Title: I Will Always Love You

Aliasgirl47 - April 15, 2003 02:39 AM (GMT)
This is my new fanfic. Don't get worried though because I am not quitting Caught In A Dream. This was just an idea I got when I was writing that one and it didn't fit into the storyline. This story takes place after the destruction of SD-6, but before the kiss. I do not own any of these characters. They are owned by JJ, the real genius. And the song is I Will Always Love You, by Whitney Houston. the lyrics are in italics. So here it is! Enjoy!

Sydney walked into the warehouse feeling worried and relieved all at the same time. SD-6 was gone, and her life had reached a new plateau. A new beginning. She was finally free.

Vaughn was already waiting for her. His face carried the same relieved expression. He new that Sydney had something to tell him, but he had no idea what.

"Hey," she said, half smiling, half frowning.

"Hey," he replied, knowing that there was something wrong.

"I have something to tell you," Sydney said.

"And I have something to tell you," he said.

"Well, you go first," she said.

"No, you," he said.

"Ok, well, now that SD-6 is gone, I really don't have much to stay here for and Francie decided to move to New York City to open a second restaurant and I decided to go with her," she said.

"That's great," said Vaughn, trying to sound encouraging.

"So, what was your news?" she asked.

"Um, nothing," he said as he looked down at his feet.

"Oh," she said, somewhat disappointed. "Well, if there's nothing else, I have to go back. My plane leaves at 7 tomorrow morning."

Sydney stepped forward and they exchanged a hug. Then, Sydney turned and walked towards the door.

"Syd, wait," said Vaughn.

She stopped abruptly and turned around. "Yes?" she said.

"I-I'm just going to miss you, that's all," Vaughn stammered out.

"I'll miss you, too. Bye," she said.

"Bye," said Vaughn reluctantly.

Sydney turned around and this time, she left.

If I should stay

I would only be in your way

So I'll go

But I know

I'll think of you each step of the way

Vaughn reluctantly left, relizing that he had just let the love of his life walk out the door.

And I will always love you

Sydney got on the plane the next morning, knowing that Vaughn was the only reason why she might have stayed. And he didn't need her because he had Alice. Sydney could never have him. All she could have were the memories.

Bittersweet memories

That is all I'm taking with me

So goodbye

Please don't cry

We both know I'm not what you need

And I will always love you

Vaughn woke up in his bed. The rain was pounding on the rooftop. He looked over at the clock. 7:45. Sydney was on her way to New York and out of his life forever. He only wished that he could've told her how he felt.

I hope life treats you kind

And I hope you have all you dreamed of

And I wish you joy and happiness

But above all this I wish you love

And I will always love you

Two days later Sydney was in New York. She and Francie were in the apartment. Francie had stepped out to look at a new building for the restaurant. Sydney had to bring an empty box outside to the trash.

She stepped outside. It was mid afternoon, but it was getting dark like it was about to rain. Sydney looked up and had to catch her breath because Vaughn was standing across from her, staring at her.

"Vaughn," she said. "What are you doing here?"

"I had to come and tell you what I was going to tell you in the warehouse that day," he said.

"What is it?" she asked.

"Sydney, when I let you walk out that door, I made the biggest mistake of my life. And I wanted to tell you that I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. And I know this is kind of sudden, but will you marry me?"

"Yes," she said in a very audible whisper.

Tears were streaming down her cheeks, but neither noticed because it had started to rain. It poured and they were soaked but neither cared.

"I love you, Sydney," said Vaughn.

"I love you,...Michael," said Sydney.

"I like it when you call me Michael," he said.

"I thought you would," she said.

And then they kissed in the middle of the street in New York City in the pouring rain. And it didn't matter who was there to see them.

And I will always love you

I will always love you

I will always love you

I will always love you

You, darling I love you

I will always

I will always love you
