Title: AT Art Challenge
Description: bwarrrrrrrrrrrr
Hugh Laurie - January 19, 2005 08:12 AM (GMT)
A CONTEST you fools!
I was thinking since the AT Awards are over, I might start up a contest of my own. An
Art contest, that is. It involves signature banners or banners in general. It won't be your typical sig contest though. It'll have a bit of a twist hence, the word
challenge....
I decided to have 2-3 categories for it to make it more interesting. In one category, I shall provide an image or two that a participant will have to use in the banner he/she will be making. It can be blended or whatever.
The second will be a banner of your choice. You can use whatever image you like just as long as you show your mad skillz. xD
The third... is tentative since I'm not sure yet. I'm thinking since people are into animated ones, why not, eh? So, this category will be for animated banner.

Rules:
• The banners have to be 500x120 pixels. You cannot exceed or go below this standard size.
• Submissions are done secretly and directed to me. :P Which simply means, you cannot/must not tell anyone what you'll be submitting. This way, there won't be any popularity contest involved. If I learn that this rule isn't followed seeing as we're friends here now... you shall be disqualified.
• After sufficient entries have been submitted, there will be voting done which I shall post later on. Possibly after 2 weeks.
The best part is ANYONE can join. No artistic skills necessary so you can join for fun HOWEVER, the outcome will depend on how people will like your entries. Serious voting but great fun on the part of the contestants.
So, what do you say? Any go on this? I think it would be fun especially since there are many artists/aspring artists here. Questions? Suggestions? Reply!
And to be fair, I won't be joining so um...

Won't that be fun? Say GO, yo.

Hmmm...as I missed the AT Banner contest through an absence...I believe this is a chance for me to participate in something along the same lines...some questions though...
1) Can we enter a seperate image for all 3? EG. One for the image, one for the animated and one other one? Gives us a better chance of winning ya...plus, there are more entries, which means more choice, which means more artistic talent on display!
2) If for some reason you cant supply a banner for 2 of the categories, but still want to do more than 1 banner, can we make more than 1 for a category? Providing that the multiple banner thing is allowed in the first place...
Other than that, I reckon it is a great idea, and if my suggestions are taken on board, you shall see 3 banners from me... ;)
BTW, is there any particular text we need to put on them? Or do we not put any on? Or what?

Great feedback Mr. NEO man. The rules I've placed above are still tentative and are open to changes. Since I can't edit the post, I'll just add the ones I think about in my replies.
And to answer your questions. Yes you can use separate images but only for the second and third category and they don't have to be the same for each category either. The 1st category, as I've said, will have a special image I shall provide which of course you can't use except for that specific category.
I've added some new rules which answers your second question.
Added rules:
1. Yes, you can submit more than one entry per category. About 3-4 maximum. ;)
2. You can also submit to 1 or all of the categories with numerous entries if you like.
3. But it doesn't mean if you did not submit for one of the categories, you can you get to submit more than 4 on another category. You cannot. The 3-4 maximum limit stands.
The more the merrier but keep these rules in mind plz. Oh and I need to give names for the categories because category every goddamn second is frustrating me. xP
I NEED MORE FEEDBACK!!! Admin confirmation and whatnot. >_<

I'll enter in the second catagory. This could serve as a learning tool ^^

It would be fun. See some of the up and comeing artist on AT. Plus it gives me a chance to challenge myself in this area. So I for one say go for it.
I wish you all luck and to have fun.(If it actually happens)

Ooh this sounds fun. Although I won't be able to participate but I'll be looking forward to the results.

hmmm, i think ill join all three.... its been awhile since ive actually tried to make a good gfx, might as well get back into it, also i have a question about #3.. is there a size restriction? i know the dimensions but i mean the size of the file restriction.
Im still not 100% clear on #1, u give us two pics we need to interwine in our gfx, but from ur last post i got the feeling we can only use your pics, no others ( i mean more than the 2 u are supplying)...
i was wondering if we could add more pics to your pics or if we could manipulate the pics u give us.
Also are there any file size restrictions for any cat? this imakes a big difference on the quality and design of the gfx.
thanks

Feedback, yay! No admin confirmation anywhere though *PMs Kie* I need a go from management. :P As soon as I get Kie or whoever in charge to tell me it's ok, I'll put this up ASAP. Thanks, yo.
Anyway, yes I have a very confusing way of explaining things!!xD Btw, I'm sorry I forgot to consider the other stuff too but thanks for reminding me, Jade!!!:D
And to answer your questions....
There won't be any file size restrictions whatsoever in any category. You can make the animations as elaborate as you want but not too big I hope. After all, LESS is always MORE, yes? We're looking into originality here. So, nothing bigger than 300KB at least I guess... (or is that too much?) Well, just don't make it too big that you'll kill my dial-up. *nods*
Here's my take on those images again.
Only category 1 will have provided images that shall be manipulated. You can't use any other image except the ones provided for that category either. Backgrounds, however, are acceptable.
In the second and third category, you may use whatever image you want except the ones I provided for the first one. The images you used for that image may also not be exactly the same. This category is open to anything as long as it's not obscene.
I'm trying to think of good category names and finalizing all the rules so if you have any other suggestions/questions, say it now.

Why do you need admin confirmation on a contest? Shay doesn't ask us when she does AT awards, nor does Katie with the banner contest. The message here is do what you want, cause everyone else does, but thanks for making us admins feel that little bit more special :D
But I did ask! I got Jilly's go ahead for the Banner Contest ^^
Kiefer Sutherland - January 21, 2005 03:24 PM (GMT)
hmmm...can I get those images soon...cause I plan on getting em in early due to school and stuff...so yeah...also, 300kb is not nearly going to be enough for a good animated sig...even a 400x100 done properly makes 500kb without breaking a sweat...so I think it would be wise to upgrade your size limit for that...

Uh, because it's the right thing to do. And if you just let people do whatever the hell they want, there will be chaos. (Chaos, not the member.) Thank you very much.
I'll post everything in a new thread in Graphics showcase, don't worry. ;)
