one of the things that bugs me the most is stupid people in slasher movies, i mean like in freddy vs. jason theres this one black chick that stands at a dock right in front of freddy and just stands there and insults fredy and jason, and when one of them gets angrey she just stands there and lets them kill her, or at the start of the movie theres a chick skinny dipping in a lake and her friend wanders off and doesent come back, then she desides ok i think i am going to into the dark big forest and look for my friend in the nude, well you can guess it she meets up with jason and all she does is stand there screaming while he choppes off her head......... god it just ticks me right off how stupid these peeople can be, if i saw some one with a huge bloody knife i would get the hell out of there

first off the girl in the beginning was jason`s dream, so naturally it would be an easy kill.... as for the black girl... well, look at her... even in the movie she was a total retard. She had it comming.

What you should be asking yourself is; why all these stupid warning labels? Seriously, dont you know that if there is a warnign label on an item..... that some idiot has actually done it. Come on, how stupid do u need to be to know not to use a blow dryer while in the water???? I mean, what, is this how they are.....(sarcastically) Well im done washing my hair and i need to dry it b4 it gets all frizzy... ill just plug this in here while i soak in the tub... then oh, ill set in down here.... ten ZAP!
I think we should take all warning labels off products; if you are that stupid to need a warning label, then u should die. The world is overpopulated and that would be a nice easy control for it. Do we really need stupid people breeeding? I dont think so. I can understand labels for kids but some warning are so retarded. Next you`ll see warning labels on books "warning turning the pages can cause paper cuts" ....... im sry im just one of those people who think censorship and warning labels are the most stupid thing ever made. You dont want to get me talking about censorship.... hehe

Ooh or heres one for you! Some idiot tried to sue McDonalds because they burned their hand with their coffee...and that whole "Sue the toy company because my daughter jammed her finger and her hair in the cabbage patch dolls mouth." I think alot of these people just want money.

@jadestone: lol warning labels on books...thats a good one. Just wait we might see that one day.

Maybe that's why all these slasher films are set in America eh?

Nah, only joking. I think it may be because people as a whole feel a certain sick sense of pleasure when stupid people screw up, look at all these programmes like you've been framed and candid camera. Face it, if these kids were smart and did everything as they were supposed and had still been killed the audience would feel cheated and not enjoy it as much

Yeah slasher films do tend to have idiots. Like in Jason X where the girl went outside of the holding bay when she knew Jason was outside waitinf for her. Moron...

Ok, I'm just a little confused about the goal of this debate.. is it just to talk about how stupid people are or to debate whether they're stupid?

Well just for the sake of the debate actually going somewhere, I'll be on the minority side. Yah, you might look at 'em and yell "go you stupid lady! Run, or... something!"; but look.. honestly, what would you do? I'm pretty sure most of us would run or something, but just think about the fact that when people are so overwhelmed by an emotion (fear, love, anger, ect.) they just dont think.

Personally, I find everything that happens in a slasher movie corny and stupid o.o;

The people in the movies may seem stupid but thats the way it is. The movie needs a story, and if its a horror movie somebody has to die. Its easier for the nice monster person to kill people if they don't move. See how nice that is for the hard working murderers :D

Slasher flicks always have idiots. If you watch the first few Friday the 13th's they all die quick deaths. The characters (most of them anyways) were too dumb to fight back or run.

Then they smartened up. In part 6 the characters began to run and hide. Jason became smarter and found them and managed to give them long and painful deaths.

No matter what a person does in a horror flick they're dead. Even if they live one movie they will eventually die. Take the Nightmare Series... Dream Warriors (part 3) in particular.

Kristen, Nancy, Taryn, Kincaid, Joey, and Will went into their dreams to fight off Freddy Kreuger. Freddy killed off Taryn and Will during the fight and later got Nancy who was from part 1. She survived part 1 but he came back and got her :P

In part 4 Kristen, Joey, and Kincaid are recurring characters. We meet a new group of kids Kristen is friends with... Dan, Sheila, Debbie, Alice, and Rick.

Freddy comes back and kills off Kristen, Joey and Kincaid. He got them in the end anyways. So our focus on this movie is the new group who will also try to defeat Freddy (In the end of the Nightmare Movies they always succeed but the next installment they're killed off).

Then we get part 5 with Alice and Dan (part 4's survivors) returning... Dan dies.

See, no matter what everyone dies in these movies.

Whether you're smart or not.

I've always been of the opinion that if you keep paying to see bad movies, directors will have no reason to make them better quality. This is why I download most of the mediocre movies, so as not to support them. Movie theaters and rentals are way too expensive now anyway. I will only pay to see one if it is something really special.

This all depends on your definition of mediocre though...I know Ive seen a number of, what other people may call, mediocre movies that I thought were excellent...I guess it depends on what people percieve as mediocre...

Having said that though, there are alot of movies that really could do with some serious work...Alot of these movies have been hyped up with a big star or director or something that makes them stand out...

true likie the Evil Dead..... it only was a B-Horror movie with a budget of like $100,000, but to many people, like me, it was one of the best horror movies ever made.

Plus i loved the movie Ravenous... but how many people has ever heard of it???? not many... it is one of thoughs few intellegent horror movies...

It's impossible to objectively measure the quality of a movie, of course. The Internet Movie Database top 250 list put me in the right direction to find many good and important movies to watch. Movies that have won awards are probably worth checking out. Movies that you see referenced often in other media and aspects of our culture are likely worth seeing to be culturally literate and just know what other people are talking about, if nothing else. In general, I take movie suggestions from people whom I think are intelligent, seem to know what they are talking about in relation to movies, or have recommended good quality movies to me in the past. I would never go see a movie just because it's playing. And if somebody has said that they liked a movie I really thought was terrible (Garden State, I Heart Huckabees, Maxtrix Reloaded, etc.), I'll be much less likely to trust them on other titles.

I'm still waiting to see the third Matrix movie until the writers send me a written apology for the awful quality of the second one, along with a full refund of my ticket price. It could happen.
