I saw it twice within the last fortnight and I thought it was great. The fight scences were fantastic and I really liked the order 66 montage. However I did feel a large twinge of sympathy for Natalie Portman for all the weak dialogue that she was forced to recite.

Overall it easily made up for the weakness in the other two..

Batman - June 10, 2005 09:16 AM (GMT)
though the movie was kool they really made General Ggrevious's character weaker, in the clone wars series he was much cooler and stronger, the 1st time he appears he takes on 5 jedi and almost wins,

i must say Yoda fightin the Emperor was the best part of the movie for me, along with Anakin and Obi Wan's battle, very nicely done.

but on that note, Anakin converted way too easily, and when Palpatine turned to his "true form" kinda cracked me up, he looked like a crazy old man.

overall it was a nice conclusion to the saga, and afterwards u can go watch the 4th, 5th and 6th eps and have no troubles now that the plot is complete.

Kagemusha - August 20, 2005 08:53 PM (GMT)
Only an hour in so far, too afraid to watch it again to finish it. Still too political, more of the same. So far only the special effects have changed, and they're not special anymore because the only things real per scene is the actors nowadays. Return of the Jedi won't be beaten, and that's only coz Luke goes apecrap on the guy :-p

Bill Gates - August 23, 2005 10:21 AM (GMT)
I read the script (xD) but I've yet to see the movie. I'll prolly buy it when it comes out.

Shawn Michaels - August 23, 2005 03:34 PM (GMT)
Where did you and the script? o______O

rofl, I'm guessing you meant to say "get" not "and" xD

I forgot the site name(it was a random google search)..but I still have the txt file on my computer.

Danimal - November 7, 2005 01:43 AM (GMT)
The script was leaked online long before the movie came out. I remember my friend Brian read it well ahead of time.

The movie was decent as far as movies go in general, not considering that it as part of the Star Wars series. In relation to the original three Star Wars movies it was lacking, but we all knew that it would be before we even saw the movie, didn't we?

Hayden Christensen is a terrible actor. Natlie Portman is objectively alright, but I'll never forgive her for the crime against humanity that was Garden State. Nothing else really stands out as terrible about the movie except for the ridiculous "Nooooo" Darth Vader scene, which singlehandedly made a mockery of one of the best villains of all time.

General Grievous was a weak character. The whole time he was on screen, all I could see was some artist drawing him on a clipboard and desperately saying, "See, see, isn't this a cool character?" They were trying too hard with him and it came off as a little sorry. The newest movies all lacked the flow and good characters of the first three. I felt like they were all designed to sell video games.

Jack Thompson - November 7, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
I think the storyline was pretty good, but bad acting and weak lines ruined it. (Anakin's "If you're not with me, then you're my enemy." line comes to mind.)

Aoshi Shinomori - November 7, 2005 05:12 AM (GMT)
I hate the damn droids. >.> Annoying!!!

Jack Thompson - November 7, 2005 05:15 AM (GMT)
Plus, did you notice how most of the ships looked like more advanced versions of the ones in the original trilogy, despite this taking place, like, twenty years prior? I mean, you had those stupid looking Star Destroyer wannabes, the six-winged X-wings, the ships with the TIE Fighter cockpit window, and the pre-lamda-class shuttle (the ship the Emperor transports Anakin in at the end of the movie).

Not only that, but how is it that it took them twenty years to build the first Death Star, but they almost completed the second Death Star, which was MUCH bigger, in only a matter of months?

First off, they had to tie in the 6 movies...how stupid would it have been if the tie fighters somehow came out of nowhere? The reign of the empire started at the end of the movie, so really it wasnt 20 years before...that reign had been going on for 20 years...

Secondly, if you want to go knitpicking about the lack of difference between the first 3 movies and the second 3, then look at number 2...you cant tell me those clone troopers dont look like stormtroopers...etc...Lucas had to keep a certain theme throughout the series...and he did that by keeping everything similar...

Finally, it may have taken them 20 years to build the death star 1...but if you then know how to build something, it doesnt take you that long to build another one...probably if they survived long enough, the empire could have massed produced them...XD

Jack Thompson - November 7, 2005 04:28 PM (GMT)
I'm not saying there shouldn't be similarities. Rather, I'm upset because, first of all, the ships in episode III look MORE advanced than the ones that come along twenty years later. Secondly, if you read the books or play the games, they already HAD predescessors to the later ships, which were basically Victory-class Star Destroyers (from which came the Imperial-class SD's), and the Z-95 Headhunter (pre-runner of the X-Wing). Both of these were supposedly developed during the Clone Wars (which actually was supposed to be rather different than Lucas described it in eps 1-3, but oh well), and I think myself, and many other hardcore Star Wars fans were looking forward to seeing them in action.

On an almost unrelated note, read this, and this. (possible spoilers, maybe, possibly, almost)

Bruce Lee - November 8, 2005 12:46 AM (GMT)
What's your point? They had predescessors, so what? That's what peter was talking about...they had to have the ships tie in with the next 3. And i think it's possible that in the 20 years, the empire remodelled the ships to be better. But by complaining that the ships are more advanced in ep 3 is basically mocking the original 3. It's not about how much better the ships look, cause i'm sure is George wanted, he could remake the ships from 4-6 to be much better. You could string this complaint of ships into lightsaber battles and explosions and anything.

My point is that we know that episode 3 is more flashy than 4-6, but any fan shouldn't care, and anyone else should appreciate that the other films were made in the 70s/80s, before technology allowed the special effects of today.

And what do you mean the clone wars was different? I'm assuming you've seen the cartoon series "The Clone Wars" right? So explain the differences besides ships.

Cartoons:

The first one makes fun of a dramatic scene. I think the acting here was pure art. Hayden did an awesome job portraying his anger and regret. How else are you supposed to do a death scene like that?

The second one is laughably stupid. They don't seem to have much to pick on at all, just making jokes on the movie (like darth vadar and the ticket, wtf?) and they obviously haven't seen the clone wars as they seem to be confused as to why grievous is coughing...poor souls.

Jack Thompson - November 8, 2005 12:52 AM (GMT)
I have NOT seen the cartoon series. I am referring to the various references to the Clone Wars in the original trilogy, AND in the various novels. Also, I couldn't really care less how brand, spanking, new the ships look, I WANTED Z-95'S AND VICTORY CLASS STAR DESTROYERS! BOTH of those were Clone War-era ships that were supposedly around, and quite popular, BEFORE the Empire was put into place, and yet they AREN'T THERE!

To quote Darth Vader:
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Bruce Lee - November 8, 2005 12:54 AM (GMT)
I haven't read the books, but the cartoon series explains heaps about the cartoon series, and fills lots of plot holes. I watched it before episode 3 so i could understand everything.

Jack Thompson - November 8, 2005 01:03 AM (GMT)
Bah, I'm just not a fan of the whole episode 1-3 storyline. Even of the books I've read, most of them concerned the New Republic, and took place AFTER the original trilogy. In the books, I believe, the Clone Wars were supposed to have occured when there was a huge surge in cloning, and many people started experimenting with ways to grow clones faster (rather than letting them grow up naturally). The clones reached maturity faster, but the accelerated growth caused them to go crazy, and turn on the non-clones and "natural" clones. So basically, the Clone Wars were supposed to have taken place between the non-clones and the crazy clones.

Also I remember reading about a fleet of Dreadnaught-class ships that got lost around this time. It would've been cool to see Dreadnaughts, too.

Bruce Lee - November 8, 2005 01:16 AM (GMT)
lol non-clones and and crazy clones. Probably things best left in the books, like anything after ep 6. I still reckon Empire Strikes Back is the best of the 6.

Danimal - November 8, 2005 01:20 AM (GMT)
Z-95's? Dreadnaughts?
Hell, I would have settled for some good acting. That's what made the first three movies. Most people complain about it in episodes 1-3 for a reason: it sucks. I imagine it doesn't matter as much to the hardcore fans, but to someone like me who just wants a good movie, the actors wreck it.

Meh...the acting wasn't that great in episodes 4-6 either hon...I think what made them so awesome is the plot and the novelty of it (like when the Matrix first came out...no one had seen anything like it). They got lazy with the first/last three is what it is...going for cheap hollywood special effects and some cheese here and there (watchu talkin bout cheese, ally?...yoda with a lightsaber and the vader "nooooo!" is what I'm talkin bout...). So yeah...although the acting sucked, that ain't what killed Star Wars...

Jack Thompson - November 8, 2005 01:37 AM (GMT)
Hey, I'm by NO means saying the terrible acting is excusable. I'm just saying that the acting wasn't the ONLY thing that killed the movies.

But yeah, as upsetting as the lack of the Z-95's are, it's even more sad that my friends and I made videos for Spanish class in high school that had better acting than episode III.

Bruce Lee - November 8, 2005 01:43 AM (GMT)
I reckon the plot is what saved it for me. It was great! And the acting was awesome in the 4-6 by the standards that were back then, so shaddup :P

I'm not even too much of a star wars fan, but i still liked the whole series for the plot and depth of the movies.

Canitoch - November 8, 2005 01:56 AM (GMT)
This movie was so SAD!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously I was about to cry...

xD Anyhoo the NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO was hilarious!

I cann't say much else since I'LL SPOIL THE MOVIE TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT HAPPENS! @_____@

Jack Thompson - November 8, 2005 02:00 AM (GMT)
No, no, no. I LIKED eps 4-6. ALL my rants have been about eps 1-3. The bad acting was ENTIRELY in thos episodes.

In short:
4-6 = Greatest movies ever made. Period.
1-3 = ...

...well, let's just say that if they didn't have the Star Wars name, they'd probably end up on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Oh, and I DID like the plot, but unfortunately it was ruined by bad writing and worse acting.

Bruce Lee - November 8, 2005 02:04 AM (GMT)
*spoiler*

I still liked anakin's screams when he was being burned at the end of ep 3, good acting there.

Danimal - November 8, 2005 02:16 AM (GMT)
They should have cast me. My screams during the movie weren't even acting.
"Turn it off! It's a sin!" -A Clockwork Orange

Jack Thompson - November 8, 2005 02:30 AM (GMT)
SPOILER:

I didn't like the scene where Mace Windu died. I mean, it was like:

Anakin: Oh, no! What have I done? I've killed a Jedi Master! <sob>

Palpatine: Yeah, terrible. So, how about you join me?

Anakin: ...ok!

Palpatine: Cool! Now, how about we celebrate with a couple nice, refreshing Miller Lites?

Anakin: Totally!

-----------------------------

Ok, so I don't remember the scene EXACTLY, but I DO remember that Hayden's acting was abysmal in it.

Canitoch - November 8, 2005 02:45 AM (GMT)
****************************************************************************************SPOILER TO THE KT!!!!! DONT READ IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT! XD***************

****************I'm serious KT, and who else dares read this..though it's not much of a spoiler, KT will kill me..so Kt if you read this, this is your fault!*********************************

When Padme died, I was so sad, sorry but she was really hot, and Anakin chose the darkside over a hot chick as your wife. But the scene was really beautiful, Padme looked really nice in that dress..and all those flowers in her hair. The scene was just one of the most prettiest scenes I've seen, and the saddest too.

--------------------------------------------------------

End SPoiler!

Canitoch - November 8, 2005 02:50 AM (GMT)
This movie made me depressed for the longest time..I was sad for a WEEK after seeing this movie..its lame..and I need a life @_@

Batman - November 8, 2005 03:32 AM (GMT)
I reckon the plot was kool, although the acting was really bad, anakin being a whiny bitch rite to the end really annoyed me, he wasn't a kool jedi, he plain sucked. and count dooku was killed WAY to EASILY, and soon, did i mention easily?

can't get enough of those overused special effects. <_<
but giving the super battle droids an ogre like personality really killed their kool effeciency as awsome robots :(

Jack Thompson - November 8, 2005 03:34 AM (GMT)
Also, why didn't they kill of Jar-jar Binks? Couldn't he have, you know, wandered into the Jedi temple while Anakin was on a rampage, or something?

Sean Connery - November 8, 2005 03:53 AM (GMT)
Heh....tru dat, JJ

But no...they make him a senator or assistant senator...or whatever the heck he was.

And actually, killing him off would've served as a double purpose due to that whole controversy over it being an offensive character. Kill Jar-jar, and everyone's happy.

Jack Thompson - November 8, 2005 03:55 AM (GMT)
Everyone except the little kiddies, that is. But then again, Anakin was killing off "younglings", so they'd be in tears anyway.

Danimal - November 8, 2005 04:23 AM (GMT)
They should cut the scene with Natalie Portman dying and put it in the movie Garden State instead. I wanted to strangle her character in that movie myself. It also made it impossible to sympathize with Padme whatsoever. Yeah, I'm spiteful. (menacingly) Do something about it!

Bruce Lee - November 8, 2005 06:17 AM (GMT)
lol it's funny how BM tried so hard to spoiler what you just said in his previous post, and you just say it without a spoiler warning at all.

*spoiler*

But everyone knew that padme had to die, i mean it was part of the story that she died giving birth, and all that stuff. It's a shame ep 3 didn't have more surprises, i'm glad it didn't stick to the story exactly.

Danimal - November 8, 2005 05:26 PM (GMT)
Has anybody not seen the star wars movies that plans to see them in his or her lifetime?

At what point do things become shared cultural knowledge?
I'd hope that Bambi's mother dying is not a spolier.
