Title: what is...
Description: ... if there is such a thing...

Hugh Laurie - November 13, 2005 06:54 AM (GMT)
as perfect happiness to you?

Can it be achieved?

We need a new topic yo. B) My answer... later. :D

Toushiro Hitsugaya - November 13, 2005 07:01 AM (GMT)
I guess it can be achieved.... but never maintained....

to me happiness is when im with my frinds and family....

Danimal - November 13, 2005 09:39 AM (GMT)
It's theoretically possible, but I'll never get there.
Heck, I'd settle for perfect neutrality.

I think the only time that I seriously threatened somebody with violence was when they told me that happiness was a choice.

Batman - November 13, 2005 11:53 AM (GMT)
Perfect Happiness is attainible, but usually at a cost.... for me its always time, (that old geezer just likes to take it all away  ), never have a enough time to hang out with friends, or watch enough anime. if only i had more <_<
then i could be forever happy :D

Is there any way in which you could be even happier during those times? If not, so be it. But if so, then the happiness isn't perfect.

You should have followed through on that threat.... Happiness, a choice? thats the lamest thing i ever heard.....

Not necessarily. Not all the time, but sometimes, I've experienced that the only thing preventing me from being happy was that I felt that I SHOULD be sad/angry/whatever. Once I decided that I wasn't going to be sad/angry/whatever, and that I would instead be happy, I was perfectly happy.

Like I said, this isn't every case, but there IS a certain degree to which happiness is a conscious decision.

Toushiro Hitsugaya - November 13, 2005 11:13 PM (GMT)
true.... but some people would consider that bottling up emotions.... and that its not mentally healthy for a person to do...

Jack Thompson - November 13, 2005 11:15 PM (GMT)
You're not understanding. It's not that you supress your negative feelings, it's that in deciding to be happy, you no longer HAVE the negative feelings. This is why it won't work in every case.

Toushiro Hitsugaya - November 13, 2005 11:30 PM (GMT)
I've never heard of anyone that can just give up a bad feeling and be happy.... except for people that are Bi-polar... even if you decide to be happy you will still have that bad feeling inside you.... but i guess it depends on the situation....

like if someone murdered your family, your not going to be able to get over that..... but if a vending machine takes your dollar, you can pretty much say screw it and forget about it.... but though are a real stretch from each other.... so I guess your right that you can do that in some cases...

Danimal - November 14, 2005 12:53 AM (GMT)
Some people like to say happiness is a choice so that they can sound wise and on some higher level. Normally I wouldn't care, but telling me that happiness is a choice is telling me that I chose the most painful aspects of my life, which I find grossly offensive and obnoxious. There aren't many, but it's one of a few things I'd beat somebody up over.

Happiness is not the absence of problem but the ability to deal with them. So therefore it can't be achieved.

You can be really happy but after awhile you might not be "that" happy.

Looks like it's turning out to be a debate. *shrugs*

Pfft. Grow up.

All I'm saying is that SOME, not all, of the time, you fell the way you choose to feel. If you disagree with that statement, fine. But it's not something to pout about.

True.... its probably not going to be long before this is moved there....

Shawn Michaels - November 14, 2005 01:47 AM (GMT)
We were actually thinking of moving this there, but we don't believe Elza had the intention of turning this into a debate. And we wouldn't want to tell you to stop debating because this isn't spamming. =p So this is okay. We just are "engaging" into the conversation. ^_^

What is as perfect happiness to you? I don't quite understand the question. ^_^ While you guys mumble jumble about if it can be achieved, I'll just be cheesy. With a little logic. o_O With happiness comes sadness, all the time. It doesn't mean that you can't be happy without sadness. Of course not! There's always that chance of sadness in it though.

Let's take a loved one. There's always those good times, and great stuff, and as the happiness grows bigger and bigger, it gets closer to the death day. That's when things will get depressing. I would call that perfect happiness though. @_@ You can't get any better than feeling love for some one else, and being loved back. If there's something better, than someone should tell me because I haven't felt anything better.

And don't say sex. <_<

Moved to Debate O.o [Ben's color! We ran out of colors =/]

What do you mean there's no more colors? There's tons of them! Try hexcodes.

Neo: No one...and I mean NO ONE...uses my colour...

Jack Thompson - November 14, 2005 02:09 AM (GMT)
Oh, that's right. There was actually a question in this topic.

Anyway, I don't think perfect happiness is attainable in this world. However, after death, I believe it'll either be perfect happiness or perfect despair depending on who you are.

Hugh Laurie - November 14, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
Ummm yeaaaah, I didn't think we'd have heated debates about this but yeah, well I guess I will never be able to keep CC alive and kickin'.

Moving on...
Yes while happiness is a choice sounds lame, I agree that it's true.... in some cases. Definitely not all. I mean, it's just illogical to choose suffering (extreme suffering, even) from being happy. Like wanting your loved one dead, or a significant other, etc.

The cases I mentioned the involved happiness being a choice would be when let's say a person who dreams of becoming a painter becomes a doctor instead because it's more lucrative. Crushing your dreams. Now that burns. Yes you can be happy with money you'll earn and the practicality of it but you'll never have achieved true happiness then.

On the case of if it can be achieved, I'll go with what aj said although I disagree that true happiness cannot be achieved. You can be happy about certain things, like having your family as this is something personal and true according to you but could also not be true for others. Basically, I think true happiness isn't something you can truly define because it's based on the preference of a person. It can be achieved!

Agree?

Batman - November 14, 2005 10:56 AM (GMT)
I can agree to that completely,

Its how we as individuals measure our own happiness, and what makes us feel really great,
some people can choose to be happy, others require alot of happy pills.

Disagree. What I mean was "perfect happiness" cannot be achieved. You're talking about "true happiness" which is completely a different topic. :)

Hugh Laurie - November 20, 2005 01:37 PM (GMT)
Perfect and True are the same. It being true is what makes it perfect. Hmph.

No no no. You missed the point your highness.

Perfect = flawless.

True happiness for me is kinda like the feeling that you have when you have this dream that you have achieved or when you feel really happy eventhough the world is sh*tty. Or something like that. :)

It being true doesn't make it perfect. Perfect is but a word. ^^

Blah, it's just my opinion though. ^^

Hugh Laurie - November 21, 2005 06:01 AM (GMT)
Well I'm afraid our interpretations differ. I used those meanings interchangeably in Philo. So I guess we'll never agree about that!:p

Venom - November 22, 2005 02:38 AM (GMT)
Mm... In my honest opinion...

Perfect happiness CAN be achieved... It just all depends on what your view of perfect happiness is.

To me, perfect happiness would clearly be something in my own mind... Not something I wish to share with the forum, but in my mind, it would be pure bliss, and perfect happiness.

Although, to someone else, perfect happiness COULD BE finding someone they love, or finding someone and mending together what was broken.
It can be achieved, I believe, but it isn't just handed to you.
Although, at the same time... It can NOT be achieved as well...
You may never find perfect happiness, but that doesn't mean it was POSSIBLE to get it.
It was brought up, however that perfect is nearly impossible... To find near perfect happiness is what I am suggesting.
If this is in anyway confusing, I apologize. It seems logical in my own mind.
