways, those are pretty good! Cropping on the blue one could use some work, but I really like the abstract backgrounds ^^
Hugh Laurie - November 15, 2005 05:49 AM (GMT)
Backgrounds look amazing. Maybe a little work on the images and you're all set. Photoshop > all. xD Yeah, I d/ed it but come on, ART is suppose to be free and so is making art!:p
Xen si - November 21, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
Yahm sometimes I've thought about sacrificing my code of honor for an amazing program that even my rl friends use, but.. excuse me for sounding preachy, it's just not that worth it to me (and uh.. my dad would kill me if he knew.. I can't even burn my friends CDs.. not that I want to =p).
Anyways, these aren't really sigs, but I was experimenting with some graphics for a website or something and just used the image size I always use for my sigs.

BuMp
Here's my first attempt at making something intresting with Photoshop at school. This was basically just an expiriment with filters and renders and such.. I still don't realy know how to use it well, so give me some pointers.

Edit: here's another made witt you guys in mind. Problly the last one I'll have time to make before school goes out so I thought I'd tribute it to AT.

Edit: Nevermind that, here's some more. Last day of lab though and I'm out of ideas since no one commented :(.

Bill Gates - December 8, 2005 09:08 AM (GMT)
Already told you on MSN..but for the record:
LOVE THE AT ONE. :D Looks really cool.
The text on the red one could use a little work. Prolly some anti-aliasing set to Smooth. That might make it look better.
As for the blue fire emblem one, maybe spiffy up the background a bit more, and a bit more cropping on the picture and it'll look nice.
Keep up the good work ^_^
Kiefer Sutherland - December 9, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
Not too bad...I like the AT one...very nice...the second one I mean...
Im not so sure the font looks that bad...I mean it does show on the red one the lack of anti-aliasing, but on the other fire emblem one it seems fine...although I wouldnt really gripe about it...
Xen si - January 25, 2006 02:16 AM (GMT)

Back on photoshop, yay! Finshed a new sig. I expiremented a lot with brushes on this one.. need to figure out some new effects before my stuff starts to look the same.
Yeeeah, and it looks like I'm going to have to fix my old posts since I just decided I'd put all my sigs in their own folder.. meh..
Edit: fixed..
Now that I see it posted on a forum, I don't really like this one.. I think I know a few problems with it, but any advice?
Bill Gates - January 25, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
Hard to read the text, but other than that, it looks okay.
Xen si - January 25, 2006 02:33 AM (GMT)
The flare render I put in the corner right under the S was bugging me.. hows this one?
Kenshin - January 25, 2006 03:29 AM (GMT)
I love the fire emblem.
Succumb to temptation - Get photoshop ;P!
Xen si - January 27, 2006 02:17 AM (GMT)
No! You evil messenger of the devil!
Yah uh.. anyways, here's another experiment with brushes and things.
Xen si - February 2, 2006 10:42 PM (GMT)
It's not a double post, it's a bump!
Ok well, anyways.. Katie gave me this totorial thing on the smuge tool so I thought I'd try it out at school. Hardly remembered a thing from it once I got there, but here's my first experiment with it.

It kinda gave me a new style to work with and helped me figure out some stuff I was trying to imitate from other artists. The text sucks, but I'm working on it.
My next one came out better I think.

I used some blending options on the text and did some renders and filters on it to make it look good. I know it's kinda hard to see, as usual with me, but I like it that way. I use text as more of an effect than something to read, but I keep it readable. Came out ok, yah?
Oh and btw, jk on the messenger of the devil thing, though some members here would enjoy the title..
Edit: I've got this airy cloudy smuge thing I don't know what to do with. Kinda looks good, so I thought I'd post it up.

Edit: Finished another

aj - February 7, 2006 08:17 AM (GMT)
too pixelated, soften it or blur it and it could also use more images or colors to blend with to make it more interesting.(it's too straight forward for an abstract work.) but other than that I have to give it to you as well for being another salmon and not going with the traditional bg making stuffs.
you've got one thing that no one can take from you... talent. :)
x.s. you can combine all images, create some masking and using the gradient tool, you can play with the blending of the image for you to make a unique abstract picture. :)
Xen si - February 15, 2006 02:31 AM (GMT)
I'm posting this one up because I've been told it's my best so far..

I didn't think it looked too finished, so I adjusted some brightness/contrast and did some other things. Once again taking the roll of Mr. Legality, I also put a note to the model's designer, just to be safe. Might have skewed it from being my "best" but eh..

Hehe, I'm the one that told you that. ^_^
On the second one, it's pretty much impossible to read the text. Might wanna add a stroke on it, or something...I like the addition of the red though. Nice touch.
Kiefer Sutherland - February 15, 2006 10:25 AM (GMT)
Ok, I definately agree with KT...I'd make the windy text a bit darker, and I would definately put a stroke around the other text...doesnt have to be a big one, but just enough to read the damn thing...other than that it looks really good...
Xen si - February 17, 2006 03:13 AM (GMT)
I think you guys are blind, but eh.. I tinkered with it.

I wanted to expiriment more with the smuge brush I used in that one, so I did this and just finished it today.

And than an emo sig :D

This one was inspired by a song from Thrice I was listening to just before.
Kiefer Sutherland - February 17, 2006 12:33 PM (GMT)
Man, that first one looks great now...works perfectly...the second one is good too...the last one isnt too bad either...however, its just basically text...and I dont like the second promise that is totally blurred that seems to be there just to fill space...
Bill Gates - February 17, 2006 09:40 PM (GMT)
1. Good
2. Great
3. Emo!
^_^ 'course, you already knew that, but I thought I'd tell you again.
Xen si - December 5, 2006 07:47 PM (GMT)
Well, Fall semester is ending, so I'd better post these up now before I'm away again.
I've done a couple sigs finally getting the hang of grunge backrounds, but most of what I've been doing is Wallpapers, trying to be creative with renders and colors and such. I've used most of my wallpapers on Myspace at some point.

Twighlight Princess sig

A work in progress. I used this
image, but if anyone has a better render of Raiden from Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots, I'll be glad to take it.

This one's not a sig or a wallpaper, but it's basically the starting ground for most of my recent Gimp projects.
"Reverie" WallpaperMy first and personal favorite, which led to a lot of further experimentation.
"Forever" Wallpaper"Sound" WallpaperBasic, put together in about 5 minutes, but it was inspired by something.
"Dream" WallpaperMost recent. I downloaded a boatload of new brushes and had fun with em.
I know what most of you are thinking.. First, the nightmare sig looks like crap. I know, but at the time I liked how it seemed to blend into the grunge. Plus I didn't feel like doing a good cutout job on Nightmare and setting him on that layer mode covered up the blemished spots.
Second (and I
always get this one from.. *cough*
Kt), the text on a lot of these is so hard to read. Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again that I tend to use text as more of an effect than something to read. If you really want to know what it says, I want you to make an effort to read it and then think about what it says.
Katrak - December 6, 2006 11:14 PM (GMT)
Maybe it's just me, but a lot of the wallpaper stuff looks pixelated to me. I dunno if that's 'cause of GIMP, or from the saving process...but they look really good, despite it.
Twilight Princess sig, I can't tell what's going on in that one, period. o__O Actually, it's hard to see the renders in any of the three sigs. It's like the background is more prominent than the renders themselves.

All in all, good work though ^^
JJ48 - December 7, 2006 04:12 AM (GMT)
Check your computer, Kat-san. I'm not noticing any pixelationizing, and the sigs look fine. Especially the TP one! GO TP! ^_^
The Razgriz Ace - December 7, 2006 06:05 AM (GMT)
Nah, no pixelations at all...
However I do agree with the renders though...I didnt even realise there was a render in the first sig til I looked at it again, the second one is only slightly more visible...the third one is good however...
On the walls...I reckon sound is the best looking one, but thats just my opinion of walls I think though...anything that has a dark bg with something really sort of chaotic or busy in the fg is my kinda thing...the others are ok I suppose...except the forever one...I dont like that big lens flare on the left...its just annoying to look at...

Most likely you're browser is resizing them. They're each 1024x768. Hover your mouse over it until you see an expand button, or change your settings so that it doesn't resize large pictures.
Anywho, thanks all. One more day of school after today, but I don't think I'll be getting online tomorrow. I'll probably have a ton more stuff to post here when I get back though.
Katrak - December 9, 2006 12:26 AM (GMT)
Maybe it's because I was half asleep, but I still see pixely stuff in the Sound wallpaper. Unless that's how it's supposed to look. *shrug*
The Razgriz Ace - December 9, 2006 12:43 PM (GMT)
Its supposed to look like that I believe...
