Title: Bob Fulton Cup Semi Final Results

chriswalkerbush - January 27, 2006 01:38 PM (GMT)
The final for this year's Bob Fulton Cup has been decided, and the fans have been guaranteed a cracking clash between two of the competition's form teams after all four semi finalists have carried their tournament form over into the regular season.

The Gold Coast Crusade have proven too strong in the second half of their all Queensland semi final against Division Two giants, North Queensland. The two sides traded blows in a tense first half, but even without Andrew Johns and Danny Buderus, the Crusade still packed too much punch. Irish winger Tommy O'Reilly provided a superb captain's knock, compensating for the loss of two of the world's finest players with a brilliant showing. For North Queensland the return of Kris Radlinski threatened to cause a boil-over, but even the former representative fullback (and Crusader) couldn't lift his side to an unlikely victory.
Gold Coast: Gordon D'Arcy, Tommy O'Reilly, Kevin Sinfield 2, and Karl Pratt. Sinfield 4/6
North Queensland: Todd Byrne and Mark McLinden. Kirchner 3/3
HT Score: Gold Coast 10-8
Penalties: Gold Coast 15-7
Completion Rates: Gold Coast 65% North Queensland 63%
Possession: Gold Coast 59%
PoM Points: Tommy O'Reilly 3, Kevin Sinfield 2, and Gordon D'Arcy 1.

The semi final between Wollongong and the Northern Cannons has gone right down to the wire, the two sides proving inseparable after eighty minutes of regular play. The Destructors looked the better side in the first half, but a late Paul Wellens try got the visiting side to within just two points of Wollongong. A Trent Pariah penalty in the 79th minute forced the game into extra time, and in the first period of ten minutes it was a try apiece. An early penalty in the second 'half' of penalty time saw Wollongong edge ahead, before inspirational forward Robbie Kearns muscled his way over to put it beyond doubt. Wollongong would face Gold Coast in the final after scoring a 36-28 win in extra time.
Wollongong: Luke Covell, Josh Valentine 3, Robbie Kearns, and Shaun Berrigan. Hodgson 6/9
Northern: Brett Dallas, Ashton Simms, Paul Wellens, and Michael DeVere. Pariah 6/6
HT Score: Wollongong 14-8
Penalties: Wollongong 7-5
Completion Rates: Wollongong 60% Northern 58%
Possession: Wollongong 51%
PoM Points: Josh Valentine 3, Richie Mathers 2, and Michael De Vere 1.
