Rose walked down the cold street in the midst of the city. It was a cold night, the only light that of the full moon above her. A slight rain was falling, forming droplets on her clothes and hair. The streets were deserted, all the inhabitants down to sleep, just as Rose should be.

I can't sleep like this, she thought, leaning against the wall. There's just something coming, and I can't tell what it is. She gripped Dragontooth in her hand, the large blade shining the light from the moon onto the ground before her. Caelum was asleep in the hotel room, Rose couldn't bear to bring him out into this weather. There was something out there for her, and her alone. Suddenly, she heard something.

Saying nothing, Rose swung about and looked towards whatever came her way.

What rose had heard was a ruffle of feathers. Perched atop the ledge of the city's cathedral crouched a strange-looking figure wreathed in a pair of black dove's wings. The figure looked down on the girl, the two large blades on his back looming ominously behind him like an 18-wheeler behind a Mini.

"what are you doing out so late, m'lady?" the figure asked in a soft rasp. "The whole city is asleep, so why aren't you?"
