Title: Off Contract

When a player becomes off contract or he is released by his club and goes into the bidding pool does the bidding start at his current salary or does it go back to 75k??

Interesting question. It's probably more plausible that he starts at 75,000 (since he may have decreased in value since he was last signed).

What does everyone else think?

$75k

Example... Daniel Carter was signed for 1.5mil... if he was released, who in their right mind would pay that? I think after his contract finished, he'd be happy to accept whatever comes his way... not looking for another 1.5 mil tag

Yeah, cos a player coaches want will find his own level in the bidding.

doesn't really matter does it, just make it that people can bid for daniel carter for under 1.5 million if they wanted to.

i thought i was paying that guy a well earned 1.8 million, poor guy

i agree with the 75k, but one point i have not been able to validate which im sure i read it that the team who last had that player gets last chance to match the highest offer and retain that player:::is this correct? for example. daniel carter has been bidded on at 1.3million in contracts - as adelaide is his former team we just have to match that offer to keep him?

if i recall correctly, there is an hour after contract bidding where just the old team can decide to match the highest bid to retain???
