Title: Traning thread
Description: For Kelvin Rankine

(((OOC: Mmmkay Dan, since you're a n00b to text-based, I'll be showing you the ropes here. You learn by doing, so here we go. First thing, all posts in RP forums must be made in character. If you want to say something out of character, you do an OOC (out of character, ooc...makes sense, don't it?). All terrain is imagenary, so you get to make it up. Or rather, I get to make it up in this instance. I'll describe an area and my entrence...what I'd like you to respond with is an entrance of your own, for starters. Oh, and remember to keep your sig out of your post!)))

The young woman stood in the clearing of the wood, her eyes cloudy. He should be here by now, she thought, her brow furrowing. As if sensing Sahari's thoughts, her falcon cried out from it's perch on a tree the hight of a dozen men located behind her. She looked over her shoulder and smiled slightly at her bird's reassurance. Shuffling her feet in the grass under the overcast afternoon sky, she continued to scan the edge of the forest restlessly.

A length of time passed without change until the crunch of leaf litter under heavy boots became audible. A man approached the clearing, dressed in a necked shirt with a dark, worn body armor casing covering his upper body. He stopped to hack away one last branch with his machete before stepping out of the woods. The sky was beginning to hint of red and the area in which the two were now standing was well outlined by the slowly darkening woods.
"Your bird looks hungry," Rankine said, studying the animal.

(((OOC: Excellent (seriously...you're going to be phenominal at this). Now, we move on to character use. Obviously, you're free to do what you will with your character. You can't make them invincible, however. That's god-modding and it's frustrating and unfair for the other RPers. But, as you probably know what that is and how to avoid it, I'll get into the next bit. Although you have total control over your character, how much control can you have over another person's? Of course not as much as that of your own (otherwise it wouldn't be just their character), but you can do little things. It's perfectly fine to make another person's character do something simple like walk towards you or say something, as long as it's nothing too big or too out of character (like, for example, if their person were in a wheelchair, the whole walking towards you thing would be a bad plan). Likewise, it's usually frowned upon to make the other person attack you. However, if they leave their attack open-ended, they are putting you in charge of the result.)))

Rankine turned his gaze towards the brown-clad woman before him. "If he's hungry, he'll hunt," she retorted matter-of-factly, cupping her hand behind her back and allowing in it a white light to pool. The mysterious substance flared into a milky-colored ball of fire which, smirking, she lobbed at his chest.

The fireball sailed across the clearing, causing shadows to dance through the woods and illuminating the ground beneath it as it travelled. Rankine watched it and then stepped to the side to avoid the attack. Fearing he may have misjudged the speed, he twisted his upper body away from it sharply as it just missed his torso. It hit the tree behind him with a loud crack. The trunk glowed with embers and pieces of flaming bark littered the ground. Rankine dusted some stray sparks off of his shoulder-piece.
"Smokey would be very disappointed in you." He pointed his finger toward Sahari, mimicking the bear. "I must admit, this is the first time a woman has tried to kill me before our date."

(((OOC:Very good. Assuming I haven't forgotten anything, those are the very basics. Lastly, before I let you go, I'd like to see how you fare in combat)))

"Oh, I'm not the first homicidal female you've tangled with?" she stated in mock dismay as she took large strides towards her companion, "Well then, I suppose I'll just have to be your last..."
With that, she launched herself the final few yards full-speed, her left drawing her longer blade from it's sheath across her back. She made a powerful diagonal slice from left to right downwards, aiming for the man's shoulder.
"HYaaaa!"

Danimal - November 10, 2005 03:48 AM (GMT)
Rankine snapped to alertness. He drew his machete with his right arm and parried her sword inches away from his body. Metal screeched and scraped and Rankine fell to one knee as Sahari brought down the force of her weapon against him. Both fighters strained to maintain the equilibrium, their arms shaking slightly.
"A woman after my own heart. Perhaps a little more literally than I'm used to..." Rankine's left hand shot forward, carrying with it the knife that had been kept to his side, obscured from Sahari's view. The knife made a slash through the outer layer of her garment before she caught his wrist and prevented him from plunging it into her side. He used the moment to push himself back onto his feet, now smiling.
"It's been a while." Rankine said. He pushed off of Sahari's sword and ripped his other arm away from her grasp. A small distance now separated the two, and they stared at each other with their weapons casually drawn.

Sahari shrugged off her now torn outer jacket, revealing a close-fitting sleeveless shirt underneath.
"Well, thanks, that'll be a hell of a dry-cleaning bill," she quipped, drawing her second blade from her waist. "But believe me, you'll be paying for it."
A light wind made the trees around them give up a hushing sound as it tousled the young woman's hair. Gripping her weapons, she took a breath and once again lunged at her opponent, first slashing horizontally at his chest and then crouching as she spun to bring her wakizashi flashing towards his shins.
